Give the gift of Gold
Give the gift of Gold
Platinum and Gold members can now do more with their milestone awards. By exchanging a milestone award—such as a companion voucher—earned at $6,000 or more1, you can give two gifts of Gold status to friends or family members that can each be used on a round-trip flight2. Now your friends and family can also get more out of their experience when they fly.
With a Gift of Gold voucher, you can give Gold status to another member so they can travel like a Gold member on one round-trip flight, even when not travelling with you. With each eligible milestone award exchanged, you’ll receive two one-time use Gift of Gold vouchers, allowing you to gift Gold status to two different members.
Gift of Gold vouchers will be added as a milestone award option in the future, but Platinum and Gold members can get started now by exchanging available milestone awards already earned for two (2) Gift of Gold vouchers. The following are eligible for exchange:
- A WestJet-wide companion voucher earned at $6,000 in qualifying spend.
- A milestone award (which includes a choice of WestJet-wide companion voucher, four guest lounge vouchers, or six guest advance seat selection vouchers) earned at $8,000 or higher.
- Until December 31, 2021, members who have already selected their award for a milestone award earned at $8,000 or higher but have not used the selected voucher(s) may also exchange the applicable voucher(s) for two Gift of Gold vouchers. In the case of lounge or seat selection vouchers, all vouchers must have been associated to the same milestone award when selected and must not have been redeemed.
All requests to gift Gold status (whether made at the time of exchanging your award or later) must be submitted a minimum of 14 days prior to the recipient’s planned date of travel.
Gift of Gold vouchers and upgrades to Gold will have the same expiry date as the award exchanged. If you have multiple awards of the same type, the first to expire will be exchanged.
A recipient must take their round-trip flight before their Gold status expires. Once the upgrade is processed, the benefits will automatically apply to the recipient’s next round-trip flight and when travel is completed, they’ll return to the applicable tier based on their qualifying spend at that time.
Please make sure you and your Gift of Gold recipients are familiar with the terms and conditions of exchanging an award and gifting and use of Gold status (including details on eligible travel). You can come back to this page anytime by visiting westjet.com/giftofgold.

- All eligible travel taken by the member receiving Gold status must be completed prior to the expiry of their Gold status, which will be the same date as the milestone award used for the exchange.
- There is no limit on the number of available milestone awards that may be exchanged for Gift of Gold vouchers.
- Once a member has submitted a request to exchange a milestone award and/or redeem a Gift of Gold voucher to gift status to another member, the request will be considered final and cannot be cancelled or reversed.
- May only be used as described, has no monetary or other exchange value and is non-transferable.
- Terms and conditions of this benefit are subject to the Program Terms and Conditions at the time of redemption.
2. Terms and conditions for recipient of Gold status
- A Gift of Gold voucher may be redeemed by a Platinum or Gold member to temporarily award WestJet Rewards Gold status and benefits to another WestJet Rewards member currently holding Teal or Silver status; members with current status of Gold or higher are not eligible. If the recipient is not already a member, they must join the program at westjet.com/rewards prior to the submission of the request.
- The request to redeem Gift of Gold vouchers must be submitted at westjet.com/giftofgold by the Platinum or Gold member who holds the vouchers. To redeem a voucher, the member must provide their own account details, along with the first name, last name, 9-digit WestJet Rewards ID and current tier of each recipient receiving Gold status. Please allow up to 14 days for the request to be validated and processed.
- Once the upgrade is approved and processed, the recipient will become a Gold member with the expiry of their Gold status (known as their tier end date) set to the same date as the milestone award used to obtain the Gift of Gold voucher. For greater clarity, if the milestone award used to obtain the Gift of Gold voucher expires on December 31, 2021, the recipient’s tier end date will also be set to December 31, 2021. The recipient will have until the tier end date specified on their account to use the Gold status and benefits on one round-trip flight (as defined below). All travel must be taken and completed by the tier end date and, once completed, the member will return to the applicable tier based on their qualifying spend at that time.
- The recipient of Gift of Gold will be eligible to experience Gold status and benefits on one round-trip WestJet flight, with the following conditions:
- All travel must be on a single reservation/passenger name record (PNR).
- Reservation must be a round trip from a single origin to a single destination, which may consist of two non-stop flights or up to a maximum of four segments when connecting flights are required (maximum two segments on the outbound and two segments on the return). At the member’s choosing, a reservation may also be a one-way trip consisting of one non-stop flight or up to a maximum of two segments when connecting flights are required. If one-way travel is booked, the Gift of Gold will be deemed fully used and the return portion of travel is forfeited.
- All travel must be completed within 30 days of the first flight listed on the reservation/PNR. A reservation will be considered completed once a second flight date has occurred within 30 days of the first flight date (connecting flights that cross over two calendar days will not be considered as separate flight dates) or, in the case of a one-way trip, no additional flights are on the reservation.
- All flights on the reservation must be marketed by WestJet, which are flights with a WS carrier code preceding the flight number. Not valid on partner-marketed itineraries, regardless if WestJet is the operating carrier.
- Member’s 9-digit WestJet Rewards ID must be on the reservation prior to travel. A reservation made prior to the upgrade to the Gold will be considered eligible, as long as the WestJet Rewards ID is on the booking.
- Once an upgrade is processed, the Gold benefits will automatically be applied to the member’s next reservation meeting these conditions. Should a member have more than one upcoming reservation, Gold benefits will be only be applicable to the first reservation; member cannot select a specific reservation.
- Gold status will be retained until eligible travel has been completed (as defined above) or the tier end date is reached, whichever is earlier.
- If the member cancels their first flight and none of the segments on the reservation have been flown, they will retain their Gold status until their next eligible reservation (as defined above) or until the tier end date is reached, whichever is earlier. If one or more segments are flown, they will return to the applicable tier based on their qualifying spend at that time.
- If the member changes their reservation and none of the segments on the reservation are flown, they will retain their Gold status until their next eligible reservation (as defined above) or until the tier end date is reached, whichever is earlier. If one or more segments are flown, they will retain Gold status until satisfying the conditions of a round-trip flight (as defined above) or until the tier end date is reached, whichever is earlier.
- While holding Gold status, the recipient will have access to Gold earn rates and flight benefits, subject to the terms and conditions of each benefit found at westjet.com/gold, but will not receive a Gold welcome kit or personalized bag tags. In some cases (for example, baggage allowance and priority services) the benefit will be automatically extended to others travelling on the same reservation as the recipient, as specified at westjet.com/gold.
- Once a member has requested to redeem a Gift of Gold voucher to gift status to another member, the request will be considered final and cannot be cancelled or reversed.
- May only be used as described, has no monetary or other exchange value and is non-transferable.
- Terms and conditions of this benefit are subject to the Program Terms and Conditions at the time of redemption.
