We are at Sandals now and agree James P. If you don’t have a Butler you will not get a lounger on the beach. It is bad

If you don’t have a butler you will not get a lounger on the beach or around the pool They reserve them all It has spoiled our holiday never going back to Sandals. To pay all this money and have to sit ...on a hard plastic lounger with no umbrella is bad
Good trip, not a good as Couples Resorts

We have previously stayed in the Negril area at Couples Swept Away which is spectacular but wanted to try something closer to the airport in Montego Bay. We did have a wonderful trip and I will start with... the good. The food at this resort is amazing and with equal access to Sandals Montego Bay, you could never exhaust what you are in the mood to eat. Our room was more up to date and better than our room at any Couples we have stayed at, as we were in a newer building so that was also nice. We also found the social life around the main pool to be very fun, because there isn’t a huge beach at this resort, so that’s where the action is, and we met many really great people. The staff were also friendly and hard working, especially at the bars and the people who cleaned our room. Tbh, everything else was sub par to Couples. I am someone who staves off the guilt of vacation by working out every couple of days, and the fitness facilities at this resort were extremely old, mostly machines from the 80s. The sauna was actually filled with ants and basically falling apart, and there were no lockers to put your stuff in or even a change room… the sauna was right next to an area where workers were chatting during their lunch break and you could hear every word, so I can't even begin to compare this to the state of the art fitness offerings at Couples resorts. There was 0 ‘spa’ feel to the fitness center here. Our wifi only worked for half the week, the ice machine on our floor did not work at all, and we complained a few times and nothing was fixed. We were constantly being approached by Sandals reps to rebook for a trip next year, and you could barely sit down anywhere before photographers descended on you, and they were pushy, so it took away from any chance to take in the sights. We also found the entertainment to be far more professional at Couples Swept Away, where things are clearly being handled by a manager who wants only the most top notch talent and professional stage presence. Our biggest beef was - because Sandals offers Butler service for 'some' people who are willing to pay, and willing to tip them btw which I understood was not allowed at Sandals Resorts (Couples is super strict about this) and because they also have fancy villas over the water for thousands of dollars a night that are booked up years in advance, there is a strong sense of 'tiers' at this resort. I could go on about this, but one example is you have 0 access to the very small beaches if you do not have a butler. As a matter of fact, you are actually treated rudely and shoed away by staff if you even try before 11am and once it even happened in the afternoon, we were not welcome at the beach, and were treated like we didn't belong there, by the staff and by guests who felt entitled because they had butler service. This really took away from our experience. We are so used to being treated like royalty by the Couples management and staff and fellow guests, regardless of what tier room you are in, so we were shocked and so disappointed by this. The spa services were also literally double the price of what they are in Negril and the facility was not even half as beautiful as Couples maybe because it was recently moved. We tried to negotiate this price down so we could at least have a massage, but no luck. I mean it's Jamaica, we still had an amazing time, the people were fun and friendly, the staff except for the Beach people were great, but we will definitely return to a Couples resort next time we visit Jamaica.
