Upgrade offer terms and conditions
By making an upgrade offer, you confirm that you agree to these terms and conditions.
Last updated on October 28, 2021
Your upgrade offer
You may submit an offer to travel in a higher cabin, up until 75 hours prior to your scheduled WestJet flight departure. Once submitted, your upgrade offer may be accepted by WestJet at any date prior to the flight departure. The value of your request is the additional amount you are willing to pay for the upgrade inclusive of all taxes and fees and is in addition to the amount you paid to purchase your original fare. Your nominated form of payment will only be charged if your offer is successful.
The upgrade offer amount submitted is per guest for all guests on the booking. It is not possible to upgrade some guests and not others.
Upgrade offers are valid for flights that are operated by WestJet only. Upgrade offers are not available for travel on any other carrier including codeshare carriers and our alliance carrier partners.
Accepted upgrade offers are non-refundable, non-transferable and only valid on the flight and date shown.
Changing or cancelling your upgrade offer
You may make changes to or cancel your upgrade offer, provided your offer has not yet been accepted and that this is done at least 75 hours before your scheduled flight departure. In the event your offer is accepted, you will not be able to cancel the offer or be eligible for a refund (unless your situation meets the criteria for refunds - see the "Fare rules" section below).
Accepting your upgrade offer
We reserve the right to decide whether or not to accept your upgrade offer at our sole discretion. The criteria that we use for assessing and considering offers may include (but is not limited to):
The value of your offer
- The original fare of your original booking
- Your WestJet Rewards tier status
- The number of seats available in the available cabin
- The number of guests on your original booking
We will consider and decide whether to accept your upgrade offer no later than approximately 72 hours before your scheduled flight departure.
If at this point your offer has not been successful, you will receive a notification via email of your unsuccessful upgrade. You will keep your original ticket and not be charged the upgrade offer amount submitted.
If we accept your upgrade offer, we will charge the full amount of your upgrade offer to your selected method of payment.
Selecting your seat after your upgrade offer has been accepted
Once your upgrade is confirmed, you will be able to select your seat at time of check-in, 24 hours prior to departure. We cannot guarantee that adjacent seats will be available.
Family seating
If you are travelling with a child and will require family seating, and you place an offer that is accepted, we are unable to ensure that there will be an adjacent seat for you to sit with your child. Learn about family seating
Upgrade offers cannot be made in certain circumstances
Unfortunately, we cannot accept upgrade offers in the following circumstances:
- If you are booked on an UltraBasic fare
- If an unaccompanied minor will be travelling
- If you are booked on a Codeshare flight or another airlines ticket
Baggage allowance
If your Premium upgrade offer is accepted, you will be entitled to the same baggage allowance of your original booking fare.
If your Business upgrade offer is accepted, you will be entitled to a maximum of 2 checked bags. Overweight, excess and oversized fees may apply.
Fare rules
If your upgrade offer is accepted, the fare rules that apply to your original ticket will remain in effect and shall apply to your upgraded flight. This includes any rules relating to changes or cancellations. Upgrade fees paid do not count towards your qualifying spend to achieve WestJet Rewards tier status.
Once your upgrade offer has been accepted, we will only refund your upgrade payment in the following limited circumstances:
If your flight was involuntarily re-scheduled and we were not able to accommodate your upgrade on your re-scheduled flight.
If your flight was involuntarily cancelled and you chose not to re-book your flight.
We will not refund, credit or exchange your upgrade payment in any other circumstance including voluntary flight changes, cancellations and same day flight changes.
WestJet reserves the right not to refund if you elect not to proceed with your upgrade once confirmed - for example, if you change your mind about purchasing the upgrade.
Privacy and Data Use

The data will be used at an aggregate level and will never identify the bidder or their bid history personally. If you have questions regarding the use and collection of data in relation to the Plusgrade program, please forward your inquiry to privacy@westjet.com
