Esliani was AWESOME!!!! She was super receptive and tended to us without hesitation. You guys need more like her!!!! She's the main reason we plan on returning very soon. The other employees were good as well, but she went above and beyond our expectations!!!!

40th anniversary

Sharon V on Jul 10, 2024

In June, my husband and I stayed at the Viva V Samana to celebrate our 40th anniversary. Upon arrival the resort is very open and has a unique look that is beautiful and let's you know you are in the Caribbean. Unfortunately check in didn't go perfectly but the staff was helpful, especially our butler Luis. We booked a bungalow and when we got to our room we were not disappointed. The room was large, the bathroom was very modern and lovely, however the hot water could be unreliable sometimes. Our patio was huge with two loungers, two chairs and our own private plunge pool which was used often. We know that with travel not everything goes as hoped so we quickly moved past the slower check in and enjoyed. The layout of the resort was well thought out. The resort is small so everything was close and the views were spectacular. Our favorite views were on the beach which was beyond perfect. First let me say there are lots of lounge chairs and the bar and snack bar are very close. Local music was played at the beach bar which set the mood for the Caribbean sun. If you want to find things to do, the entertainment staff is always around to help. The group is large and always happy. Throughout the morning they have activities planned and you can join or not, completely up to you. The staff was a lot of fun and we enjoyed meeting a few of them and shared a couple of meals with them and got to know them better. Frederica was the first to meet us and we chatted often. Gloria, Uli, Connie, Kiwi and Ariel were all a lot of fun. They work very hard to make your stay a lot of fun so do take time to get to know them, you won't be disappointed. A huge hello to all of these wonderful people. Our Butler, Luis was very friendly, and extremely helpful. He always greeted us with a smile and took time for a chat. Having stayed in a bungalow, we were able to enjoy a private bar in the gardens with Ysmael always ready to help. I have forgotten some of the names but we honestly found all the staff friendly and helpful, we had no problems with anyone. The beach was spectacular, the sand was soft and we enjoyed walks every day. You can walk in both directions for miles safely and you won't regret seeing the views. The ocean was very warm and very few shells or coral, lots if packed, soft sand. We aren't pool people but the large pool was beautiful, with lots of loungers, shade beds and small areas to sit and feel like you had privacy. There isn't a swim up bar so it didn't get loud and the drinking wasn't excessive, being as you walk through the pool area to get to the beach, it was nice not to have the big party atmosphere. The one let down for us was the food. We aren't picky but as this was a special vacation we were hoping for a little better. The buffet was good and honestly some of the better meals were there. The a la cartes were good, not great, nothing special. The staff definitely tried and took pride in their efforts and they should. The food just wasn't five star. I must say there were times it seemed the food was the same, a little more variety would be great. Again, we were not looking for perfection and we were never hungry, just a few tweaks would be great. The variety of fruits was wonderful and the freshly squeezed juices in the morning was a great start to the day. As far as drinks go, the beer is local and my husband enjoys them as they are light. Mixed drinks were plentiful and yes for fellow Canadians they make Caesars. The wine wasn't the best. I'm not a fan of chardonnay and unfortunately that was the only white option. Their sparkling wine was too sweet which is unfortunate as I have had some very nice bubbly wine in the DR, just not this time. We really did enjoy our vacation. We met a lot of people who enjoyed as well and if course the staff was geat. There was one problem that had nothing to do with the staff however. Two days before we left, 400 university graduates from all over, mostly Europe, came to the resort for their end of year trip. Relaxation wasn't the best after they arrived. I completely understand that the resort needs to attract guests during the off season, however this group was so completely opposite from everyone else who was already there it was a bit much at times. No, I'm not picking on them. Coming for meals at the buffet without shirts or shoes or even cover up is not ok. They were pushy, rude and felt very entitled. We were walking on a path one evening, a very well lit path, and I was run into by one of the students. No apology came until we yelled at him. Running past some of the senior guests because they wanted to have water gun fights on the pool deck was bad. Several guests were waiting for the restaurants to open one night and were run into by these kids running into the bathrooms, no ok at all. My view on this was shared by all the other guests we spoke to. No doubt because of the size of this group they received a discount on their trip but that doesn't give them the right to forget manners and common sense. We felt bad for the few other guests who arrived the same day and would be sharing their vacation with them. The likely hood of these kids ever returning is low, unfortunately a lot of people we spoke to said they wouldn't return either because of this. Keep in mind, this resort is adults only and places like this are usually quiet and the guests aren't looking for the party atmosphere. We all paid full price for our vacations, even the staff at the resort were sick of these kids within two days. The messes they left, glasses, spilled drinks and leaving towels everywhere on the beach and by the pool just made the resort look bad and made the staff work harder. Perhaps some thought needs to be had before attracting a group like this again. All in all, our experience was good. As I said the staff was very kind, helpful and friendly. The resort was impeccably clean and you could see the pride in the work. Thank you all for your hard efforts. Just one thing, please remember to tip, they work hard and don't make a lot of money, a dollar goes a long way.
