Very good stay, best of the 3 sandals on the island

This was our first Sandals and I don’t think will be the last. Our hunch was right that Halcyon is more boutique than the Grand and La Toc who have similar size beaches but way more guests. We went for th...e entry level room and were not disappointed- poolside balcony. It is very comfortable and has everything you need, including a daily refreshed minibar. Some of the more pricey rooms look into the gardens and have less privacy. Service- generally very good and the staff are very friendly and hospitable. Food- this is not fine dining but it is generally of a good standard. We ate plenty of fresh fruit and veg everyday. We usually also had a sushi appetiser at soy before the main meal and it was great. Our one tip would be to check out Kelly’s for breakfast rather than the bayside. We visited Gordon’s at the Grand - brilliant location and service, and La Toc restaurant which has an unfortunate dress code. The food aspired to be fine dining French and nearly was but the service let it down, all in all good though. Bars, drinks, wine- overflowing would be the best description. But good quality and the service is generally excellent. As a wine lover, I was uncertain how I’d get along with the Mondavi house wine all week but actually it was surprisingly drinkable and in abundant supply as was the decent fizz. All brand label drinks for cocktails, eg pina coladas. There is a wine list in a couple of restaurants from which to purchase wine but really no need to. Beach- lovely safe beach with beautifully warm water! A bit of seaweed in the water but they sweep it off the beaches daily. There are some beach vendors trying to sell trinkets and boat trips. They generally leave you alone if you say no! ( unlike the spa salespeople on the hotel grounds!!). Not the worst I’ve encountered. From a personal point of view, I would not go on one of these independent tours - I’m too risk averse! However we did the catamaran explorer tour via the sandals app and it was absolutely brilliant. 3 snorkelling stops - safe and worth getting in the water for. The crew on that trip were brilliant! Back at the beach - a variety of equipment to take out on the water and the staff are very helpful. Pools- main party pool with swim up bar but the real jewel of the three resorts is the lazy river pool which was near our room- possibly 100m long and very inviting. Sunloungers- given one of the main activities is lounging in the sun, these are very popular and are reserved by the butlers for their guests very early each day so you’ll either have to pay a load extra for a butler or get up very early! There are usually a handful throughout the day and dotted around though but will not be in prime positions. Evening entertainment- a bit of a laugh. I would rate this around a 4.2, it is very enjoyable and pretty good value for money.

Samani made our trip amazing. She brought laughter and was the life of the party since our first day. It was a beautiful resort and the staff was so friendly. Never went without anything. We will be coming... back and making sure samani is working when we do
