Good place to relax

KimW199 (Chestermere, Canada) on Nov 12, 2024

The beach was wonderful. I loved how shallow and calm it was which enabled this non-swimmer to go out quite far. It wasn't too busy that you couldn't find a place to spend the day. They have a couple different areas of beach too. Our room was good (tower poolview) - a/c was working very well to the point that we had to turn it off quite often or freeze ourselves out lol. We did ask for a blanket as they did not have one in the room. Don't expect a steady stream of hot water in the shower but it does work. The staff were mostly very friendly and welcoming. The food - um that's a tough one. We found that the choices at each meal were the same - same breakfast offerings, same lunch offerings and same dinner offerings. We managed to find enough to eat but it could be so much better. Also they don't really have a "snackbar". Having access to snack type foods can be very important for those with medical issues i.e. diabetes. We did the Italian twice (quite nice) and paid for the seafood (Chatham) once and it was good too. Don't expect foodie quality and you'll be ok. It was a great vacation and we did a lot of relaxing which is as it should be.

Place lovely, food terrible

This hotel gets some bits right and others really wrong. First time in Montego Bay and was disappointed by the place. Everyone wants dollars and lots of them. The hotel is very nicely presented, old colonial style and very clean. The staff are generally very friendly and work hard. The beach is beautiful and sea really clear. The bad bit. The food in the main restaurant is awful. Everything massively over cooked and generally inedible. Breakfast is either curry or liver, very little other choice. When the omelette man appears he makes a great omelette, pretty much the only edible thing to emerge. The beach bar do nice burgers and chicken but, alas close at 1730hrs, so no evening alternative. The Italian which you get 1 visit per trip was pretty good. I would not return but only because of the food.
