Sandals, you can do better!

First, let me say the resort is lovely and so is the beach. This is also the first time we've been to a Sandals and will most likely be our last. I'm surprised people keep coming back to these properties... when there is so many wonderful places to go in the world. But of course for shy travelers it is easy. Here's what we liked: The room and property. They guys in the dive shop were awesome and very helpful even though I got the feeling they don't take their clientel any further than the so called reefs just off the beach. All of our boat rides to the sites were around 5 minutes. We also had some lovely meals - especially liked Barefoot. The bartenders were generally non -existence. Most places where we are staying for almost a week the bartenders know your name and what you want to drink after the first night. Maybe this is because there is no tipping so there is no reason to give top notch service. My biggest issue was where our room was. When I booked our room I requested that we have a beachfront room away from the restaurants and bars because we didn't want to be kept up all night. You can imagine my surprise when we got to our room and right in front of our room they were building a stage for the New Year's Eve celebration. Our first night we were kept up ALL night by hammering, sawing, talking and trucks coming and going. Then NYE the music started at 6:00 pm and ended at 1:00 a.m. The music was so loud that the pictures were banging against the walls and our bed was vibrating. I went to the office 12/31 to see if there was anything they could do for us. Changing our room was not an option because they were full and if they did we'd have to repack and our room would've overlooked the road AND WE PAID for beachfront. The young guy who was helping me said I could talk to the manager but it would be a 15-20 minute wait because she was helping someone else. So I waited in her office. Sat there for 20 minutes while she talked with various staff; she never acknowledged me and finally I left. I would've thought when they realized that they had customers by the stage they would've either offered to upgrade them or give those two nights of us being disturbed for free. Customers shouldn't have to ask especially when building a stage in front a customer rooms is so obvious to see. The other thing that bothered us was it felt like we were at a place where they were selling time shares. A guy stopped me in the hall twice saying hey I haven't talked to you about your next vacation. I understand that is his job but I told him upfront this was a one and one. We only choose Sandals because we felt it was a safe place to stay being in Jamacia. I told him I had a list of places in the world to see and there weren't Sandals in those places - China, Bali, Antarctica, Chile, Madagascar, Sri Lanka and the Seychelles. He just looked at me like I was BSing him. But to top it off he called our room and said - are you serious, you aren't doing another Sandals. Nope! So again while the property and location is lovely there are improvements that could be made especially guest accommodations in the case of parties. Thank you

Our stay was lovely! Chris at the piano bar was outstanding! He really brought his professionalism as a staff member as well as his experienced mixology knowledge to the cocktail bar! We truly looked forw...ard to seeing him! Best Vartendar!!
