Effective January 1, 2025, we’re making changes to the qualifying spend thresholds for each tier: 

Our tier qualifying thresholds have remained steady since 2018, marking six years since we’ve changed how WestJet Rewards members qualify for the benefits offered at each level. As a transparent spend-based program, it is necessary for us to conduct annual reviews of these thresholds to ensure we can consistently deliver priority services and benefits. 

If you achieve Silver, Gold or Platinum during the 2024 qualifying year (January 1 – December 31), you will continue to enjoy the benefits you earned at the previous spend levels for the entirety of 2025. 

The ability to retain your status and benefits in future years will be based on your tier qualifying spend for the 2025 qualifying year (and each year following), according to the new qualification levels.

With the continued growth of our airline and WestJet Rewards, we need to adjust our boarding zones to enable a smoother boarding experience for all guests, while continuing to deliver a priority boarding experience that reflects the benefit of being a top-tier member.  

Effective January 15, 2025: 

• Zone 1 will be reserved exclusively for Platinum members and guests travelling in Premium and Business cabins. 
• Zone 2 will be reserved for Gold* and Silver members alongside guests who purchased Extended Comfort. 

Additionally, we have removed several rows from the Zone 2 boarding call, with guests seated in those rows now boarding in Zones 3 through 9. This will help to rebalance the distribution across Zone 1 and 2 by reducing the total number of guests in our dedicated priority boarding queues. 

*Delta Gold Medallion^® members will also move to Zone 2 priority boarding.

Top-tier members will continue to be eligible for complimentary upgrades prior to check-in and at the gate, subject to availability and the purchase of eligible fares. 

Effective January 15, 2025, we’re expanding the complimentary upgrade eligibility to include:  

• A Platinum, Gold or Silver member, plus one other guest on the same booking (i.e. single or two-guest reservations only) 
• Member Exclusive (Economy) fares for Platinum members on upgrades to Premium or Extended Comfort

Effective January 1, 2025, we are reducing the overall number of milestone awards while adjusting the award choices at each level:

We are excited to introduce a new milestone qualifying spend threshold, providing an opportunity to earn milestone awards earlier on in the travel spend journey. Now starting at $2,000, you’ll have the option to select the award that’s the most rewarding to you:  

• 20 WestJet dollars 
  
• $200 in tier qualifying spend for the current year 
  
• $25 Skip gift card 
  
  

Once you reach $8,000 and above, you’ll continue to have a choice of the following awards:  

• WestJet-wide companion voucher 
• Six guest advance seat selection vouchers 
  
• Four guest lounge vouchers 
  

The Gift of Gold milestone award, valid for Gold status for one round-trip flight, will be removed from available choices. Any Gift of Gold vouchers earned prior to January 1, 2025 can continue to be redeemed. 

Member feedback has been to offer more variety and better choices at each level, and even more new choices for milestone awards will be added as part of the larger enhancements to WestJet Rewards coming later in 2025.

We’re making some exciting updates to companion vouchers issued as milestone awards to offer more flexibility. Effective immediately, all companion vouchers issued as milestone awards will have a two-year expiry. 

• Any unused companion vouchers issued as milestone awards in 2024 have been extended for an additional 12 months from the original expiration date. 
  
  

Additionally, Gold and Platinum members will now have the option to combine two companion vouchers on the same booking, through their respective priority support number accessible via the WestJet app. 

Note: There are no changes to companion vouchers issued in connection with the WestJet RBC^® World Elite Mastercard^‡.

We are pleased to share a new booking enhancement when redeeming your WestJet dollars. As of September 16, 2024, you can now redeem your WestJet dollars on an eligible Sunwing Vacations package on sunwing.ca. Sunwing Vacations offers packages from 24 airports across Canada to 27 sun destinations, including the exciting additions of Tulum, Camaguey-Santa Lucia and San Andrés for the winter 2024-2025 schedule. 

Travellers departing from Quebec can also choose to redeem on packages offered by WestJet Vacations Quebec, a new tour operator under the Sunwing Vacations Group, featuring packages from three airports in Quebec to 20 sun destinations in Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America. WestJet dollar redemption on WestJet Vacations Quebec packages is available through their contact centre only. 

With a minimum of 50 WestJet dollars, you can pay for all or part of the base fare package price of an eligible Sunwing Vacations or WestJet Vacations Quebec package. New bookings only. For more information about redeeming on vacation packages, visit our WestJet dollars page.  

Effective February 2024, if you've recently expanded your family or are expecting to, you may be eligible for a new Parental Leave benefit. If you experienced a reduction in travel during parental leave, you can request a reinstatement or extension of your tier status and benefits when you return to work.   

Status will be reinstated for the remainder of the year in which their leave is completed and the entirety of the following year, giving members the opportunity to immediately enjoy their benefits as soon as they start travelling again, while also receiving a full 12 months to requalify in the second year.

Starting in February 2024, Silver rewards members will receive six lounge vouchers, eligible for themselves or accompanying guests on the day of their WestJet flight departure. This enhancement gives Silver members more choice on how they use their lounge vouchers. Simply present a valid WestJet boarding pass at participating airport lounges.

2. You will earn up to 1.5% back in WestJet dollars on your everyday purchases and up to 2.0% back when you purchase WestJet flights or WestJet Vacations packages, depending on the card you choose.
