Nassau,
Bahamas

Nassau
Nassau.

Nassau is the capital city of the Bahamas, situated on the island of New Providence, with a population of about 200,000. There are over 700 islands and 2,000 outcrops, but only 30 of them are populated. The average temperature from November to April is between 22 and 28 degrees Celsius. Enjoy the nightlife with cabaret shows, magic acts, or a moonlight dinner cruise.

Take a short trip to one of the other islands, each has its own unique personality and reason to visit. Explore the Out Islands: sail into 30 marinas on the Abacos Islands, dive in the 6,000 ft (1,828m) Tongue of the Ocean trench; fish for the biggest and best marlin and tuna in Hemingway's haunts off Bimini; surf the giant waves of Eleuthera or enjoy the pink sand beaches of Cable Beach, Cabbage Beach or Paradise Beach, and many, many more. Or visit Blue Lagoon Island where you can meet the dolphins at Dolphin Encounter.

If you enjoy shopping, Bay Street is a must with its mélange of shops, or barter for handicrafts and souvenirs at the Straw Market, where local merchants sell everything from hats and baskets to carvings, beads and rush mats.

The local currency is the Bahamian dollar which is par to the U.S. dollar. Nassau International Airport is located 10 miles from the city, with local buses and taxis available, both regulated and unregulated. Be sure to check out the costs before you ride! One of the best ways to see the island is to rent a car.
