Absolute MISS!

Steve R (Vancouver) on Nov 07, 2024

This property is a complete miss! I came here to get some R&R and I've got the complete OPPOSITE of that. Staying in one of the "cottages" to start. The walls are completely thin. I've been up at 6AM every f'in morning hearing slams, staff wheeling crap back and forth, gardeners outside my door watering gardens at 6AM!!!! The shower in the room only half works. Only the overhead works and the water pressure is the same as if I was camping in a portable shower. Ordered coffee to be delivered twice, never came. The first time through the app, confirmed, nobody came. The second via phone call, I received a knock at the door a hour later than ordered, from "house keeping" with some cups and sugar??? Wtf! The menu is the same everywhere throughout the property. The food is meh, at BEST. I ordered a simple Ceasar Salad. It came with almost zero dressing, no cheese whatsoever. It was essentially chopped romaine with tomatoes??? Tomatoes...it's a Ceasar Salad!! Then I tried the chicken sandwich. Basically a sheet of batter in a bun with a bit of coleslaw in it and a ton of fries. I can get better at Denny's. I was told my turndown service would be affected because they are at a high capacity. Comes to turn out that there are 2 large conventions booked in, which coincidentally I was not told about when booking. These conventions have been booked in here for quite sometime. I booked in here a week ago. So I not only should've been told and given an option to go somewhere else, but MY service levels should not affected because you haven't staffed accordingly, knowing well in advance what was coming. Completely unacceptable. I don't have the heart to share this with my wife as it will devastate her as we are here celebrating a special occasion. I've said nothing to her. She will read this now though. The only saving grace of this property is the staff at The Citrus Club. Incredible service and attention to their patrons. Unfortunately, this cannot save this poorly run property. Perhaps it's time for someone from the club to be promoted and implement some of that hospitality to the rest of the property. I'd be embarrassed to put this type of experience out to my customers on a daily basis!

Great update to a classic resort

puck021 (Minneapolis, Minnesota) on Nov 07, 2024

The remodel of this place turned a cool aging hotel into a real stunner. Everything shines with golden tones, cool architectural bricks, stained glass, cool art work and beautiful grounds. The pools are open 24-7 and give you a great variety of options from giant slides to an adults only area. My room was on the 4th floor in the Paradise wing with a view of the pool. The room was beautiful with nice amenities and comfortable furnishings. It had the overall feel of luxury in a modern way that fit into the overall resort. The bed had great sheets and pillows but was a little hard for me but some would love it. The bathroom has a large walk in shower and a separate toilet room. The shampoos and other amenities had a great scent. The towels were plush and plentiful. The only real downside to my room on the 4th floor is that it opened onto a balcony that is shared with all the rooms on that side of the building. This means that you don't have any real privacy and you can't sleep with your door opened. The rooms on the second floor have the same issue. The food I had here was all good but spendy. The drinks are creative and also spendy. The new Spite bar is a great outdoor meeting place with lots of seating and fire pits. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and unlike some places the whole place was very well staffed. I would stay here again, particularly if I could find a good rate.
