This December, WestJet is celebrating its twelfth consecutive WestJet Cares for Kids holiday tradition in partnership with BGC Canada. In advance of the holiday season, WestJet is supporting BGC Canada in purchasing family hampers in 10 communities across Canada. Through this initiative, WestJet will support 100 families from coast-to-coast with gifted holiday hampers made up of groceries, gift cards, gas cards, transit passes, clothing and more.
“Spreading holiday magic is incredibly meaningful to the many WestJetters who make up the fabric of WestJet’s spirit of community,” said April Crane, WestJet, Head of Communications and Community Investment. “Over the last 12 years, this has been exemplified through our cherished, longstanding partnership with BGC Canada as WestJetters have come together to transform the experiences of young people at BGC Clubs across the country.”
From WestJet’s first holiday tradition in 2012, to ramping up celebrations again post-pandemic in 2022, 1,541 WestJet volunteers have created special holiday moments for 33,336 youth across Canada with BCG Canada. In addition to annual holiday celebrations, WestJet has also provided BGC Canada with the gift of flight year-round to help reduce administrative costs and significantly enhance their fundraising efforts.
For more than 120 years, BGC Clubs across Canada have been creating opportunities for millions of Canadian kids and teens. As Canada’s largest child and youth serving charitable and community services organization, BGC Clubs open their doors to young people of all ages and their families at 736 locations nationwide. During out-of-school hours in small and large cities, and rural and Indigenous communities, trained staff and volunteers provide programs and services that help young people realize positive outcomes in self-expression, academics, healthy living, physical activity, job readiness, mental wellness, social development, leadership, and more. Opportunity changes everything. Learn more at bgccan.com and follow @BGCCAN and social media.
“On behalf of WestJet, we are wishing a happy holiday season to all of our WestJet Cares for Kids partners and those they serve, and to all the BGC youth who have continued to inspire all of us at WestJet for 12 years,” concluded Crane.
