So it’s been a while, but we went in early May. Every member of staff was amazing, hotel is great and it was a trip to remember. It deserves all the credit it gets . Food was great. Room great (but for an ...idyllic view don’t get the GF room) the cleaning personnel are amazing . Pool side busy . Overall i cannot fault it . We enjoyed every moment xx
We Loved This Hotel

I am so pleased that I chose this hotel. Being a low rise, smaller hotel, we found that it was very friendly and there was a good mix of nationalities. The staff are friendly and accommodating, the place w...as clean, including the outside spaces and the beach. The beach team did a very good job of clearing the seaweed which is becoming a problem in lots of Caribbean resorts. The food, whilst not as much choice as some larger hotels we've stayed in, was on the whole good and offered something to cater for most palates. We had a great meal in Sizzle, the steakhouse, for our anniversary, we both ordered the fillet mignon and it was cooked to perfection. We also ate at Colin's Rum Shack on a few occasions at lunchtime and found the food hear to be good too. There is a comprehensive cocktail list, all made from scratch, and whilst I didn't do the whole list, the ones I did try were great. We found the staff to be very helpful, and Morgan, the General Manager, was very visible and approachable. We stayed in an Ocean View room on the 3rd floor which was great, sitting on the balcony first thing in the morning listening to the birds was such a joy. Entertainment is low key, with a music act on most evenings, and the Managers cocktail party every Tuesday. There isn't the entertainment team which you find in larger hotels, and it was such a pleasure not to be hassled to join in with this and that during the day. The hotel is a short walk from the Savannah Racecourse and Garrison area and I would recommend a visit to both the Heritage Museum and George Washington House. I also recommend a trip to Oistins Fish Fry, the fish is so good and relatively inexpensive, and the atmosphere is great. If we return to Barbados, we will definitely go back to Sugar Bay
Perhaps I missed something from prior reviews before booking.

We visited with family/friends the week of June 23rd. Here is my review. 1st time visiting Barbados and won't be the last. Resort is approximately 30 minutes from the airport. Upon arrival you are offered... Rum Punch or water. Check- in was smooth. Be on alert, there is a required hold on your credit card for incidentals which the hold is released once you checkout. There is also a daily fee which is non- refundable. Rooms were clean, very small and outdated. Bravo to housekeeping. No water, soda or beer in the fridge when we arrived. We had to call the front desk. Air conditioner was self monitoring via remote control. Wifi was great! There were elevators at the resort, just not any on our side of the resort. Only 1 pool and it was not clean. Only 1 buffet restaurant. Colin's is a beach/ bar restaurant that serves burgers/ fries/ chicken fingers. Look for David at Colin's bar, he's the best! The food was blah, nothing exceptional. Sizzle steakhouse was good, Umi Japanese was just ok. Be careful as all restaurants are not part of the " all- inclusive " package. No top shelf liquor unless you call Stoli top shelf. Stop at duty free in the airport upon arrival. Pigeons and flies are EVERYWHERE. Entertainment was decent. If you expect a Micheal Jackson show or magic show for the kids, it will not happen at this resort. The resort closes down around 10pm. No room service or nightly snack bar. Folks reserve sunbeds early. If you get a chance go off the resort to visit OP Bistro for dinner... delish! And Olstin for the Friday night fish fry. Take a bus tour of the town & visit Rihanna's childhood home. The staff at this resort is AWESOME, the hospitality is top notch which made our visit enjoyable. Is this resort overpriced, absolutely. Would I visit this resort again, only if there is an complete renovation.
Lovely stay at Sugar Bay

We stayed at sugar bay for our first visit to Barbados in May 2023 (pre full refurb) Check in was warm and friendly with a welcome glass of rum punch or two ! Shown to our room and delighted that we were... given a family room consisting of two bedrooms , one with a king bed with balcony and one with king bed and two windows and a shower room in between. This was an excellent room as it gave our 15 year old his own space . Lots of space in each room with drawers in both and a wardrobe in main room. Mini bar in 2nd room filled with coke water and beers . Air con was good in each room but our clothes did get damp so maybe bring some hanging dehumidifier bags . The hallways were always very damp and wet , our room was at the end of the corridor so was slippery underfoot too, the elevator was a bonus but it was always dirty with handprints and mess. Food from rooms left out in corridors for a few days in a row and not cleaned away. The food was lovely at breakfast with excellent service with a smile from every member of staff. Especially the singing egg lady …. A legend ! Food at Collins st lunch was great too but we found the buffet lacking in the evenings . We didn’t realise we could have ordered our son something off of a kids menu until we’d returned home . The steak house was amazing , excellent food and even better service , although it did get very hot up there . I enjoyed umi but my husband found the food greasy . Service was fab here too . The bar was a lot of fun ! The staff were excellent, we loved tyrese , Nicolas , David, Joan and Kay The rum sours are legendary ! We didn’t try the pub as had our son with us . The beach was lovely, beach boys would set you up with an umbrella where you wanted . Excellent snorkelling and can borrow masks , kayaks etc easily which was great . We didn’t enjoy the pool area , wasn’t cleaned well and found the water a bit murky ! Sorry Morgan ! Loungers taken early by pool so didn’t get a look in even if we wanted to. Love the fact that sugar bay is a family run hotel and the owners are always available should any problems occur . Love the fact your room key is on your wristband … excellent idea , no lost keys ! We had a late flight so opted to pay for a late check out . Things seem to get confusing for some people after check out , where some people have eaten and had drinks and some are told they can’t . We were fine but maybe this needs explaining more clearly to staff and guests alike so everyone knows the set rules . All in all an amazing holiday at sugar bay and I wouldn’t hesitate to come back, the staff make this hotel special , keep up the excellent work guys ????
Had a great holiday

Anniversary trip, stayed 10 days. The room was lovely, balcony and on each side. Large and comfortable. Great food, specialty restaurants well worth a visit. Cocktails were very good. Beach small but... plenty of space and sunbeds always available. Not really able to swim in sea as a bit too rough. Staff very attentive and polite. Really nice sunbeds by the pool. Four stars due to one down side - pool is not deep at all, it was cloudy when we arrived and by day three you could not see your feet in three foot of water. Very murky. Reported to concierge but no action. Other guests were told it was due to suncreen but that is what the filters and cleaning are for. By day six cleaning took place and pool was clean as it should be, not before we hurt our feet on the ledges inside the pool which you could not see. Had a great holiday.
