Third time staying...not sure if I would go back

Left_on_a_jet_plane (Toronto, Ontario) on Sep 01, 2024

This was our third time at the hotel, the first with the kids. The room we initially got was super tiny. The bathroom could only have one person in it, the toilet didn't flush and it was too small for all of us. With the price of what we were paying a night, I expected way more. I went downstairs and complained and we were offered a Jr. Suite at a reduced price which was fantastic! The staff were very nice and accommodating. The concierge was extremely helpful and gave great advice on how to get around the City. It was very clean and we went to the cafe which was reasonably priced. Unfortunately we were there the first day of the strike but Management did try their best to help us with whatever we needed and security was brought in at night to ensure the guests were safe. I think they must have renovated since the last time I was there and I didn't care for the decor. Very 60s inspired. I don't know how you can go to sleep with a bright red/purple background over the bed. Not very calming. Wish they would have kept it in the old style which was more traditional. The king bed was very comfortable, the pull out Queen, not so much. I just think that for the price we paid (and it was a busy weekend with students going back to school), we should have had a better room without having to pay extra (even though it was reduced). I've stayed in less luxe hotels that had bigger rooms and washrooms.

Terrible Experience at Fairmont the Queen Elizabeth

Khaled M (Englewood, New Jersey) on Aug 23, 2024

Was excited to come stay at this hotel due to the great reviews and the great location, unfortunately I had one of the worst hotel experiences that I have ever experienced and will not be staying at this property or any property owned by Fairmont again. To preface, my stay happened to coincide with a strike unfortunately, but that is not what I will be complaining about. The strike did limit access to the hotel to the side door only and had all of the restaurants closed for all days except for the last of my stay. Upon checking in we asked for a crib for our infant which they said they would send to the room right away. We had also requested this upon booking. We still did not get the crib even after an hour, so we called the front desk to inquire. They had denied hearing about the crib and eventually had it delivered around 15 minutes later. When we first entered the room, the toilet seat had a poop smear and was clearly not fully cleaned. The windowsill was also quite dusty, which was disappointing for a hotel of this caliber. Otherwise, the room was nice and the view fantastic. We returned later that night and found that our hotel room and many of the rooms on the floor did not have power. I had to go down to the front desk to inquire about this, to which I was told that there was a storm and most of the city did not have power. This was in fact incorrect since even the lobby and many other floors had power. My issue with this was that there was no indication that the problem was acknowledged or being worked on. Usually even in a lower tier hotel a note would be passed around to the effected rooms, or a sign would be clearly visible in the lobby upon entry. We finally got the power back a few hours after midnight. The next morning, we noticed a massive leak coming from the air conditioning unit. We immediately called the front desk, and they said they would send someone upstairs to which I gave them permission to enter if I was not there. My family left for the morning and returned in the early afternoon. Nothing had been done. I again called the front desk who denied ever getting a notification that there was an issue. 30 minutes later a technician came up and said we had to switch rooms. Thankfully we were moved to the same room, type two floors up. Overall, the lack of customer service, uncleanliness upon check-in, never once having the room turned over the whole stay (3 nights), and never getting something as simple as an apology or acknowledgement of these inconveniences are the reasons I am giving this establishment such a low score. The whole experience was so off-putting, especially since we had paid so much for the stay. Do yourself a favor and book any other hotel in the city and stay away from any of the Fairmont properties.
