Perfect location, friendly staff and a great value

Kelly I (New York City, New York) on Apr 06, 2025

We stayed at Tropicana for 6 nights during a trip to Disneyland/California Adventure. Overall, it was a great value for the price. Tropicana is a Disney Good Neighbor hotel. Our room was clean and comfort...able, and we felt safe there. Best of all, you're across the street from the Disneyland entrance, which is a big bonus. We could easily return to the hotel mid-day to drop off souvenirs, rest or freshen up as needed. We checked in late in the evening since our incoming flight was delayed, and the front desk staff was very helpful and accommodating. As an unexpected perk, we were able to watch some of the Disneyland park castle fireworks from the walkway outside our room (our room was toward the front of the property). Tropicana does not offer a buffet or grab and go breakfast, but the hotel store (The Cove on Harbor) across from the lobby offers convenience foods and snacks, including hot coffee, pints of milk and a surprisingly wide variety of single-serving breakfast cereals, along with plastic silverware. We picked up these items each day for a quick breakfast in our room before heading to the parks. (For those of you who would like a drink after a long day at the parks, The Cove also sells cold beer and other alcoholic beverages.) A refrigerator is provided in the room. Daily housekeeping is limited to emptying the trash and providing fresh towels as needed. Full service housekeeping is provided every third day of your stay. We felt this was sufficient for us. A small, clean laundry room with dryers and nice, newer front-load washers (we used them during our visit) is also available. Detergent and dryer sheets can be purchased at The Cove. The only minor issue was that our room had a gap of at least half an inch under the door (although I honestly didn't notice it until a couple days into our stay). We never saw any spiders or insects in the room, but I could see this being a possibility in the warmer/drier seasons, since the rooms open to the outside. It's possible our room simply needed replacement weather stripping/door sweep. At any rate, this wasn't a big enough deal to impact our stay.

Adequate & No frills. Great location.

Lauren L (Mandeville, Louisiana) on Mar 05, 2025

I just returned from a 4 night stay with 2 of my sons. I booked the Tropicana based on the proximity to Disneyland as well as an impressively high score from a very prolific and reputable theme park blog. ...The good news is, the location REALLY IS that amazing. The bad news is, if I had to use one word to describe this hotel when considering everything except the location, that word would be “underwhelming.” When I say this is a bare-bones, no-frills motel (yes motel- this is a motel, not a hotel), I mean it. There is not one thing about the room or grounds that is above average. This motel is adequate and that’s it. It’s clean enough, but definitely not pristine. The mattresses are not super comfortable but not the worst. The TVs are without smart capabilities so it’s a chore to find something to watch. The cars are parked right up next to the rooms so there are often people right outside your room. (We brought sound machine for night time and it helped tremendously!) The bathroom is a very standard small tub/shower combo. The maids came to deliver towels but there was no sheet changing, cleaning or trash service. The toiletries provided were a wall-mount body wash and a wall mount “conditioning shampoo” so not even separate conditioner, and there was one small bar of soap provided for 4 nights. There were no extra things like tissues, cotton balls, etc. Just the bare minimum. No USB outlets. The floors are carpeted and the walls are cinder block. I’ve stayed at MANY hotels and motels and this is basically a Motel 6 or Laquinta with a different name. There was a small fridge and a microwave, though. Now, if you’ve read this and are thinking “well, who cares? We will be at the park all day anyway!” Then that’s PERFECT. You will be fine! That’s basically what I decided after spending one night. I called Disney to see if we could be switched and the only other option was a $1300 up charge so I decided we’d save the money/spend it on park food and fun. But if you are the type who likes the hotel experience just as much as the park experience, then this place is NOT for you. Would I stay here again? No, unless it was the only option within close proximity. I’d exhaust every other option, even if more expensive. I was super excited to stay here and it was just a bit of a letdown. The walk to the parks, though, was A BREEZE. I wish I could list more positives!

Location is the only reason to stay

Renee R on Feb 09, 2025

I am at the Tropicana now. The only reason, in my opinion, to stay at the Tropicana is the location to Disneyland. I am a senior with a cane and can walk from my room to the security at Disney in less than... 10 minutes. Most would be able to do it in 5 minutes! The only other positive I found was the friendliness of the staff. I got here early expecting to have them store my luggage. But they were able to get me in a room, and they were very nice about it. In addition, I had to change my reservation, and they were very accommodating in doing that. The negatives: The walls are paper thin. You can hear conversations in the rooms next to you. In addition. people start getting ready to go do Disneyland at like 5 am, and they are outside the door of the rooms talking at full volume. With the park closing at midnight, you then have people coming back and also talking at full volume at that time too. Also, the car alarm beeps (locking / unlocking car) go off a lot. Honestly, I am NOT a light sleeper, and I was woken up multiple times. The room is not clean. I attached two pictures. There was a large hair blob on my pillow. And pieces of dirt on the carpet. There was some in the bathroom too, but lighter floor so hard to take photos. There is no heater / air conditioner control in your room. I am alway cold, and the first night, I folded over the comforter on the bed and pulled out the one thin extra blanket they provided. You can of course, ask for additional blankets, but pretty unusual to not be able to adjust your own room temperature in a $200+ room! Bottom line, if you can deal with talking and car noises and less than truly clean rooms, then staying at the Tropicana will get you to Disneyland in under 10 minutes! Otherwise, I would recommend another hotel.

Maids that steal

Adventure49128831122 on Feb 04, 2025

My sister and I went to the Tropicana January 16 through the 21st. We have stayed at this hotel many times and have enjoyed the convenience, the room, and the pool however, this last visit I was very disap...pointed because I had some earrings stolen out of my room, they weren’t in a suitcase like they should have been they were out on the bathroom counter Amongst other earrings. I didn’t realize until I got home that this pair of earrings was stolen. I called the hotel and talked to Patrick. I wanted him to talk to the maids that were in charge of our room for those dates. I never heard anything back. I wasn’t expecting the maid to come forward with my earrings, but it just made me really skeptical. If I ever wanted to stay there again that I couldn’t trust stuff in our room so just be aware of that otherwise it’s a pretty good place..

My family is covered in bug bites

Teresa G on Jan 10, 2025

I had an extremely unpleasant stay at Tropicana. After my first night, I woke up itching on my back, and my children had itchy legs. We assumed it was from the LA water and dealt with it. Turns out we had ...been completely attacked by bugs of some type. Once we realized they were bug bites, we were on the trip home already. I immediately called Tropicana and brought this to the staff’s attention, hoping they would address the issue with urgency and care. Unfortunately, their response was dismissive, offering no apology or effort to make the situation right. It was clear they didn’t prioritize guest comfort or cleanliness. The lack of empathy and action was shocking, and it made my experience with them disappointing and stressful. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone and strongly urge management to address their pest control and customer service issues. I didn’t want to have to write this review, and have tried for the last week to give the hotel management the opportunity to make it right, but they couldn’t even call me back and it took them 4 days and 2 emails to get a short response lacking apology or empathy. A week later, I am still suffering from the bug bites that my doctor assumes are from a type of flea or bed bug. The hotel claims their staff didn’t find any bed bugs, I would have hoped they would have used a professional pest company to inspect and treat but they did not. So beware…we paid $2400 and may have brought these pests home with us and Tropicana could not care less.
