Abbotsford is British Columbia's fifth-largest city and one of many beautiful places to visit in Western Canada. Nestled in the heart of the stunning Fraser Valley, nature lovers and urbanites will both enjoy this little “city in the country.” Coastal air tours, gold panning in the Fraser River, incredible spring rainbow trout fishing and mountain bike trips on Sumas Mountain are just some of the popular attractions waiting for you.
Ease into relaxation with ample opportunities for year-round golf, visits to historic sites and evenings out taking in performances by the local arts community. The region is also home to dozens of parks, perfect for biking, rollerblading, walking, skiing, snowshoeing and tobogganing. It’s all here in Abbotsford.
Those who love spending time outdoors will also love taking a day to explore Matsqui Trail Regional Park. Go hiking, fishing and even camping. The more adventurous can take to the skies in a tandem parachute jump for a unique perspective of the stunning valley below.
Then there’s the airshow. The most famous event in the Fraser Valley, the Abbotsford International Airshow is held annually during the second weekend in August. The show attracts visitors from all over the world who watch in awe as Canadian and U.S. military aircraft perform maneuvers in the sky above.
For those looking to make the trip to Vancouver, Abbotsford is conveniently located just a short drive away. The Abbotsford International Airport offers a less crowded alternative for guests travelling to and from the Greater Vancouver Area. And with the U.S. border only a short drive away, Abbotsford is also a gateway to Washington State, offering outlet shopping in Bellingham, sightseeing in Seattle and countless outdoor activities.
Winters in Abbotsford are a lot like falls in other parts of the country. With mild temperatures (2.5 C on average) and most snowfall caught by the bordering mountains, Abbotsford is the ideal winter getaway for those who want a touch of Canadian winter with a solid dose of moderate climate.
Summers in Abbotsford are warm (in fact, warmer than Vancouver) with average temperatures in the low 20s C.
But Abbotsford does receive its fair share of precipitation. On average, the city gets 1,573 mm of rain and snow annually. But hey, you can’t win them all. Bring a rain jacket.
