Happy Repeat Wis Visitors!

COZTraveler-5X (United States) on Jan 03, 2025

Stayed 9 nights early Dec also this was our 7th visit to El Cozumeleno. Occupancy is light during early December, so buffet isn't always an option however, the menu is always available with lots of option, the food is delicious from buffet and menu!! Snorkeling, minigolf, hammock surfing, relaxing by pool, walk on the beach, plenty of RELAXING activities! Quick taxi ride downtown for food, shopping, taxis are usually waiting at resort. The staff is amazing and deserve mention as they have become our friends! Roberto and Carlos at Guest Services, Martha, Fatima, Omar, Manuel at Check-in desk will always greet you with a smile!! Federico in lobby will help with luggage, taxi, anything else you need! Wait staff at pool/beach/El Cocal buffet area deserve a shout out, Santiago, Aldo, Roger, Paulino, Juan, Manuel, Carlos, Luis, Mateo, Elmer, Jose, Carlos, plus multiple cooks at the grill!! Yaneth and Manuel at La Veranda restaurant are great and the food is amazing! Note: Men remember pants are required. Maria with housekeeping kept our room spotless! Carlos and Jennie at the Spa were great with our massages!! Cesar, Christian, and Entertainment staff provided things to do throughout the day also enjoyed the evening Mayan dancers/Mariachi band/local band show which was by the pool!! Managers Julieta, Antonio, Eugenio are top notch! Also, many other staff that are always cleaning, trimming shrubs, cleaning pools, etc. keeping the resort looking nice! Will see everyone again in December!!

Go elsewhere if you can

This probably would have been a classy resort 25 years ago, and if you are looking for a budget option and aren’t picky about your food, it’s fine. The buffet food presentation in the tiki hut is hard to navigate, with big lids that are hard to maneuver covering everything. They have made to order omelettes in the morning out there that are good, but for a cleaner environment, you can eat pre-cooked breakfast in the dining room with no reservation. If you want to eat dinner there you need to be in line by 7:40 AM each day to make an evening reservation. On New Year’s Eve you need to be there 30 minutes before that. The hotel did a lot of work for a New Year’s Eve party, which went on till 1 AM. The dining room dinner was good, and they really upped the food and presentation in the tiki hut. The pools are frigid and the hot tub is not hot. There’s a decent snorkeling area if you swim out past the pier and head south against the current, and then float back. Some of the staff are super nice and others really don’t care. The room was cleaned every day, which was nice, but the bathroom fixtures and tile are all old and corroded. If you can afford to stay somewhere else, do it.
