We’ll be back.

GMGREEK (Holton, Kansas) on Mar 21, 2025

We have been visiting Hotel Playa MAZATLAN!!!!! for 25 years. We had not been back however since 2019 for a variety of reasons. We decided this year that we would go back and we’re hoping that it would be ...as wonderful as it had been 10 years ago. We were pleased. Overall, we felt that the rooms and service were good. We only had the European plan so the only food we had at the hotel was the buffet breakfast. The fruit was fabulous and the omelettes were quick and tasty. We didn’t eat most of the other foods as they were More geared to the nationals. We loved our time on the beach, although the loud bands can be disruptive. They were not always. I was able to read three books in the nine days that we were there. All of my reading was on the beach. I was disappointed in the quality of the cocktails that were served on the beach. Because we were not all inclusive guests we paid for our drinks and we’re happy to do so, but they were not good and seemed as though they were not made with care or quality ingredients. I did tell the beach area server that the drinks were not good. We also did have some food service on the beach and we were happy with our chicken nachos and our tortilla soup. It’s nice to be able to order something on the beach like that if you need a snack. In the future, I would probably just order bottled beer and order to know the quality of what I will be getting. So many of the staff have been there for all of the years we have been going. They were so appreciative to have American and Canadian guests as they feel that our media discourage us from going to MAZATLAN!!!!!. We will go back. To hotel Playa MAZATLAN!!!!!

Great resort, bands on beach will ensure I don’t return

kcoonfer (Lethbridge, Canada) on Mar 15, 2025

The resort is beautiful, an authentic Mexican resort. Dated but has charm. The staff are all very attentive and friendly. Rooms do not have fridges however, for 100 pesos a day they will bring one to your... room. The food was very good! Keep in mind you’re not at home in Canada, for breakfast you won’t have your bacon, sausage, hash browns and toast. You will have made to order eggs and omelettes and the Mexican side dishes. This is a Mexican resort and the food is good. especially the specialty restaurants. The downside of staying at the resort is the public beach that is in front of the resort by 1pm everyday you have bands playing very loud music all at the same time. This will go on till past sunset! Very annoying if you want to have a peaceful afternoon at the beach - you won’t. This will make me not return to this resort.

Love hotel playa we stayed 12 days so in depth review

Food: I grew up going to this resort! I brought my kids back as I wanted to share the memories I had. It was nice they offer an all inclusive option (all the chunky monkeys) I really enjoyed the restaurant... food as it was good and great beer selections (Pacifico, corona, tecate) Georgini’s and Roberto’s were my favorite and I loved the sunset cocktail bar they set up on Tuesdays and Saturdays by the north tower. I also loved the coffee bar for the all inclusive guests. I went in the am and pm most nights! Sports bar was nice but didn’t spend a lot of time there. Entertainment: I liked the 2 shows we attended! The kids one was super fun. I wish there were more nightly shows. We stayed at the riu the last 2 years and appreciated the nightly kids and performance shows. The days we went to the pool were fabulous with the entertainment staff! They had darts ??, foam parties, balloon games, water polo, etc. to keep adults and kids happy all day. Enrique and his team were always great and helpful! Great variety of music both American and Mexican infused to keep everyone engaged. valleria and Rueben were awesome at the kids club. We went a couple times and the kids begged to go back. They did cupcake decorating, bingo, face painting, puzzles, etc. Beach: I love the beach but the only downfall is the bands that transcend around 1 everyday. There are multiple and that it’s too loud. I understand it is a public beach and I understand the hotel can’t do anything about that. I just wanted to make note of it as this will make us consider another location. I enjoyed they have servers on the beach for drinks as well! The trinket sellers wondered thru the chairs on the beach and some were pushy and didn’t appreciate that as much. One day security enforced them away, but other than that no one else. Pools: I loved the 2 warm pools (main and 1 in back by pirate ship) the new pool lagoon would have been great if it was warmer, but was too cold) loved to walk thru the caves and wonder in the area over there. Very pretty. From what I remember when I was a child/ younger adult there were moreAmericans and Canadians. This year there were more Mexicans and maybe catered to this? Everyone spoke pretty good English and staff in general super attentive and helpful. Was awesome to see some familiar faces (the guy arturo who makes the eggs, and the waiter who has been here 39 years and Henry the hat man. It was truly a walk down memory lane.

Year after year still love it.

Thomas094 (Ottawa, Canada) on Mar 03, 2025

Spent another last two weeks end of January here. This is visit number 9/10 here. Had a room wasn’t too happy with first night, was a little difficult to get another but as always the front desk staff cam...e through. Ended up in 408, great view. It’s wonderful to see the same staff we’ve come to know and repeat guests that we have gotten to know year after year. Some who have been coming for over 30 years. Guests are treated extremely well. The hotel is old. No question. And yes could use a little updating. They keep the place spotless. Always cleaning. The location in the golden zone makes it safe and fun to eat out, watch live music, shop. It’s not upscale. No fridges in the room. The buffet is ok The a la cartes are very good. The sports bar is modern and fun. Most pools are cold. Main pool heated. The beach is very nice. The sea is not the Caribbean. Banda can be annoying and sometimes entertaining. Spanish is the main language. Learn a bit before you go. Many Mexicans travel here for vacation. More Mexicans than Canadians and Americans. Which makes it great. The staff as I’ve mentioned over and over make this such a terrific place to be.
