We are delighted that you have decided to become a WestJetter. We know that joining a new organization can be overwhelming, so we've gathered some information below to help you get started.

Our corporate office consists of Legal and External Affairs, People & Culture, Digital, Commercial, Strategy and Fleet, Cargo, Finance, Procurement and Supply Chain, and Information Technology and some areas of the Operations department.

Next Steps

You've signed your offer letter, what happens next?

Before your start date, your leader will reach out to you to welcome you to the team.  It will look a little bit different for everyone depending on your leader and the area of the business you will be starting in.  Usually this will include:

  • Information about requesting your WestJet ID
  • Maps to Office (if you will be coming into the office on your first day)
  • Welcome Aboard registration information (this is a 3hr session for all new WestJetters)
  • Request for your home address (if shipping hardware from our Information Technology department)
  • A quick overview of your new team
  • And much much more

Items you'll want to discuss with your leader

After you start, you may have questions that your knowledgeable team can assist you with. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • How to book travel
  • WestJet Savings Plan information
  • How to apply for a corporate credit card (if applicable)
  • How to submit expenses (if applicable)
  • Benefits/Payroll timelines and expectations
    • Something of note regarding payroll: Our payroll schedule involves bi-monthly payments, with compensation being issued two weeks in arrears
  • Assistance with setting objectives for the year

Work Environment

The complexities of COVID coupled with the global drive towards a more modern workplace require us to change our mindset on what it means to work onsite. Our work environment has shifted to a hybrid model, with some WestJetters working onsite and others working remotely based on the Mobile Workforce program.

For more details around the Hybrid work, please visit the Mobile Workforce Policy page.

Performance management is an important strategy execution tool at WestJet, through which we ensure our collective efforts are aligned in service of WestJet’s success  - as well as continuously elevating our personal performance. All general band and global leadership team create annual performance objectives, against which they receive ongoing feedback, coaching and a performance review at year-end. New hires in corporate roles (“general band and global leadership team”) have 90 days from their start date to confirm their objectives with their leader. Please speak to your leader to learn more about our performance management cycle.

Together, we'll develop a plan to help you achieve your career goals and provide the opportunity for growth and advancement. If you are an individual contributor, you may be a member of the Technical and Administrative Professional Support (TAPS).

TAPS is the team of peers elected to be the employee representation for 900+ members in non-management roles within WestJet and WestJet Encore’s operations and office support positions. TAPS represent employees in the YYC and YYZ offices, as well as the YYC, YYZ, YEG and YVR hangars.

Your TAPS representatives are here to support you through your employment at WestJet by acting as a conduit between you and the leaders. Our purpose is to ensure employees are treated fairly and address your concerns in a timely manner. We are here to ensure your employee rights are identified and adhered to during the decision-making process or progressive discipline and support you through any of these processes confidentially. TAPS representatives have the relationships in place with your leaders, Business Advisors and the people department to find answers to your questions or direct you to someone who does.
