In recognition of World Pilot’s Day, we celebrate five-year WestJetter and President’s Award winner, Brian Scott,  Training Standards, Encore Flight Operations. Through his care, excellence, consideration and understanding for his colleagues, Brian has established himself as an always reliable resource to crew and leadership.

Amongst his fellow WestJet Encore pilots, Brian is highly regarded and respected for his unwavering dedication to doing what’s right as well as the insight and experience he shares in each of his daily interactions. Every day, Brian shows up as an invaluable asset to his team, while always adapting to change and working together to win.

We sat down with Brian to ask him a few questions about WestJet and what being a President’s Award winner means to him:

Describe WestJet in three words.

Caring, fun, resilient

Where do you see WestJet in the future?

I see WestJet continuing to be the scrappy underdog airline, exceeding in both passenger experience and affordable air travel.

What does winning a WestJet Group Award mean to you?

To be honest, when I was initially presented the award, I was a bit shocked and even had to think for a second “Is there another Brian on our Team?” I feel like this award should go to our whole team. Everything I’ve achieved is a group effort and everyone works hard to deliver the best to our Pilots. I appreciate the recognition and look forward to continuing to work hard to ensure WestJet Encore is the best regional airline in Canada.

What has the last year been like for you?

Our industry was hit hard and as we stood our operations down that meant seeing many colleagues placed on furlough, which was difficult. Thankfully, travel is ramping up and as we bring back our colleagues who have been laid off, it has been very busy being involved with all the re-training and re-qualifications, but this is a great reason to be busy.

What Brian’s leader had to say:

“Brian has been an incredibly reliable professional and valuable member of our Flight Operations team throughout the pandemic,” said Lisa Davis, Vice-President and General Manager, WestJet Encore. “Brian’s commitment to the collective success of his team and WestJet Encore is obvious, every time he shows up for work and I can think of no one more deserving of this honour.”
