Definitely not a 5* hotel..

*warning, long review incoming*. We visited Sea Breeze Hotel on our honeymoon, with my wife’s Grandad who married his late wife here over 30 years ago. It was a special trip where we were going to spread ashes in her favourite place in the world. The sentiment was there and we were incredibly excited. Before going, we reached out to the hotel on 2 occasions to speak with them regarding Grandad’s lack of physical mobility (he needs a wheelchair) and need to be near us to care for him, and my severe dairy allergy. Both confidently answered that they could be easily managed. Upon arriving at 3pm (check in time), we were greeted well and staff were really friendly (this is a trend here, majority of staff are absolutely lovely and helpful, a rare few were not). We had 2 rooms, one for Grandad (which was ready) and one for us (which we were told wouldn’t be long). Grandad’s room was in a block on the first floor up, which only had stairs and no lift… not ideal for someone who needs a wheelchair. We then waited for 4 hours, after being told repeatedly ‘it’ll only be 15 minutes’ for our room. When we finally got the room, the key wristbands wouldn’t allow entry. We traipsed 4 times up and down (it doesn’t seem a lot, but after 4 hours of waiting and a long day travelling, it certainly wasn’t needed) before they resolved the problem. When we finally got in, there was no TV remote, the floors were sandy/ dirty and the bathroom window was broken open. It was now 7.30pm and we just made our dinner reservation (the hotel book a table in the buffet restaurant on day of arrival for you), which was 7.30. To say we were underwhelmed would be an understatement. The buffet dinner was mediocre at best, with little choice and food that was clearly sitting there for a while, crumbly, dry and visually unappealing. We hardly ate and retired back to the room, hoping for a new day following. The hotel has the most beautiful location, with ample sun beds and direct access to their own private beach. Water sports are included and the guys down there are brilliant, very friendly and accommodating. A real highlight of our time here. After last night’s food, we were hoping for better. The lunch menu served by the pool was excellent, a great choice and perfect for us. However, on our 3rd day, they changed from the menu to doing an outside buffet which consisted of raw burgers (and I mean completely red inside), sausages, thin steaks and dry chicken and chips being served by a lady who genuinely looked like you were asking for the world when getting something. We asked to use the menu and they said it’s only this… we were really disappointed considering the lunch menu was fabulous. Due to our issues and grandad’s mobility etc, we had asked for him to be moved near to us on day 1. We were incredibly grateful that Matthew, a manager, sorted this and accommodated us with a wheelchair. We thought everything would now be smooth and were very happy! The hotel has 4 restaurants, but rarely are 3 open at the same time. During our stay, we had the choice of basically 2 restaurants every night, one of them being the buffet which we were definitely not going to use. There was always a lack of items on the menu (which didn’t change) and it was never fully stocked. The food in Aqua Terra and Cerulean is good, but for us, there wasn’t a huge range of choice (I do understand that is a personal thing). All was well, until, after declaring a severe dairy allergy and asking for a jacket potato without butter due to said allergy, I was served one dripping in butter. Without making a fuss, I asked for a plain one and duly it came. No problems. Until… the following night I went through the same process, declaring allergy, chef knows etc, and then was served vegetables that had been cooked in butter! I asked the waitress to confirm what the veg had been cooked in, whether it was a type of oil or butter, 20 minutes later, I was told it was butter. As you can imagine, I wasn’t best pleased and proceeded to be sick all night and into the next day due to this. My wife had a meeting with the restaurant manager who apologised, but that isn’t very helpful when I spent a day in my room through illness due to this. (We were given a private dining experience on our last night as an apology, which was appreciated as a gesture). A few key useful points to note: - there are nowhere near enough pool towels for all guests. Trying to get one is a needle in a haystack and when you ask, you’re met with a shrug and a ‘there’ll be some soon’. My advice, take your own towels if you go. - Our room wasn’t cleaned for 2 days straight and when we stated this to the manager, was told it had been cleaned and it had been noted down it was done (even though the previous night manager visited our uncleaned room…). - The best days we had were away from the hotel.. the Boatyard was AMAZING and we swam with turtles in the shallow waters. - The food at Lonestar is a must. We have been to three 5* hotels this year, and this ranks the bottom by a country mile. Of course, this is only our experience, but if I could give any advice to you reading this and deciding whether to go here or not, I think there are far better alternatives for the money you would spend. A shame. A real shame.
Seabreeze delivered on our expectations and service

Stayed at Seabreeze 22nd-26th October in a luxury suite. It takes me a lot to write a review but the hotel surpassed expectations. The room was immaculate and had plenty of space for my family of 4. For me though what made Seabreeze stand out was the incredible staff. From the reception staff, to the waiters, bar staff and guys on the beach organising the water sports everyone was friendly, hard working and all at times went the extra mile to show outstanding service. During the last day the hotel was getting busy due to UK holidays but the staff continued to work extremely hard. The food in the restaurants was great. The highlight for us was a great location with a fabulous beach. With its waves it was perfect for teenagers to spend the day wave jumping and body boarding. We would definitely return.
