Work environment

As a Cabin Crew member, you’ll ensure the safety and well-being of our guests while flying with us.  This includes: 

  • Ensure the safety and comfort of all guests. 
  • Perform first aid and/or CPR when needed. 
  • Perform safety demonstrations, make announcements, and greet guests in a respectful, professional manner. 
  • Inflight service – selling snacks and beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic). 
  • Ensure boarding requirements are met, and guests are fit to travel. 
  • Perform duties in an efficient manner to ensure a quick turn-around. 
  • Groom the aircraft 
     

All while travelling to many of our WestJet Destinations.

Calgary Campus/Hangar Video Tour

Training

Employment is conditional upon successful completion of Initial Cabin Crew Member training. Failure to attend Initial Training in its entirety will result in your release. 

Details of the six-week, full-time, paid training program are as follows: 

  • Trainees will be paid $17.30/hour at 40 hours per week during training. 
  • Training can occur at any time (e.g. early mornings, evenings, etc.) and any day of the week, including weekends and statutory holidays. You will be provided with a schedule prior to the start of your training; however, the schedule is always subject to change. 
  • You will be responsible for your own travel, accommodation and meal costs for any training conducted at your designated base. 
  • If the training is held outside of your base, accommodation will be provided. 
  • Attendance and punctuality is mandatory. 
  • You must maintain a neat and professional appearance. 
  • You will receive training material 2 weeks prior to training and must complete pre-course, e-learning components prior to the start of the Initial Training program. 
  • There will be multiple exams and a mark of 85% must be achieved on each exam; only one (1) exam rewrite is permitted. 
  • You must pass hands-on training such as emergency scenarios, evacuation drills, and can on-board evaluation. 
  • Homework will be assigned on a regular basis and must be completed as assigned by the instructor. 
  • Failure to attend and complete Initial Training in its entirety will result in release from the Initial Training program 
  • The training will take place at a WestJet Training facility. 
  • You will receive “1 on 1” coaching and training to continue to improve your performance and metrics.

 

Schedule

WestJet operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 days a year. Cabin Crew Members must be available to work any hour of the day and any day of the week or year. 

  • Full-time Cabin Crew Members will be scheduled between 80 Credit Hours and 90 Credit Hours in each monthly scheduling period. 
  • You can be scheduled to a maximum of six consecutive days. 
  • You are guaranteed a minimum of 12 days off each month. 
  • Work schedules are published monthly on the 21th of each month for the following month (subject to change). 
  • Schedule bidding will be based on seniority. New Hire CCM's may expect more reserve blocks. 
  • The role is shift work and you are required to be available to work early mornings, evenings, overnights (i.e. red-eye flights), weekends and holidays. 
  • Frequent travel away from home for up to five nights is common. 
  • You are required to be on call holding reserve blocks. These reserve blocks will be included in your schedule. Reserve will be scheduled in blocks up to six consecutive days. Multiple reserve pairings may be held per month. 
  • When holding reserve, you must ensure you can be contacted at any time to work a pairing and be able to report to work within two hours of the request being made. If you are called but not available to answer the phone, you are given only 20 minutes to return the call. If you do not return the call or are unable to be at the airport within two hours, this is considered as not showing up for work.​​​​​

Uniform

Each WestJetter has been issued a specific garment allowance based on collective agreement language.  New to order: 

  • 3 pants, skirts or dresses (may be in combination) 
  • 4 shirts (take away 1 for every dress ordered) 
  • 1 belt 
  • 1 Blazer 
  • 1 Vest (if ordering rocky mountain) 
  • 2 Neckwear 
  • 1 Outercoat 
  • 2 Name brevets 
  • 1 Wing 
  • 1 Apron 
  • 1 Pocket square (RM only) 
  • 2 Lanyards
