Jewel Paradise 30th Anniversary holiday

richardambler2018 (Warminster, United Kingdom) on Oct 04, 2024

We went for our 30th Anniversary and have been to a few other resorts in Mexico and 2 Sandals in the Caribbean , this resort is just behind the Sandals we stayed at however in relation to the price paid this was excellent value at Jewel. Firstly I would definitely recommend this resort for many reasons, they made a fuss about our anniversary and this meant a lot to us . Rooms Very clean - the resort is spotless , and the room was very clean to ... Sylvia our cleaner was brilliant The rooms have nice decor , comfy beds and the size is just right We did feel the bath tap could be at the other end of the bath from the shower ...... banging my shin in the first few days reminded me.........minor point Food We had no issues with the food, no tummy troubles. The food at the buffet was limited with only a 50% occupancy but there was a different variety each day and the breakfast food was great and hot.... Merrick the omelette king was brilliant . Breakfast was a hit and miss for having cups / salt & pepper / glasses on our given table..... but never at lunch or evening meal. Again a minor point A La Carte restaurants were up there with Sandals......Food and Service....... All were so tasty, Allister at Moonstone remembered my order from before Coffee shop was brilliant for a cuppa and a crafty cake .......... just lovely Snack Bar was great, just right for a light lunch Extras We had a night time cabana .....on the beach, lovely listening to the sea, the clouds were out so we couldn't see the stars........ still amazing We paid for a special meal on our Anniversary in the gazebo and the food was delicious and the service was great Not the resorts fault but I would get a private transfer to the resort next time and save a hour dropping off other people Entertainment You have a quite pool near the snack bar if you just want to read /chill out, the entertainment team worked hard to get things going however we didn't stand a chance in the quizzes as they were slanted towards the North American knowledge, no major issue Would of liked a Table tennis competition..... glass bottom boat was a great trip and canoing was really fun The evening meal entertainment was ok ... the band were great and the steel band was just wonderful, but the highlight was the piano bar.......... this hidden Gem was so much fun......John or Elias both had different styles but it was so engaging and fun and you could join in as much or as little as you wanted........The best evenings I've had on holiday for years Resort Grounds are beautiful and cared for , there is a relaxed atmosphere which is great on holiday, nothing is more than 2 minutes walk away. there were plenty of sunbeds and the beach was a nice size The Gym was limited with equipment but you are on holiday so you find a way if it is busy We felt the Spa which looked lovely was pricey compared to other places we have been Staff Everyone was friendly, from the front desk staff, lifeguards, security, gardeners, JTL desk , bar staff.....so lovely but a few who stood out apart from the ones I have already mentioned Tanya Kaye ... concierge , making sure we were ok at all times Terry Ann & Joni Mae - serving drinks with a smile Sheffan / Raymondo - Bar staff at the Quiet pool..... knew my wife wanted Pina Colada with extra pineapple juice And when a member of staff was miserable or not engaging it was rare and maybe they had a bad morning We are so glad we chose jewel Paradise for our 30th and it is definitely somewhere we are recommending to our friends here YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED

The perfect spot to relax and refresh as a couple!

Budman67 (Midland, Ontario, Canada) on Oct 03, 2024

If you are reading reviews about any hotel/resort then you are probably trying to decide if you should book that resort and if it is right for you, or you have way to much free time and not enough hobbies. So for those who are thinking of booking or those who have booked and are having the pre trip ' did we book the right resort? ' jitters here my review from my perspective. First, I should let you know that we are the kind of travelers that are not bothered by minor deficiencies. We enjoy good food but we are not eating at Michelin star restaurants. If the room is clean and the shower is hot then we are happy. So on to the actual review. We were looking for a last minute getaway to recharge and relax( I don't actually relax on vacation but rather need to be doing something all the time). I found a great price for a 5 day trip to Jewel Paradise Cove and we booked it about 36 hours before departure. The resort is about an hour from Sangster Airport depending on traffic. The airport was very busy and it took a long time to get through customs. This has no reflection on the resort but I mention so you are away that it can take a while to get through. I spoke to other people who sped through the airport at other times. The resort is set back form the main highway and the property seems to be fully fenced. First impressions were very good. A lovely little lobby had views of the main pool and we were greeted by friendly staff that offered us a cool towel and whatever drink we wanted from the bar. Celene at the check in desk was absolutely fabulous, efficient and fun to talk to and she always waved and said hi throughout our stay. After a quick and fun check in process ( no wrist bands....yay...I hate wrist bands) we headed off to our room. It was a pool view room about a 1 minute walk from the lobby( in truth everything was about a 1 minute walk from our room)The room was very clean ( even under the bed!) and was a good size with a small balcony over looking the pool. The bathroom was a decent size with a very good sized shower that always had hot water and good pressure. The bed is on the firm side, which I prefer, but my wife would have liked it a little softer, pillows were great. You have a walk in closet and safe as well as a well stocked mini fridge. The room is older so some things are worn but everything is very well maintained. If a chipped tile is going to ruin your vacation then maybe the Jewel isnt for you but it will be your loss. After dropping our bags in our room, we headed to the buffet ,which is open air and overlooks the main pool . We ate at the buffet once for dinner and everyday for breakfast. The buffet was always good. It was off season and it is a smaller buffet but we always found good food to eat and they changed up a few things everyday. Some of the items were just warm but everything was well seasoned and trays were replenished frequently. The staff were very good. My water glass was constantly refilled and everyone seems to work really well together. We never had any tummy issues the entire time and we didnt hear about anyone else having them either. Another perk of this resort is the unlimited al a cartes. Only the Teppan-yaki grille requires a reservation. We had two great meals at the platinum restaurant and excellent service. The Platinum overlooks the ocean and the view was exceptional at sunset. The Japanese restaurant was a lot of fun, great food and great staff. The snack bar by the oceanfront pool was good and exactly what you would expect from a snack bar...burgers, wraps, fries etc. We didnt eat at the Italian restaurant so I cant comment on it. Overall the food was good to very good and the wait staff were excellent. The coffee bar had good coffee and was open very early ( maybe 24 hours?). There are 3 pools with 3 swim up bars and a very fun waterslide. The bartenders are a lot of fun and always willing to adjust the strength of your drink according to your taste. The drink menu made ordering easy. Beer choice is limited but hey the Red stripe was a perfect hot weather beer. Raymond and Janice made you feel like you had been regulars for years and just made you feel good while making good drinks! The pools are extremely well maintained with the water tested twice a day and vacuumed every morning. They really are spotless. Another nice thing is the in pool table and chairs and all the different areas were you can relax. The beaches are where some might not be that happy. They are man made and on the smaller side. I usually prefer a more rustic beach (the type most people complain about) My complaint would be the size of the swimming area. I am a strong swimmer and enjoy heading out quite far which wasnt possible hear. The small beach ahs decent snorkeling. That being said I actually ended enjoying the beaches. The water was perfect, you had plenty of lounge chairs, Kerry Ann kept your drinks flowing and there are plenty of life guards to keep people safe. These beaches are not Varadero or Cancun or Negril but they are a great place to relax AND again, they are only a minute form the room! This is not a party resort but there are plenty of activities and the activation staff are fun but not over the top. The included glass bottom boat tour was good and the resort nature walk was way better than I expected. Derron, ( I think that is the correct spelling) a groundskeeper ,gave us a great tour of the plants and trees on the property. He is really knowledgeable and takes obvious pride in his work, the grounds really are beautiful and the tour is well worth taking. We cant really comment on the nightly entertainment ( we are in bed quite early)but what we saw during dinner was quite good. I also heard the piano bar was a lot of fun. We really enjoyed being at this resort. I usually don't remember staff names ( to be honest , I don't remember anyone's name usually)but so many of them left an impression that they are hard to forget. There were several times my wife and I must have looked lost and instantly staff would ask if they could help. The resort is older so some things could use updating , the tables and chairs at the buffet are not fancy and the beach isn't the best beach in the world but honestly none of those things really mattered , the resort does so many things well that it is a wonderful place to come and relax and meet some new friends.

A hidden jewel amongst the resorts

TonyJonesAutoTeacher (Phoenix, Arizona) on Sep 29, 2024

Everything was A+. Jamie-Lee and Rochelle W. are the best in the buffet diner. They made sure I was taken care of from start to finish, with great vibes and all. The walk among the property is very tropical and calming. When you can capture the energy of a staircase, you know it's a great place!!!

Fab holiday

bumpy74 (Didcot, United Kingdom) on Sep 27, 2024

Great relaxing hotel , the rooms were clean and bed comfy , food was generally good , we liked that you only had to reserve the Japanese restaurant which was easy and could walk into the others , daytime activities were fun and everyone was friendly . Great water sports , loved the beach and the glass bottom boat As the hotel was low occupancy when we went some of the nighttime activities were cancelled without explanation and you could never tell which restaurants were open as app want updated . The hotel isn’t as polished as some others but doesn’t take away from the charm of the place . Thanks to Oshane for being excellent at the dinner on the beach , Terri-Anne for any bar from the drinks , Brianna and Gwayne . We all had a fab time

JANICE IS THE BEST GIVE HER A PAY RISE

Emily A on Sep 25, 2024

JANICE IS THE CORNERSTONE!! I had her 10 cocktail ladder and it was delish. She is an amazing bartender and such a great vibe. The whole resort is wonderful with such helpful, wonderful and attentive staff. Nothing seems like too much trouble for them and they’re always so amazing to you. I would vacay here again and again for the premium all inclusive luxury and vibe. Huge thank you to everyone that works here, the atmosphere is relaxing and electric. The food is wonderful, the Italian place and hibachi is 10/10. I would suggest this place again and again to anyone. I will miss you all and I hope to return for more luxury and relaxation.
