Upscale Stay in a Great Location

Naahlii (Ottawa, Canada) on Aug 11, 2024

This hotel is ideally located just steps from nice cafes and the main downtown district while somehow being separate from any bustle. St. John’s is a very hilly city and this Sheraton is on top of a rise, so heading into the action is a downhill stroll. The rooms are comfortable, though many hotels in Newfoundland only offer rooms with two double beds instead of two queens, including this one, which was the main disappointment. The hotel lives up to Marriott standards, with attentive housekeeping and a great restaurant. Newfie hospitality was on full display, with the staff all being friendly and helpful, especially Ashley at the front desk and Jacquina (not sure if I spelled that right) at the restaurant. This is a good hotel to choose for your stay in St. John’s.

Great Stay- Thank you!

Capicatalina (Orange County, California) on Aug 04, 2024

On a solo trip to St. John's for 5 days, I stayed at the Sheraton and used some Marriott points. I loved the feel when I walked in, it feels like a sweet, boutique hotel. The hotel is huge though! There is a wedding going on inside right now. The common areas are really bright, pretty and comfy. I have found my room to be really great. I look out onto the water and I love waking up to the view. In room coffee is the bare minimum but there is a place on the corner that has the best oat milk lattes called Bannerman Brewing. I had breakfast at the restaurant at the Sheraton and it didn't disappoint - everyone is SO FRIENDLY!!

Love the Location & the View!

Jack M (Halifax, Canada) on Jul 26, 2024

Great location. Easy walking distance to restaurants, bars. Five minute drive to tourist attractions such as Quidi Vidi, Signal Hill, etc. We had a room overlooking the harbour and were able to see trawler boats, a Canadian Navy destroyer and an Ocean liner arrive. Room was a good size and well maintained. The only suggestion I would give is it should have a walk-in shower versus having to stand in a tub for a shower. The service was superior.

No tv service in hotel room

Grace O (Toronto, Canada) on Jul 24, 2024

No tv reception for two and no reliable date to have the service restored. The whole hotel is down according to technicians. No one really seems to know any thing about situation. A memo under each door or by elevator would correct communication failure

Hill Top Luxury

F1061OAjamess (Toronto, Canada) on Jul 21, 2024

It was about the second night there that I recalled when I’d last been in the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland. The hotel opened in 1984 and looking at the Atrium I remember going there for a New Years Eve Party in 1984. The Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland sits at the north end of downtown St Johns. It’s on the site of the original Hotel Newfoundland opened in 1926 which was built in the style of the grand railway hotels of Canada. This is odd as the old St Johns train station is at the other end of the downtown core. The hotel does sit on a prominent hill overlooking the harbour which provides excellent views form many of the rooms. The hotel has all the expected amenities, A restaurant and bar, various meeting and conference rooms of differing sizes, and the aforementioned Atrium which is perfect for weddings (there was one during my stay) and similar functions. There is also a fully equipped fitness centre and an indoor pool and jacuzzi. Naturally there is fast and easy to set up WIFI throughout the property. Check in was fast and simple, although there was a bit of a line up as it was Friday night and I was behind a bus tour group. My room on the fourth floor had a view of the harbour which was an added bonus. Rooms on the other side have some good city views. The room was a bit small but well laid out with a table and chairs, desk and wall unit as well as the bed. The Queen-sized bed was firm and there was adequate bedding including a thick comforter. There were several outlets including bedside ones to allow charging of my phone and tablet. The wall mounted smart TV was enormous and already set up with several streaming options such as Netflix and YouTube. There was a small fridge and a coffee maker and several bottles of water replaced daily. There was more than adequate drawers and closet space for two people and plenty of good quality wooden hangers. Of note they were not of the type that attached to the rail which was a plus. There was also an iron and ironing board as well as laundry bags with instructions for drycleaning services. The bathroom was well laid out and there were no issues with either hot water or water pressure. There was a more than adequate supply of fresh towels and toiletries, replenished as needed. I was there for five nights for a specific visit, the repatriation of the Newfoundland Unknown Soldier as part of the Veterans Affairs Canada official delegation and as such was busy for most of the extended weekend. As such I didn’t have much opportunity to explore or take advantage of the hotel’s amenities, with two exceptions. I took several meals five breakfasts and one dinner in the hotel restaurant. Actually, I ended up eating all my meals in the bar area, which is also served by the same kitchen. Food was great and reasonably priced. I also joined a few of my fellow Veteran delegates in the bar for a quiet drink after our long days. The other amenity I took full advantage of every day and sometimes more than once a day was the jacuzzi. I found it perfect cure for my aching back and legs and to unwind after a long and often tiring day. When I initially booked my trip to St John’s I had chose a more modest accommodation. When I was asked to take part in the official delegation it came with a room here. In retrospect staying here was one of the reasons I’m glad I was asked and accepted the invitation. In future I may seriously consider this hotel over cheaper alternatives.
