Pleasantly surprised…..exceeded expectations.

Only spent one night at this property with my wife. we were pleasantly surprised. Exceeded our expectations. Small, quaint resort oceanfront. Staff was excellent. Food was very good and we thoroughly enjoy...ed ourselves. Spice the manager of the restaurant, Mark, one of the servers and Felicia another server we’re outstanding. We would stay here again on our next visit to Antigua. Thank you for taking such good care of us.
Disappointing Stay
Darren D on Apr 03, 2025
We arrived back from here last week and stayed for 10 nights. We had read the reviews before going which where good - the majority and bad which you expect that some people have different views. We knew it... was a 3 star Hotel but were paying for a 5 star and went with an open mind as we wanted to visit Antigua. We booked a transfer with the Hotel as suggested and emailed 2 weeks before going asking for our room to be extended on the last day as we had a late flight at 21.00pm. In the taxi on route which took 10 minutes the driver received a call from the hotel asking where we were and how much longer we would be - on arrival the lady who Greeted us seemed in a rush and we were only briefed on the hotel for 5 minutes given a drink which we couldn't finish and shown to our rooms, not a Great start. The Hotel is in a Great location, quiet as described and had 2 beaches one small with about 3 sets of beds and the other on with around 30 sets. Beds have no cushions there is no service on them and they are quiet - the only time you see anyone at the Hotel is at meal times. There is little entertainment at the Hotel - movie night on Mondays i reception area - only one person sat there and Tuesdays and Thursdays they invite someone in - Tuesday we had a band and singer who were excellent and everyone at the Hotel loved it - atmosphere was Great and even an 89 year lady abandoned her walking stick to dance the night away. Thursday didn't compare with someone doing his decks and was low key. Why they don't have something on every night for the guests is an opportunity they are missing. We stayed in a Ocean front room with lovely views, the rooms are big enough, clean and tidy but basic. There are plenty of towels and the beds are changed daily, the guy doing our room was very efficient . In a review it was pointed out about the towels having holes in them - the first towel my wife picked up you could put your finger through it. On the second night my wife plugged her tongs in and tripped all the fuses some sockets worked some didn't. On the third night our ac unit on returning to the room at 6pm wasn't working and was dripping water .We didn't need the air conditioning anyway so left if till the morning to report it. During the night the ac unit unit started to bang and make noise for about and hour and this continued through the night. I reported it first thing in the morning about 8am when someone was on the desk and advised i needed to complain about the noise all night and we hadn't slept and the ac was broken was met with a stern look and we should have told them the night before no apology no service no smile - just we will get it seen to !! The ladies on the desk throughout the stay had no service skills and were more worried about their phones or how they looked, rarely said hello when passing and overall were unhelpful The rooms need updating - the toilet seat broke one day and took all day to repair and the sliding doors were a struggle to open, with it either being stuck or loose in your hands. The worst thing about the rooms was the shower - mould on the grouting a shower curtain that just about hung on and was covered in orange mould at the bottom with little or no warm water at times. The Bar area was large and comfortable with chairs looking out to the sea. There is is no drinks menu to view and even asking for recommendations didn't get much luck. You only leant what to have by seeing what some one else was having and asking what they had .The ladies serving serving were not interested at all and the guys set a good level of Banter with Andre leading the way. One night the coke/fizzy machine wasn't working and for four days there was nothing to make Pina Colada's ! The Restaurant - was in a Great location and looked Great - we went all inclusive and with no buffet offered thought it would be interesting to see how it went. The menus are the same every day pretty much and is very repetitive, if you went out for a meal tonight you wouldn't want to go there the next night, and the next and the next ? The service is inconsistent with some staff excellent, Caroline and Mark the best and others who don't communicate. You are Greeted by Lanie who is lovely and u cannot fault and others who question you when sat down at breakfast or lunch why you have sat down without there permission Breakfast menu is suggested to be choose 4 items and the drinks one only of tea coffee and Orange juice. This wasn't the case you could have what drinks you wanted and sometimes you would pick 5/6 items and asked if wanted anything else ? Only problem we had was when our hot food came out before our fruit and cereal and asked for it to be retuned and were told it would be re-ordered but came out stone cold on return. Overall quality was good and the Omelette with everything was excellent Lunch time the menu was the same with a special each day which was a salad - the menu was changed on our last day which the staff didn't no about with the calamari and chips replaced with fish n chips. There were signature dishes you could have but you have to pay as a extra eg steak - one day with the salad special and my main costing $52 , the signature steak $35 dollars but i couldn't swap it ? The evening menu is the same each night with a soup of the day, a Fish special and a Meat special with signature menu on top. You try and have the specials each night to liven up the variety with the quality again inconstant. One night my wife had Jerk chicken wings which she didn't like so i tried them and when the meat was off the bone the bones were seeping blood . When asked if the meal was ok we said no showed them the bones and they didn't no what to do ! we were just offered something else - no manager came over no interaction from anyone. We thought this was a one off it wasn't - anther night i had lamb stew looked nice but was cold, whilst waiting for my meal to be re-done my wife cut up her salmon which was raw and this was returned - Again no Manger came over, no service offered to discuss the poor food . Another night my wife had a Beef stew and then spent 2 days in the bed room! Dessert each night was pretty much ice cream with something if you were lucky There was a signature Menu again you could only have if you paid extra - U could have say salmon on the main menu which was $37 but not have an allowance to use to have a signature item which sometimes was less than your menu choice or pay the difference to have say Lobster or Steak. We did have steak one night at $45 each and was large and cooked very well, but you will pay tourist tax and a service tax on top which made it $120 in total. The hotel has been under New ownership since January and there is work to be done, although there is little to be seen that anything will change or is being changed. There is no Management in evidence at all, no one asking for feedback about your stay and how its going - you are just left to get on with it The last thing which was a big disappointment was on the last day. We had spoken to other guests about keeping their rooms on and no one encountered any problems. I had sent an email prior to arriving asking for the 12pm check out to be extended and was told to ask the day before departure - the day came and was told to to ask again on day of departure first thing - went to desk at 8.00am asked to come back at 8.30am.Returned to desk and asked for extension and told NO Hotel was fully booked - no apology just a blunt response - i asked if she was joking and just told me no. I asked what we were supposed to do from 12pm to 7pm and she just shrugged her shoulders. I was lost for words. I asked if we could just have a room for an hour to get changed in and have a shower she just no we are full. If you wanted a shower in the toilets next to the desk was a shower room - no towels were offered 12pm came and we checked out along with around another 12 couples - we gave the key back and it was hung up with a load more keys. Tuesday is the airports quietest day with only a Virgin flight due in that evening . All the couples were told the same no rooms, at lunch the hotel was empty. When we left at 7pm the Restaurant was empty and i counted 36 keys on hooks at reception out of 65 rooms available - Enough said .... Overall staying here was like ordering a nice Big expensive steak and when your plate arrives you get a beef burger.
