Good Family Resort

Mommabokchoy (Edmonton, Canada) on Jul 14, 2024

Rooms - needs a refreshment. Rusting surfaces, stained couches, weak water pressure, mini - fridges that weren't cold, linens smelled musty and not fresh, leaky air conditioner. Activities and entertainment - the resort places priority on daytime activities by the pool. Lots happening, great vibe. In the evening, entertainment was mainly audience led such as karaoke. Gone are the days of performances and shows unless you are willing to pay approximately $100USD for per person for a show. Lots of staff trying to sell you tickets to these shows. Food - Themed nights at the buffets offered good variety. There is something for everyone. Lots of food, most of which are pretty good. We enjoyed it. French a la carte was disappointing, so much so that we went to eat at the buffet after. Italian and Japanese were both very good. You have to book your dinner at check in. Grounds/Wildlife - Lots of wildlife on the resort but the coatis are very invasive and annoying. Not sure if the resort can do something to deter them. Makes for a not so great beach experience as they swarm the burger/snack shack to the point of jumping on your table to grab your food. Otherwise, beautiful, well kept grounds with lots of greenery. Lots of beautiful peacocks and flamingos roaming the resort. Pools - Lots of pools but the main one is huge and wraps around the property so depending on where your lounger is, you might have to do a bit of walking to get to the bar, or washroom etc. Wish there was more smaller walking paths to cut across. Saw a guy go through the pool holding up dry towels because he didn't want to walk all around the pool just to get back to his lounge chair. Also, after day 2 and getting annoyed with the lack of lounge chairs available, we ended up booking a balinese bed for the rest of the week. Best decision ever. Cost varies depending on location but poolside ones are 500mxn which is $42 CAD a day. Worth the added cost and it was nice to not waste any of our vacation time walking around looking for a chair. Staff - All very nice and all very hard working. Resort needs to get rid of the timeshare guys. They are super annoying and pretend to strike up a conversation with you and waste your time. Buggy - no problems waiting for them. You can see the schedule at the lobby and there is a GPS on them so that you can see where it's at. 3 different "lines" depending on where you want to go. Kids Club - our kids didn't love it. Staff are lovely but the activities weren't engaging. Mini chef we thought would be making cookies or something but instead they put some cheese on a tortilla, rolled it up and called it a day. Other - holy smokes the inflation of the items at the resort shops. Someone had mentioned this in their review and I thought maybe it was an exaggeration but it wasn't. $42CAD for Hawaiian Tropic sunscreen, souvenir bracelets were about $25CAD, Pringles $10CAD, $80CAD for flip flops, $50CAD for a regular hat. Our luggage was delayed 2 days and even though the airline would have compensated us to replace essentials, I just couldn't bring myself to buy anything. It's actually ridiculous. Overall, not bad and we'd consider returning because the buffets were good but we also like to visit different hotels.

It is a very beautiful resort to celebrate our honeymoon! a hurricane passed by during our holiday, but the hotel managed very well. Me and my wife would personally thank Carmen the waiter from Trattoire for his excellent service! PERFECT??
