WestJet Rewards remains focused on making travel more accessible by helping Canadians save on travel.
The program is still designed around making savings on redemption simple: apply any amount of WestJet points to any fare, with no blackouts or pricing grids. The new program adds to this with more ways to earn points and save on flights and vacations.
In addition, Silver, Gold and even Platinum status can now be achieved without flying, or through a combination of travel spend and credit card spend.

The WestJet dollar has always been easy to use and understand; however, it has limited the number of choices we can give members to earn and redeem their rewards the way they want.

WestJet points will offer more flexibility on redemption and new ways to earn.
WestJet points can integrate with new partners like TELUS and Skip, giving you more options beyond travel.
WestJet points can be awarded in smaller increments, allowing us to count smaller purchases with WestJet (e.g. seat selection and checked bags) while also expanding the types of things you can earn on in your day-to-day (the WestJet Rewards eStore).
WestJet points allow us to provide new redemption value on the items we’ve added when booked outside of the booking flow, thereby allowing the member to choose convenience even if it comes at varied rates of value.
WestJet points let you use your rewards on more things, even after you’ve booked your flight. This means you can choose to pay with points for extras—like cabin upgrades or seat selection—whenever it’s most convenient for you. The number of points needed might change depending on when and how you book, but you get more options to use your rewards the way you want.

Silver, Gold and Platinum members will now be able to earn tier qualifying spend and WestJet points on cabin upgrades purchased, as well as on carrier surcharges (other Air Transportation Charges) on the ticket. For many of our frequent flyers, this will make a meaningful difference in accumulation of both tier qualifying spend and WestJet points.

This depends on a few factors: your tier, the route flown and the extras purchased (or not). Teal members will earn at least two times what they do today, moving from 0.5% of base fare only to 1 pt per dollar spent on the base fare plus extras. For top-tier members, their earn rates will stay the same (e.g., Silver at 3% becomes 3 pts per dollar). However, members can now also earn WestJet points on extras such as upgrades and surcharges. We’ve included an example below for a flight between Calgary and London, England.

Roundtrip flight from Calgary, AB to London, England:

Fare details:
- $791 base fare 
- $500 carrier surcharges (now eligible for earn)
- $70 extra checked bag (now eligible for earn)
- $233 Extended Comfort seat (now eligible for earn)
- $1,594 total
Before and after:
- Teal: 4 WSD before, now 1,594 pts (1 pt/$ on $1,594 vs. 0.5% on $791)
- Silver: 24 WSD before, now 4,782 pts (3pts/$ on $1,594 vs. 3.0% on $791)
- Gold: 40 WSD before, now 7,970 pts (5pts/$ on $1,594 vs. 5.0% on $791)
- Platinum: 63 WSD before, now 12,752 pts (8pts/$ on $1,594 vs. 8.0% on $791)

In the examples above, Silver, Gold and Platinum members may not have needed to purchase an extra checked bag or Extended Comfort seat, as their tier benefits may have granted these benefits free of charge.

At time of booking:

100 WestJet points will be worth 1 CAD savings on base fare, surcharges (other Air Transportation Charges), bags and seats.
After making a full redemption for everything on the ticket, if a member has enough remaining points to cover the taxes and fees, they will have the option to redeem on that portion as well. Redemption will be available in two increments: either 50% or 100% of the taxes and fees, the latter allowing for a fully free flight or vacation.
When redeeming on the taxes and fees portion of the ticket, 105 – 110 WestJet points will be worth 1 CAD savings.

Post-booking purchases:

100 – 110 WestJet points will be worth 1 CAD savings on flight extras added post-booking, which can be done during Manage Trips and Digital Check-In.

If you use your WestJet points for a Member Exclusive fare, you’ll access redemption fares with the highest point values. If the Member Exclusive fares are not available on the exact flight you want, you can always use your points to purchase any fare available on our website (or WestJet app), allowing you to reduce the cash payment required.

Plus, if you have WestJet Rewards status, you can still enjoy perks like complimentary upgrades and lounge access when you travel on a Member Exclusive Fare.

No. WestJet points are the reward currency that can be redeemed to save on travel and vacations with WestJet and merch in the WestJet Reward eStore. WestJet points are independent of tier qualifying spend.

Tier qualifying spend is how we track your progress to Silver, Gold or Platinum status. It includes certain portions of your flight and vacation package spend with WestJet, along with amounts earned through Status Lift, a benefit provided to primary cardholders of a WestJet RBC^® World Elite Mastercard^‡. Tier qualifying spend has no monetary value and cannot be redeemed or exchanged.

There are three adjustments in the top-tier benefits:

Platinum members can now transfer their guest lounge and seat selection vouchers to other WestJet Rewards members.
Gold members can now transfer their guest lounge vouchers to other WestJet Rewards members.
Silver members’ seat selection vouchers (earned through achieving Silver in the remainder of the 2025 qualifying year and beyond) can now only select standard seats in the Economy cabin (Extended Comfort and Exit row excluded). All previously issued seat selection vouchers to current Silver members will remain eligible for any seat in the Economy cabin.

The WestJet Rewards eStore will launch on April 30, 2025 with the other program enhancements. You will be able to access the eStore through your WestJet account, the WestJet app and on our website in the Rewards menu.

You can sign in to the WestJet Rewards eStore using your WestJet Rewards ID and password, allowing you to earn and redeem on your purchases.

2. Tier qualifying spend is composed of: 1) purchases of WestJet Eligible Fares on WestJet-Marketed Flights, prorated among all flown segments on the ticket according to IATA prorate standards; 2) purchases of WestJet-Eligible Ancillaries, 3) purchases of WestJet Vacations Eligible Packages, calculated as a set percentage of the Member’s proportionate share of the final base package price, processed as a single amount upon completion of travel, and; 4) any amounts earned from Status Lift in a Qualifying Year. 6. Effective April 30, 2025, primary cardholders on a WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard and/or WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard for Business credit card account (“Eligible Cardholder(s)”) will have access to an improved version of “Status Lift”, an annual benefit to help Eligible Cardholders achieve the Silver, Gold or Platinum status faster each year, by providing them a supplemental method to earn tier qualifying spend.

Eligible Cardholders will earn the equivalent of 200 CAD in tier qualifying spend for every $5,000 in Eligible Purchases (as defined below) (“Status Lift”) charged to their WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard and/or WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard for Business credit card account (each, an “Eligible RBC World Elite Account”) during a Qualifying Year (as defined below). Status Lift(s) will be added to their other tier qualifying spend and count towards reaching their next WestJet Rewards tier. If an Eligible Cardholder has two (2) Eligible RBC World Elite Accounts, the Eligible Purchases (as defined below) made with both accounts will be combined towards reaching the $5,000 in Eligible Purchases.

Applicable to existing Eligible Cardholders prior to April 30, 2025: Eligible Purchases (as defined below) that appear on the January, February, March and April 2025 monthly statements of an Eligible Cardholder will count towards the new Status Lift qualifying spend of $5,000 in Eligible Purchases and any addition Lift(s) will be credited by WestJet to their WestJet Rewards account in May 2025.

“Eligible Purchases” means the total of net purchase transactions, made by all cardholders on the Eligible RBC World Elite Account, that appear on the Eligible RBC World Elite Account monthly statements prepared during a Qualifying Year (as defined below), minus returns, other credits, fees, interest charges, and cash advances (such as balance transfers, cash-like transactions and bill payments that are not pre-authorized charges set up with a merchant).

“Qualifying Year” means January 1 to December 31 of each calendar year. For new Eligible RBC World Elite Accounts, it means the period between the first Eligible RBC World Elite Account monthly statement date, and December 31.

A Status Lift may be awarded up to fifty (50) times per Qualifying Year, which is equivalent to 10,000 CAD in tier qualifying spend. A Status Lift will be awarded approximately ten (10) business days after the monthly statement date for which the $5,000 in Eligible Purchases is reached.

For each Qualifying Year, Status Lifts are awarded based on the total Eligible Purchases posted to an Eligible RBC World Elite Account(s) until the December monthly statement date (that is the date the statement is prepared). This means that some purchases made in December may not count towards the $5,000 in Eligible Purchases for that Qualifying Year. For example, if monthly statements are prepared on the 27th day of each month and a purchase is made on December 28, the transaction will be posted to the January monthly statement and will not count towards the $5,000 in Eligible Purchases for the current Qualifying Year. Status Lift(s) and Eligible Purchases will reset to zero (0) at the start of each Qualifying Year.

For an Eligible Cardholder to earn a Status Lift, their Eligible RBC World Elite Account must be open and in good standing at the time the Status Lift is awarded. If an Eligible RBC World Elite Account is closed before the end of a Qualifying Year, WestJet reserves the right to remove any Status Lift(s) and/or tier upgrade(s) the Eligible Cardholder may have received through this benefit. 

Tier qualifying spend earned through Status Lift have no monetary or other exchange value, and cannot be sold or transferred. 

WestJet and Royal Bank of Canada reserve the right to change or withdraw the Status Lift benefit at any time.
