What's for dinner?
tparry86 (Salt Lake City, Utah) on Mar 18, 2025
What's for dinner is what I wanted to know before I vacationed here and did all-inclusive. All meals are buffet style except poolside. Breakfast: eggs or omelets made to order, pancakes, french toast,... refried beans. One morning they had tacos as an option. Bacon anf sausage is available. Lots of fresh fruit, including papaya, honeydew, cantalope, watermelon, and fresh pineapple. With cottage cheese, yogurts, and hard boiled eggs available to get your protein in. Drinks were Mexican hot chocolate or Mexican coffee with 2 juice options that rotated daily. Breads: bagels, Mexican pasteries, and toast, and cereal with milk. Hot cereal: creamy oatmeal with toppings to add like coconut, granola, and dried fruiy. Lunch starts at 1300 for the restaurant or 1200 for poolside. If you are hungry go to the buffet. Poolside can take an hour. The buffet had cold cuts and sandwich fixings plus a hot dish with 2 meats or pasta. There is a salad bar with fixings, fresh fruit, and Mexican dessert cakes. One day they had fresh, grilled tuna! Poolside had hamburgers, nachos, tacos, hot dogs, chicken or club sandwich (no pizza). They do have ice cream which tastes like I get in the states. Dinner: Chicken with sweet and sour sauce over rice was my favorite. The meat cut off the long skewers (don't know the name) and put on tacos was so good! Fried fish was decent and I don't usually like fish. There is always refried beans, at every meal. Dinner has a variety of cooked vegetables, salads on the bar, fruit, bread, and Mexican cakes. Believe it or not, you can even eat coco puffs or fruit loops for dinner!
All the downsides are worth the pool and the beach and location!

I will admit that if I had written this review in the first two days, it would not have been 4 stars! this place does grow on you even if you’re not impressed at the beginning. Lets start with the fact... that “you get what you pay for”. We were looking for a less expensive place as this was a last minute trip. The pictures of the pool and the beach sold me. For $153 a night in high season, or at least close to high season, it was well worth it. Check-in was very easy, but when I went to speak to the concierge, I was immediately getting the pressure to go see some other hotel in Cabo that she also works at and go through a “presentation” for a free massage and a free breakfast. She was a little pushy about it, but I put my foot down. The beds were terribly uncomfortable, and the pillows were so bad, even though we requested three more -they were just as bad - I actually went to Walmart and bought our own pillows. I had read a lot of reviews warning about the condition, and that it was definitely an older resort and that’s true. I did not find the rooms all that dated, BUT the fact that there were no electrical outlets anywhere near the beds was really a difficult thing for us. We both work from our phones and it would’ve made like much easier if we could’ve plugged in our phones next to the beds. Worse than that is the Wi-Fi connection. Lord, it’s horrible. It’s also complicated, and when you actually possibly figure it out, the connection is terrible. So IF YOU NEED TO RELY ON AN INTERNET CONNECTION, DO NOT STAY HERE. Immediately upon entering our room, we could smell a horrible sewage smell from the bathroom. I called right away and asked to be moved and they told me that someone would come up to “fix it“. I had no faith that it could be fixed, but within 10 minutes our bathroom smelled like a chlorine pool. I don’t know what they did, but it lasted the whole six nights, and why would they not do that in every bathroom BEFORE guests arrive, if they smell like sewers????? I believe that you have the option to do all inclusive where you go to their restaurant. We did not do that thank God because the only option was a buffet. It was disappointing to me that there was no regular restaurant to even order food out from, but we ate out every meal anyway so that wasn’t a big deal - but before warned that the only option is a buffet. (there was a taco bar at the beach during the day and my daughter had it one day and said it was not good.) NOW the good stuff. The staff were all truly very, very sweet. From the housekeepers to the pool attendants, everyone was always very kind and friendly. Even though the rooms were dated, I found them to be very very clean. It’s in a fabulous location. We didn’t want to stay right in crazy Cabo, so it’s only about a 20 to 30 minute drive into the main center of Cabo. The little town of San Jose is only about a 8 to 10 minute drive from the hotel. Town is wonderful and there are a ton of amazing restaurants surrounding the area. There’s a small more upscale part of town just about a five minute drive from the hotel and then the older town with the town Square and lots of art, etc. is about a 10 minute drive. The best part was the pool and the beach. There are very few resorts you’re going to find at this price, with a beautiful pool and a beautiful beach and chairs at the pool and Beach seem to always be available, which is very rare in resorts. We watched whales while we sat on the beach. We were able to have food and drink served to us from the little taco bar outside. It was very windy during part of our stay, but because of the location of this particular hotel, we were very comfortable. I had friends staying at Hard Rock for much more money, and they were very unhappy with how windy and cold. It was on their beach while I was warm and toasty!
