A Disney' Fans HONEST Review of the New Pixar Place Hotel!

Liz M on Jul 06, 2024

First - I am a huge Disney fan. I travel to the parks 2-3 times a year (Florida and California). I am a DVC member. I have stayed at nearly every hotel in WDW and both GCV and DL Hotel in DL. We were in CA for a conference and my adult daughter and I decided to add on a couple of days at Disney fairly last minute. We decided to try the new Pixar hotel. First- YES it is VERY overpriced. I paid $640 plus taxes per night for an ADA 2 queen premium view room (view of DCA). Is this a bit insane? Yes. I admit it is. We stayed 2 nights. We checked in around noon, left our bags with bell services (amazing service!) and went to Disneyland. We had checked in via mobile app and our room would be texted to us when ready. Initial reaction of the hotel is 'wow'! It is gorgeous, so fresh and new. Bing Bong was in the lobby when we arrived. Gorgeous big gift shop, coffee shop, Maple restaurant and staff were what you expect from Disney casting members (awesome!). We could feel the 'disney magic' right away. The big selling point of this resort is LOCATION. You have a private path across the street only for Pixar hotel guests that goes directly to the Grand Californian hotel and out to DTD/Disneyland or the option of going right into DCA and landing in the middle of the action. No walking all the way through DTD and fighting crowds at both security and in general. As an autistic person who can get sensory overload in crowds - this alone was worth the money I spent. I also use a wheelchair so trying to navigate heavy crowds in the narrow paths of DTD to get to the parks can really overstimulate me and cause anxiety. But honestly - you are paying for the location and the view. Sure - its a cute hotel - rooms are no bigger than any other hotel really. We stayed at the home2suites near Disney in January with free breakfast and a 1000sq ft family 2 bedroom suite for about $259/night and LOVED the hotel. One of the best hotels in Anaheim in my opinion. It included a huge breakfast! But again - it is not on a private path to the parks with a view of World of Color at night! So that is what you are paying $600+++ a night for. The pool is 'ok' but honestly just a rectangle pool smaller than the one at my condos where I live. Capacity said 45. Hot tub was nice and capacity 8. The waterslide is cute and fun. Lots of kids and adults using it. Good amount of loungers. Nice cabanas and day beds you can rent, but all empty as they are overpriced at about $450/5 hours for a cabana and $350/5 hours day bed. Lower the price to $250 for the cabana and $125/daybed and they would be full guaranteed. Seemed like such a waste to see them sitting there unused. Would rather see the cost lower and them being enjoyed. Never saw anyone in them in 3 days! They have done a nice job with the roof top. Games, nice pool bar with some foods/ice cream. Very fresh. The room was clean and brand new. It still smelled new. Lots of plugs and USB ports. We had floor 14 (hotel is 15 stories high) and our view was incredible. Channel 61 pipes in the WOC music. We could not see DL fireworks from our window, but could pipe in the music on the tv. We had an ADA roll in shower room and it was perfect. Even a nice area by the window that was large enough to put my ECV and plug it in. Beds were super comfy. Lots of pixar touches in the room we loved! Even the duvet cover had pixar balls embossed on it! Pillows were incredible! Room was quiet UNTIL 4am first night when the alarm started going off. My daughter turned it off but apparently only hit snooze and it went off again in 15 minutes. Frustrating that housekeeping had not caught this and ensured it was turned off. Then at 845am we started hearing construction above us. Saws, hammers, and SO MUCH NOISE. They are still building rooms and start early. We are NOT rope drop early risers. We are sleep in, go to parks around 11 and stay late people - so to say we were so tired that day was an understatement. They were also testing fire alarms while we were there. We heard and saw a lot of construction. When booking this hotel both Disneyland hotel and GCA hotel were on sale. DL was about $540 and GCA about $710. No sale on Pixar at all - and honestly if we are listening to construction at 845am -we should be paying LESS than rack rate of $640/nt. Also you are going to see a lot of black tarps in windows where they are working on rooms still. It is a bit of an eyesore when at the pool to look up at the hotel windows and see tons of what looks like black trash bags hanging on the windows. There is also no room service available at this hotel. Your only option is to get uber eats and meet them in the lobby. We love to order room service after a long day in the parks so we can change into comfy pjs and not have to leave the room if we don't feel like it. The Maple restaurant should be offering room service at a hotel that costs this kind of money. So final thoughts - if the hotel had been completely ready to go, paying $640/nt is still crazy but you are paying for location over anything else. This hotel is not as 'resort like' as the others. You can feel it was once a Holiday Inn with a massive makeover. I feel our room was worth $350-400/nt to be fair with construction. Other hotels in the area were $150-$275/night. After construction is done, I feel this hotel is worth $500/nt for the view/path. Would I stay here again? Honestly probably not. I would have rathered stay at the GCA or DL hotel for a more 'resort like' atmosphere when paying this kind of money for a room. We also had one very rude cast member experience around 10pm on July 2nd, an older woman at the front desk was very rude when we asked about something and just short with us. We wanted to know if the pool area had change rooms and showers and were asked 'what is wrong with using the one in your rooms?'. The reason we asked is we were going to be checking out on the 4th around 11am, but our flight did not leave until 9pm. We wanted to know if we had a spot to change/shower before heading to the airport after visiting the pool or parks. She was just so rude- but other than that we had a great experience with cast members! So take my review with a grain of salt - if you HAVE the money and want to experience it I say go for it, but if this is a budget stretch or treat for you - stay at one of the other hotels or even offsite. Just take a visit to the hotel and look around - everything 'special' to see is basically in the lobby!

Wonderful

While I will miss the Paradise Pier Hotel, there is no question its conversion to Pixar Place is a welcome upgrade. It feels like a brand new hotel. The lobby and rooms all have fun Pixar touches. It’s a pleasure to just walk around the hotel. At the time of our stay, they also had a fun Inside Out 2 exhibit on the second floor. Two things of note: First, I would be remiss not to mention that the Disney Castmembers here are especially wonderful. They are so helpful, pleasant, and go out of their way to make sure your stay is enjoyable. Second, for people seeking easier access to the parks away from the crowds, the Pixar Place Hotel has its own entrance to California Adventure that you can access if you are a hotel guest. You simply walk across the street to where the Grand Californian is and there is a gate that will take you to an entrance into the park. This is a much more pleasant and convenient way to get into the park. It is also nice being able to do this to get back into the park rather than walking through the entirety of Downtown Disney. I am looking forward to coming back--especially to check out the firework viewing area that they have.
