Hewanorra Airport is only 72km south of Castries and a short distance from other major towns on the island. You are never too far away from any of the great activities St. Lucia has to offer, with many quick and easy ways to access the things you have planned for your holiday.
Take a helicopter tour and see the lush vistas of Soufriere Volcano or the tranquil National Rainforest. Try your hand at windsurfing around Cas en Bas and Vieux Fort or sail at Rodney Bay and Marigot Bay; you won’t want to miss the chance to stop in at quaint fishing villages along the way for local sea fare or drop anchor for a rest in one of the secret coves.
Interested in scuba diving or snorkeling? Gorgeous reef at Anse Cochon and Anse Chastanet are just two of the spectacular areas where beginners or intermediate divers consider an extraordinary treat. Most hotels as well as independent dive centers offer equipment rental and lessons. Take a short dive to test the waters or see the underwater world of tropical sea life on a night dive.
Families will really enjoy the one-of-a-kind experiences of exotic wildlife museums, giant turtle watching and nature hikes.

Castries has the best shopping choices on the island, though you can find local wares in just about any town or village. Every treasure hunter can find terrific souvenirs from luxury goods at the Pointe Seraphine; a harbourfront complex just walking distance from Castries, to the 100 year old market in Castries where you’ll find crafts and woven treasures or La Place Carenage Shopping Mall to indulge in great retail therapy.
Music and dance are abundant on St. Lucia. Enjoy local Shak Shak bands, Steel Pan bands, singers and limbo dancing in hotels, restaurants and in the street. Gros Islet has a weekly “jump-up”; a street party which has been known to go until the early hours of the morning. Be sure to visit Rodney Bay Village for a variety of lively nightclubs.
For a quieter pace, try a sunset cruise! Look for one at any marina near your hotel or resort for options. Some offer meals and beverages, so you can make a complete evening of your cruise.

Before you leave home though, be sure to have the required documents and fees all in order:
- Passport
- Birth Certificate
- Proof of Absolute, if one of the parties is divorced.
- A Death Certificate for the former spouse, in the case of a widow/widower.
- A Deed Pool, if a name has been changed.
- Evidence of parental consent, in the form of a notarized sworn affidavit, if one of the parties is under the age of 18.
An application to be married in St. Lucia must be made by a local solicitor to the Attorney General, who will issue a marriage license after a two-day residency period. It takes two business days to process the application.
Notarial Fees & Marriage License - EC$335.00 if you are there 7 days before marriage. If you are there less then 7 days the fee for the Marriage License will be EC$540.00.
Registrar Fees - EC$100.00
Marriage Certificate - EC$8.00
Note: It is possible to be married on the fifth day after arriving in St. Lucia, if the above procedures are followed. Church weddings can be arranged for most denominations in advance
Take in one of the many lively and entertaining events on St. Lucia, which happen year round. St. Lucians are proud of their heritage and welcome visitors to take part in their celebrations. You can choose from all kinds of festivals but some of the largest and most colourful annual events are:

- The St. Lucia Jazz Festival each May;
- St. Lucia Carnival each June and July;
- Kalalu Music Festival in December.
Cricket is a national obsession on St. Lucia. The National Cricket Ground at Beausejour plays host to may test match gamers and or one day International matches. Be prepared for the locals to take the day off and almost everything will come to a standstill while St. Lucians watch their favourite sport.
St. Lucia’s history colours the culture and traditions of the island, with the British contributing their language, education, legal and political structures to the Amerindian people who were the first inhabitants. The French added their creative influences which is evident by the music and dance styles, notably the Quadrille folk dance and the Creole patois language spoken by some locals.
The official language of St. Lucia is English.
The local currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar; however U.S dollars are widely accepted throughout the island.
Driving on St. Lucia is the British style; that is driving on the left hand side. Car rental agencies are available in most towns and in most resorts.
Travel around the island with tour operators who offer transport in a variety of forms such as helicopters, boats or buses. Taxis are also available to visitors; you can find one at any taxi stand or by telephone. Minibuses can be sired for groups of up to 10 passengers.
Visitors to St. Lucia will require the following documents for entry and departure of the island:
- A valid passport is required for any visitor who stays less than 6 months. Visas are not required for citizens of the U.S or Commonwealth countries.
- Visitors who are nationals of the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States, may enter Saint Lucia without passports, provided:
- They are in possession of adequate proof of Citizenship/Nationality Identity. A photo ID should accompany either of the above-named documents;
- They are in possession of a valid return ticket or a ticket to an onward destination;
Their stay in Saint Lucia does not exceed six months.
