Not The Same Hotel We Remember!

N7732QOryanb (San Diego, California) on Apr 24, 2025

We recently stayed at The Westin Rancho Mirage, and while we have stayed here many times, mostly during Coachella, it has changed quite a bit over the last five years. I also believe it was taken over by a... different management company and is no longer run by Marriott. I am also a Bonvoy Gold member. Let's begin with the positives. The grounds are still beautiful, the room is nice and perfectly suitable for a short stay, and the breakfast buffet was delicious. And, for Coachella, the shuttle was awesome and never too crowded. On the other hand, there are some major issues. The hotel, overall, is in dire need of updating. The rooms, while nice, are old and need to be modernized. The adult pool is falling apart--the tables, chairs, and pool were in disarray and dirty. You could see the rusting all around the pool. And, for it being Coachella, there was no effort at all to appeal to festival goers. There was no music--the bartender said the speakers were broken and are supposed to be fixed. They did have a DJ at the main pool, but that's is a whole different story that I will discuss now. The main pool is no longer the beautiful oasis it used to be as it has become overrun with children and seems more like a time share than a luxury resort. The addition of the "arcade/bowling alley" also makes the place more family friendly, which is fine as as that is clearly the target audience now. But, for those traveling without kids, it honestly cheapens the aesthetic, and combined with the pool, makes the entire thing feel like a Six Flags water park. And, when we were given the complimentary Happy Hour drinks, I had a completely different idea of what that was going to be like. Instead of going to a chill bar, it felt like we were at a children's birthday party, and the drinks were warm and cheap-tasting. Again, there were just kids running around everywhere, which felt weird, considering there were tables full of Bud Lights and cocktails. You can't really do both. Finally, considering the price we paid--$2,100 for three days (I understand that it's Coachella pricing), it definitely was not worth that amount. And, they did give us a late checkout till 2, but we wanted to stay till four, and they charged us an extra $20 an hour. Guess, Bonvoy can only do so much. As I said, we used to love this place, and we had some great memories here, but it is far from that idyllic, luxury hotel we remember, and we will most likely not be staying again or recommending it to others.

Disappointing stay!

Anuradha S on Apr 16, 2025

Very disappointing hospitality. We booked two rooms but they only gave us one and had us waiting for an hour past 4 pm for the second one even though it was ready. The wait to check in at registration cou...nter is another big red flag as it took an hour to get through the process. We wasted 3 hours total to check in and get the keys for both the rooms. The restaurants don’t have much choice - especially for vegetarians. The entrees are way overpriced given the quantity they serve. Very limited food options overall - especially if you arrive here with kids. We don’t expect this from a Marriott property.
