Well, given negative reviews, I was a bit apprehensive about this resort - but overall, we had a very good experience. I write this review having vacationed at Riu, Melia, Barcelo, Grand Palladium and Iberostar resorts. Here's the good and the bad for Krystal Grand in Nuevo Vallarta. The buffet area in the cafeteria appeared small at first, but this was misleading - the quantity and choice of the food that was offered was great (including for vegetarians). Unlike many other resorts, it was kept hot! We enjoyed our meals there. We also found the food tasty in the two of the three on-site restaurants that we tried. The seating for the cafeteria faced the ocean, which made for beautiful views during our meals. With only a couple minor exceptions (mainly around the adult pool), we found the service at this resort excellent, especially at the buffet and restaurants. The beach does not have any trees, but is sandy and very swimmable, with a long shallow stretch before reaching deeper waters. The beds were comfortable, fridge was kept stocked, and our room was quiet despite being close to the lobby and foot traffic. The music around the adult pool was not too loud. The hotel is located an easy 30 minute walk from Bucerias, with its market (where you can book tours for cheaper than in the hotel) and restaurants. A short distance from town, the dog rescue called A Dog's New Life, which you can visit (they can pick you up in town) The hotel put together a fantastic New Year's eve celebration, with a beautiful dinner followed by a dance party. On the flip side, too many people reserved too many chairs (often unused for several hours), which made finding pool/beach seating difficult. On our last day there, we saw that the hotel was finally making more seating available by removing towels left unattended for too long. The Wifi in the resort is very poor. We had none whatsoever in our first room (we moved and had Wifi when closer to the lobby). The rooftop bar isn't attractive. Too little seating, and what's there isn't comfortable. Given the spectacular views from there, it would make sense for the hotel to create a more inviting atmosphere. Overall, a very pleasant vacation and we would recommend this resort.

Excellent stay, family had a great experience. Impeccably clean rooms, a really fun campus for families, great food (more on that below), professional and helpful staff. In terms of value for your all inclusive experience, I would rate this as five stars. We used Hotels.com and Expedia to book our stay and were more than happy with how this worked out. This is a very Mexican place and we loved it, with many families joining us from around Mexico and the world as reflected in the amazing New Year's Eve celebration that featured live music of a high caliber followed by what I can only describe as incredible fun with everyone dancing and sharing good wishes. The staff went all out to make this a great experience for us that we will not soon forget. Our rooms could not have been better, with views and space to die for. I will admit that you are better served to have two guests to a room as the pull out couch is a bit tight but is perfect for smaller folk (kids). We felt the cost was more than worth it. Staff keep these spaces clean and organized, with a 'rain' shower large closet, and limestone floors that are nicely done. There is a good deal of space to have friends play cards or to host a sunset viewing (or stars and meteors for us) but please respect the no smoking ban, the staff are quite strict (thank goodness) and there are designated areas to enjoy tobacco or the beach. We had only one issue with smoking and it was attended to promptly. The staff are a great team, who often work long hours just to make our experience more valuable. They are full of humor and goodwill, when you read their level of busyness(service comes first), take some time to chat and take some Spanish lessons they also enjoy practicing their English too, there are too many great people to name and I am not sure it is OK to share that here. A HUGE thank you for their work to put together a fitting excursion to zip lining and fresh water fun, make sure to ask the concierge for advice (thanks to Expedia, we were able to do this very soon upon arrival and that made our ability to choose times and dates exactly what we wanted). Lastly a shout out to the lifeguarding team, so good to have some pros (who are not enjoying pool side refreshment) keeping an eye on things, while, as we say in Canada: "keeping the vibe high (good)". Tipping is not mandatory and expected at all times. However, pesos are the best thing to have and we had a small stash of 10, 20 and 50s for everyday gestures of appreciation even having some 100s for special efforts. Kids should not tip and I think the staff would be offended if that were the case, they love to take care of young ones. There is a great night market on resort that is more low key and we bought some beautiful blankets and bowls that are as good as any we found elsewhere. The food. Again, this is a very Mexican place, and the cuisine of the home country is first and foremost at the buffet, or even the on site restaurants. Make sure to book early for reservations, the concierge can help you do so upon arrival, they are very popular. The Grill was our favorite on Italian night, while the Asian and Mexican were good, you can, and should, find better off resort. The Buffet was always good for us, I loved the fresh fish and tacos, but there was a good selection that varied every day. Great stews, ribs, and baked goods. Take a Bite, the mini cafe, simply rocks its a great place to score a coffee etc. Lastly the drink, well, there was a good selection and you will find your favorite delight to park on hand next to the pool. Most importantly, our son, who is neurodiverse, made some big leaps for personal growth here. He felt comfortable being more independent and was able to lower his anxiety while enjoying his favorite things. What more can we ask? THAT is why I go 5 stars all the way.
