Horrible Experience
Kellee1 (B.C., Canada) on Nov 15, 2024
I am saddened to write this review, but I also don't want others to spend a lot of money on this resort, when it's not worth it. We have been staying at this resort since it opened, several times a year. There are still staff there that we have known since the beginning. Staff is wonderful. We love them. They are like family. Our last trip was Sept 2023, and we have had a crazy year since that, so we decide we wanted to head to Marival to have a peaceful time out. This was always our second home. This was likely the most we had paid to stay at Marival. But, we really needed the time to reflect on our year. The first couple of days was ok, other than the menus being probably about 1/2 of what they used to be. They actually have the same menus, but have whited out all the dishes that are not available anymore. It's saddening. They have taken pretty much all the seafood and protein dishes off. We were there for 10 nights. The menus were so small and the food that was received was not good. We decided after 2 nights of trying to eat dinner at Omaggio. The first meal wasn't great but, the 2nd one was worse. I had ordered beef, and it was so tough that after attempting 3 cuts of working very hard to cut slices off, I just pushed my meal aside and left it. We decided then that we wouldn't return to that restaurant. That left us Mozza Mare and Insu. We headed to Insu one night and the food was ok, but very limited. So, that left Mozza Mare for the rest of the trip. So, I basically ate fajitas every night before returning home. The first night, the tortilla was so stale, that I couldn't even wrap my fajita as the tortilla wouldn't bend. If you have never been there before, you wouldn't notice the changes in quality. But, we ran into guest after guest that had been going there for many, many years telling us that they will not be back. The new management just doesn't seem to care. They are destroying such a beautiful resort for so many people. We all said the same thing, that we dont even feel welcome anymore. The first couple of days was ok with drink service. We had been at the beach that afternoon. Again, the staff is awesome. My husband had a few Corona Lights, and I drank water or Heiniken 0.0. When we went to the same restaurant that night, my husband was refused Corona Light. The server said, we don't have it. While another staff member was walking by with cans on his tray. This was a situation the rest of the trip. Never knowing if we could get Corona or not. They said, the only thing for beer that he could have was Modelo on tap. They are charging more for the trips and we are getting much less. The last night we went for dinner, again we asked for a Corona Light, and the server seemed to be ok with that, only to return to our table, with a Modelo on tap. He didn't ever say a word. I guess they think they can do whatever to the guests, and get a way with it. Cleaning of the rooms are minimal. They certainly aren't the same clean and fresh rooms that they used to be. Room service was probably the best food we had there. So much inconsistency in food. The resort has the main lobby closed, so check in is now in a guest room. They have the Brunello Bar closed down as well. Pretty major reno's without saying a word on the website when booking. The end of our trip consisted of us being at the spot for transfer to the airport. 15 Minutes after our supposed departure, I approached the concierge to see if they knew anything about our ride, and they knew nothing about it. These transfers are arranged through the resort itself. That concierge then called to the other concierge to see where our ride was. The concierge then came over and told us that they had ordered a cab now, since we weren't on the list for pickup. Then the main concierge appeared and told us never to book the returns through Nexus. I then replied that we don't arrange that. It is all part of the Westjet package. We have no control over who they book us with. Then he reiterated, well I am telling you not to. I replied, well don't worry, we won't be back. We have known this staff member since the beginning. Years ago, he would always welcome us with a hug and a huge smile. Now, he shook his walky talky at us, while telling us not to book through Nexus. Quite a change. But, maybe he has just had enough of this new management. I get it, that they are likely stressed from hearing so many complaints about how things are now, but he did not need to take it out on us. He did not even ask why I had said, we won't be back. During the years, we have brought many new people to the resort, along with a group of 22, for my husbands retirement celebration several years ago. We were always proud to share out experience with friends and family. But, we will not be back. It felt like we were being treated like second class citizens. This business is going to go downhill really fast. This decision to not return was not easy. But, when you feel on pins and needles every moment, it's enough.
Marvellous Marival Distinct

We enjoy the Marival Distinct experience. Became ‘owners’ last December when here with family, and this was our first visit since. We had invited friends to spend one week at Armony and one week at Marival Distinct. However we ended up spending two weeks at Marival Distinct because our confirmed reservation at Armony was not honoured. We were put in The Villas which did not measure up to the suite we had reserved, either in space nor amenities. We returned to Marival Distinct for the second week. Gabino in the front office there was most helpful in eventually getting us into a comfortable suite. Two weeks a little too long with limited restaurant choices. However, we were very happy to be at the beach at Marival Distinct for two weeks. Very helpful attendants Salvatore and Jose making us comfortable in our cabana and great drink service from Victor and Edgar. All the service people are friendly. Many new people ‘in training’, some with experience elsewhere that is evident, thinking of Angel in Mozza Mare. Lemongrass is the best organized and efficient of the restaurants. All have good food. But the breakfast buffet in Omagio could be vastly improved with an omelet station. I look forward to the renovated lobby being open. Stairs are not my friend! All in all a great vacation.
