Willkommen to a thriving city full of adventure. With vivid culture and the world’s largest Oktoberfest outside of Munich, Kitchener-Waterloo sure knows how to throw a party.
From schnitzel to oompahpah music to the vibrant Oktoberfest celebration itself, the German influence here can be seen everywhere. In fact, the city was initially named the Town of Berlin from 1854 until 1912 and later the City of Berlin from 1912 to 1916.
Thousands of people, young and old, visit the city each year to celebrate Bavarian-style at Oktoberfest. Here, visitors can sample great foods and beers and watch performances by buskers and professional entertainers. And don’t forget to take the kids to one of the greatest Thanksgiving Day parades in Canada.
Visitors with a taste for the finer things in life will also enjoy the region's diversions for the mind, heart and soul. Choose from a wide array of art galleries that defy the ordinary. Or, lift your spirits with a performance by the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony or Grand Philharmonic Choir. Then take in a play at a local theatre, where productions include everything from local to world-renowned acts and shows.
For excellent shopping and some great bargains, check out the outlet malls, boutiques, markets and antique shops here. Lovingly referred to as simply the "K-W", Kitchener-Waterloo offers abundant adventures and exciting nightlife every day of the week.
Kitchener-Waterloo is a fantastic destination for:
Winters in the Kitchener-Waterloo region are wonderful. That is, wonderfully short. The winter weather typically lasts from December until the middle of March and temperatures don't usually drop below -10 C. Long, warm summers (think mid-20s C) and nearly 140 frost-free days on average each year also make this city a great place to visit in any season. In the K-W, as it's affectionately called, you can pack light and simply dress for the forecast.
