Wonderful Family Vacation!
Gail M on May 24, 2025
We had a wonderful vacation with our son, daughter-in-law and 2 granddaughters at Villas Sol Beach Resort. As other reviews have indicated, the resort does need updating. If someone is looking for an ups...cale resort, this one is not for them but if not, the all inclusive price and points used were reasonable and the villa we stayed in was comfortable (3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms) including its own sheltered small pool which we enjoyed in the 34 degree weather. The beds were very firm but we still slept well. We did not have hot running water in our showers but we were offered the option to move to another villa for comfortability. The staff were very friendly and helpful if we had an issue in the villa. Taking the shuttle around the resort is necessary in the heat of the day, but we were able to walk from the restaurant to our villa at times and it was very nice. We really enjoyed our time there including the food, the restaurant and its amazing view, the beach and the staff. My husband and son enjoyed snorkling in the water and using the paddle board at the beach. If you need groceries, there is a grocery store within walking distance of the resort but it is pricy. We were treated to amazing sunsets at the restaurant which overlooks the water. Overall, we had a wonderful, relaxing time enjoying being together with our familyl

Ocean view and very clean. Not too crowded and the staff is amazing. Extremely friendly and helpful. Chef Pedro Reyes is the head chef. We commented on how good the food was and how amazing the dessert...s were. Reminded us of pastries from Italy. Chef Pedro greeted us at the table and explained that he studied in Italy. Chef Pedro was amazing as well as Dayana the server. We ate at the restaurant every day and night. They made our experience one of a kind. Great people, loved our trip to your hotel. And we can’t forget Willy in Security…. amazing and friendly.
Beautiful stay

Our stay at Villas Sol this April was excellent. If you're looking for a 5 star luxury experience this isn't it, but if you want good value for your money and a solid place to stay this is a great place. ...The room was clean and had good air conditioning and hot water every shower, the food was good, and there were enough activities to keep busy. The most impressive thing there was the view and the sunset every night. The second most impressive was the food. I consider myself a bit of a foodie and I was happy with every meal that I had there. There was always delicious fresh fruit in the mornings and super fresh salads at the other meals. Every pasta dish was amazing and all the food was seasoned well. After reading other reviews we had scouted out other places to eat in case we got tired of the food there but in 5 days we ate every meal there and didn't find the need to try anything different. One of the days the chef brought out ceviche that was delicious. Drinks were also plentiful and good but they are serious about no alcohol being served before 11am. Two of the days we saw howler monkeys in the trees at the beach entrance and two days we spotted a monkey in the trees between our room and the pool in the evening. The snorkeling was pretty decent at the rocks to the right when you get to the beach, but choose a still day. We saw a few lobsters, a group of puffer fish and a bunch of other pretty little fish.
Villa Sol - A complete review of a great experience

My family and I stayed at the Villa Sol resort in March 2025. The resort is a bit dated but has a tremendous amount of character. I'll do my best to categorize the review for anyone looking for something g... specific: Accomodations: We had a basic 2 bed room. We had no issues with the accodations. AC worked great, staff were friendly always willing to help and on time for cleaning etc. Note that the bathroom contains only shampoo. We had to buy our own soap at a mini market. Also there is a ice bucket in your room but you will need to go to the restaurant or bar to get ice. Pending the location of your villa, you may need to get a shuttle to bring you there so be aware of that. All water on the resort is potable and safe to drink. Just wanted to include that too. Food: We did not choose to have the all inclusive package. I cannot provide a review of the main dining buffet but when I did talk to guests they said it was okay. The breakfast offered by the resort was good. 3.5 /5. The food here included costa rica items like pinto gallo ( rice and beans), fried plantains, fried or mashed yuca, potatoes hashbrowns, and sausage. There is an omlette station which made fantastic eggs and omlettes. There is also a great variety of fresh fruit, breads and cereal (yogurt too). The resort also made fresh juice from the various fruits for breakfast. With the heat, we did fine that the bread could get a little stale but given it's 35-37 celcious it's kinda expected. Beach 4/5 We found the beach great. Smooth sand and not crowded at all! Great place for a morning gnor evening swim. For families with little kids. There is no lifeguard or activities for children at the beach. My son kept himself busy building sandcastles and swimming but one thing to also note is that there is no beach umbrellas here. So your in the sun for quite a period of time. We brought a test with us that we got off amazon. Cheap pop up one. Kept the sun out at peak times but we did still find it hot. Would recommend to the resort to develop more shaded areas for guests. Restaurants nearby There are many resorts all sharing a strip of beach. Each resort has a restaurant on the beach. I do have to say that many guests were very impressed by the seafood here st the Villa sol beach restaurant. I cannot remember the name it's likely on Google. We heard that the restaurant was hands down none of the best on this strip. Pricing is about ranges from 25 to 50 USD pending on what meal and drinks you choose. There are cheaper options available but the main entrees here were within this range. I do have to give a special review to a restaurant just outside the entery /exit of the Villa Sol resort. It is very new and it is literally across the road from the resort entry. It's called Coco Visquez. It's a small restaurant that makes homemade costa rican food. As of March 2025. The buffet (not all you can eat) was $11 USD and you choose what you want on your plate. The amount of food you receive for the price point is an amazing value! I ordere alot of entrees from the menu too. All were amazing! As a family from Canada, We had 1 meal at Villa Sol when we first checked in. We tried this place on the evening of day 1, we ate here every meal since. The food was crazy good. I met a young man Sebastian and his Parents who run the place. They treated us like family and the food omg amazing. Check it out on Instagram. I dont want to deter from our Villa Sol experience. Grocery Store / Mini Markets nearby: We did find a mini market close to the Villa Sol. It's about a 15 to 20 walk down the main street. Literally just straight down. Good price on beer, sunscreen etc. Would recommend buy there and stock up the mini fridge. Shuttle We arranged a shuttle to and from the airport using a vendor at the airport. The Villa sol also provides this service but I cannot provide a review of this. Tours / Excursions As mentioned above, the resort shares a strip of beach with other hotels. It seems that each resort has a different vendor that you can book tour packages through. We booked 2 tours for a family of 3 and it was approx $1000 CDN. We chose to book with a company called Costa Rica Unique. They wore blue shirts. Ask for Inaki! He was very friendly, helped us with picking the tours right for us and didn't rip us off on the price. I would recommend him 100% every time all the time! I hope this helps anyone going to Costca Rica and the Villa Sol. We will definitely be coming back!
I had a wonderful stay at this hotel!

I had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The reception and housekeeping staff were incredibly welcoming, friendly, and always ready to help with anything I needed. Their professionalism and warm attitude made... me feel right at home. The view from the hotel was absolutely stunning—waking up to such a beautiful landscape each day was truly a highlight of my stay. It’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy the surroundings. If I could suggest one thing for improvement, it would be to offer a bit more variety in the food options. While the meals were good, a wider selection would make the dining experience even better. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel and would definitely return!
