Perfect for our family!!!

We absolutely loved our stay at Poly. I stayed with my 80 yr old dad and my two children age 20 and 27. We were in the Tonga building right next to the main building with the restaurants and monorail station. We enjoyed morning pastries and drinks as well as evening desserts in Tonga's upstairs Club Lounge. So convenient to have easy snack options without having to go far. On one occasion we went to the parks around 9am instead of our usual rope drop scenario and went to the larger Club Lounge in Hawaii. Breakfast that day was sausage, potatoes, ham and cheese fritattas, and more. They also had a selection of yogurts, fresh fruit, oatmeal, cereals, and pastries. The white chocolate macadamia muffins were magnificent. (I may have eaten more than one). We also had dinner in Hawaii on two occasions and it was delicious. There was shrimp and chicken wellington as well as several Polynesian items. I highly recommend this lounge. The staff was helpful and did everything to make our experience a good one. We adored the concierges in Tonga so much. They did so much to help us really get the most out of the experience. One night they even had chicken nuggets which made my picky eater very happy. Captain Cook's is also quick and easy to grab items for the kids. The vibe of this resort is just perfect It felt like a luxury version of the tv show Survivor. The Tiki torches and waterfalls with lush greenery were absolutely gorgeous. Honestly, I don't know if I will ever stay anywhere else in the future. There is water transportation to MK as well as Monorail. We also walked to the TTC to catch the direct monorail to Epcot which saves you about 20-30 minutes in transportation time. The bus to HS is efficient and the bus to AK is not bad either. Do not rely on the times that your MDE app tells you the bus will arrive. The bus came early each time I used it. I did not get to use the pools, but they looked amazing. It was a cold snap with Dec. highs of low 50's so we missed out on this. I can't wait to go in the fall or spring when the weather is more typical of Florida. As for restaurants, we did not get to experience the famous O'Hana. I tried for months to get a reservation and could not. I'm sure the Club Concierge could have helped with that, but we were just in the parks too much to have a spare time slot. It looked beautiful and I know the food was good because people talked about it constantly. Trader Sams is a night spot/bar that everyone raves about and is EXTREMELY hard to get into. I heard someone ask at 5pm and they were full for the rest of the evening. So I advise you to inquire early in the day. I can't say enough about this little slice of paradise. Spend the money and get a Disney vacation that feels like a tropical dream!

First time staying at the Polynesian resort to celebrate the 50th anniversary in style.

Yes, as many have mentioned the resort is very expensive however that’s to be expected nowadays. It is a Disney resort after all, on the door step of the most famous and popular theme park in the world it’s going to cost you unfortunately. If it’s worth? That is simply down to the individual weighing up the pros and cons. The resort itself blends the tiki vibe and the Disney elements really well and manages to find the perfect balance between the two. I had heard many things prior to our arrival from friends and from reviews however from my personal opinion I thought the resort was great. We had booked a ten night stay, six nights at the Polynesian and four Nights at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Before arriving we had it in our heads that the lodge with the savanna view overlooking the animals would be our favourite but we were wrong! The Polynesian was amazing and better than we could have imagined it. The vibe walking into the main building was very laid back and chilled, you have the lit tiki touches and the little waterfalls either side and when we walked into the foyer we were warmly greeted and given our lei (They did state that they were no longer putting them on for guests due to the pandemic but encouraged us to put each others on in keeping with tradition) The staff were very friendly and welcoming constantly saying Aloha every time a cast member past you by or saw you in their eye line. They seemed very knowledgeable when called upon they were able to find answers very quickly to any questions we had for them about the Polynesian/ Parks/ other hotels and restaurants. We were informed that the room wasn’t ready which was a little disappointing as it was around 5:00pm when checking in but we dropped our bags off which was easy enough and had a little walk around the resort and within 30 minutes the room was ready and our luggage was brought to the room within a few minutes of that. We had a standard room looking over the monorail on the second floor. We found it charming and actually liked the view due to the flowers, grass and trees that were positioned outside the buildings in addition to the ones decorated around the resort. The rooms themselves are big and spacious especially for a couple. The rooms were cleaned every other day and plenty of towels for two people to last between room cleaning. The resort for 50 looks very good and modern. Speaking of the monorail, it’s amazing! This is probably one of the biggest pros of this resort, It’s so convenient and such a quick way to get to MK or it’s a 5 to 10 minute walk to TTC where you can catch a 10 minute monorail to EPCOT. It is also a great way to get to the Grand Floridian or Contemporary Resort if you wanted to go monorail resort bar hopping ‘which I would definitely recommend), explore a different hotel restaurant or just a change of scenery. We tested it out and for a full circle from Poly and back again it only takes around 15 minutes meaning you have a very wide variety of two other hotels and a theme park within such a short distance. This is probably one of the reasons for the high price but if you’re staying here you need to take advantage to make it worth it. For reference the Animal Kingdom Lodge is so far out of the way for the animals that you have to get a bus to everywhere even Animal Kingdom and a bus to Magic Kingdom can take an age, like almost an hour after waiting in a long queue with other guests. The boat to the MK is very relaxing and you get to see the full scale of the resort as well as a more magic view of the approaching Magic Kingdom. The buses to the other parks were ok, times were roughly about 10 Minutes off the scheduled time which is manageable but it does feel as a whole like a massive downgrade compared to the boat and monorail. The beach is a great place to watch the fireworks while sitting on a deck chair as they pump the music in from the park and see the sky lights up. Plus you get to see the the light parade before they start which is ok but don’t stress if you miss out on this part it’s a nice extra but not essential. Trader Sam’s is probably the best lounge bar on Disney property full stop, it’s engaging charming and lots of fun. However it’s loud and has flashing lights and a few water surprises so if you are after a relaxing or quiet drink then this won’t be the place for that. The outside terrace does the same drinks and may have the relaxing feel you’re after. I’d advise going closer to when the bar opens if you want to do Trader Sam’s as it’s very small and is hugely popular with people from all over the Disney resort visiting so you may have to wait an hour or two once you have your name down. Something that goes under the radar is Capt. Cooks, they serve a full menu (Granted the menu is small to start with) until close which is really late like 00:00 which is not the same for most if not all the other quick service restaurants in the Disney hotels. Meaning you can grab a light bite after hitting the parks upon your return. Again this was not the case for places such as the Animal Kingdom Lodge’s The Mare who change their menu after 8:00pm to flatbreads only and then they still close earlier than capt cooks. All the drink locations and restaurants are also conveniently located in the main building along with all other offerings at the resort, meaning everything is in close vicinity and you don’t have to go far to find anything or get lost wondering around the resort looking for something. Ohanna for dinner/tea was ok, it’s expensive for what you get and the food wasn’t amazing but wasn’t dreadful. You informed that anything you want more, just ask and they will bring extra. The bread budding and caramel sauce was the highlight though I have to point out and went well with the ambience of the ukulele music being played by a man walking through the restaurant softly singing along to Disney songs Polynesian style. The breakfast would be the star here though, we did Cinderellas Royal table/ Boma/ Grand Floridian cafe/ Tusker House and Garden Grill but Ohanna breakfast was the best. They are all very similar but the Polynesian touch tips it for us. We managed to get a reservation quite easily for it too via the app. Reservations do come and go but if you check the day before you’re more likely to get one (you have to cancel a reservation no later than 24 hours before or you are charged if you don’t turn up) we found at most places parks and hotels you could get a reservation the day before because people who held one were cancelling to avoid charges, it did require a little searching and being flexible at times but plenty of places in the area. On check out the luggage staff were great and made sure our bags were safely transported to the Animal kingdom Lodge. There are a few negatives such as the current construction work at the resort which will result in more DVC rooms which I do feel may have a negative impact on the resort. Due to everything being close by in the main building it gives the impression of it busy at all times of the day, mainly you find a lot of guest are not staying at the resort but wish to use the facilities which is fair but can make it feel crowded at times. The walls are thin and we heard a lot of noise in the mornings and at the night times from the neighbours arguing. It’s also a shame there’s no dinner show anymore as that was something we feel this resort was missing. A little slice of Polynesian entertainment like Tahitian or Hula dancing would not have gone a miss. Hopefully they find a way to bring that kinda experience back. I believe this resort isn’t every going to be universally loved and different people will have different experiences at this resort and many factors will depend if it’s right for you. If you don’t plan on utilising the hotel facilities or don’t have many days planned at MK then this may not be for you but from our stay we can only say that this was an experience we won’t forgot for a while and we fully enjoyed every moment.
