Adequate & No frills. Great location.

I just returned from a 4 night stay with 2 of my sons. I booked the Tropicana based on the proximity to Disneyland as well as an impressively high score from a very prolific and reputable theme park blog. ...The good news is, the location REALLY IS that amazing. The bad news is, if I had to use one word to describe this hotel when considering everything except the location, that word would be “underwhelming.” When I say this is a bare-bones, no-frills motel (yes motel- this is a motel, not a hotel), I mean it. There is not one thing about the room or grounds that is above average. This motel is adequate and that’s it. It’s clean enough, but definitely not pristine. The mattresses are not super comfortable but not the worst. The TVs are without smart capabilities so it’s a chore to find something to watch. The cars are parked right up next to the rooms so there are often people right outside your room. (We brought sound machine for night time and it helped tremendously!) The bathroom is a very standard small tub/shower combo. The maids came to deliver towels but there was no sheet changing, cleaning or trash service. The toiletries provided were a wall-mount body wash and a wall mount “conditioning shampoo” so not even separate conditioner, and there was one small bar of soap provided for 4 nights. There were no extra things like tissues, cotton balls, etc. Just the bare minimum. No USB outlets. The floors are carpeted and the walls are cinder block. I’ve stayed at MANY hotels and motels and this is basically a Motel 6 or Laquinta with a different name. There was a small fridge and a microwave, though. Now, if you’ve read this and are thinking “well, who cares? We will be at the park all day anyway!” Then that’s PERFECT. You will be fine! That’s basically what I decided after spending one night. I called Disney to see if we could be switched and the only other option was a $1300 up charge so I decided we’d save the money/spend it on park food and fun. But if you are the type who likes the hotel experience just as much as the park experience, then this place is NOT for you. Would I stay here again? No, unless it was the only option within close proximity. I’d exhaust every other option, even if more expensive. I was super excited to stay here and it was just a bit of a letdown. The walk to the parks, though, was A BREEZE. I wish I could list more positives!
Location is the only reason to stay

I am at the Tropicana now. The only reason, in my opinion, to stay at the Tropicana is the location to Disneyland. I am a senior with a cane and can walk from my room to the security at Disney in less than... 10 minutes. Most would be able to do it in 5 minutes! The only other positive I found was the friendliness of the staff. I got here early expecting to have them store my luggage. But they were able to get me in a room, and they were very nice about it. In addition, I had to change my reservation, and they were very accommodating in doing that. The negatives: The walls are paper thin. You can hear conversations in the rooms next to you. In addition. people start getting ready to go do Disneyland at like 5 am, and they are outside the door of the rooms talking at full volume. With the park closing at midnight, you then have people coming back and also talking at full volume at that time too. Also, the car alarm beeps (locking / unlocking car) go off a lot. Honestly, I am NOT a light sleeper, and I was woken up multiple times. The room is not clean. I attached two pictures. There was a large hair blob on my pillow. And pieces of dirt on the carpet. There was some in the bathroom too, but lighter floor so hard to take photos. There is no heater / air conditioner control in your room. I am alway cold, and the first night, I folded over the comforter on the bed and pulled out the one thin extra blanket they provided. You can of course, ask for additional blankets, but pretty unusual to not be able to adjust your own room temperature in a $200+ room! Bottom line, if you can deal with talking and car noises and less than truly clean rooms, then staying at the Tropicana will get you to Disneyland in under 10 minutes! Otherwise, I would recommend another hotel.
