The Marien Puerto Plata has embarked on a building project that will include building #4 and #8 of the hotel. Work on this project will take place from 9:00am to 6:00pm Mondays to Saturdays with an expected completion date of December 31, 2025.
Guests will be assigned rooms in buildings far away from construction with no noise impact. The common areas won’t be affected during this time, besides, a fence approximately 8 feet high that has been placed as an additional form of protection and visual noise to avoid disturbances.
All efforts will be made to minimize impact to guests during this time.

Highly recommended Marien! 3rd resort visit in DR and this is the best! Bartenders (especially Herman) are super friendly & attentive. Variety of tasty restaurants. Activities for old & young lead by fun ...staff (Bombón is a great time)! We will return and bring our family!

This resort is fine if you are expecting a 3 star property, the problem is, it advertises itself as 5* ( Sunwing and Air Transat rate it 4*) neither is correct. Its a 3 1/2 at best. What it does have th...at is above reproach is it's crystal clear large pool (5*) LOVED it. The beach is lovely and well kept. Trees on the beach provide shade, but there are no palapas. Around the pool there are very limited shade options and we had people tell us that they set their alarm for 5 AM to get down and claim chairs under a palapa. Now that being said we did hear of one incident where people removed the towels and belongings on a chair to sit in them and when the original "claimants" returned and complained to staff they were told you can't claim chairs so they weren't going to do anything. "May the odds be ever in your favor" The food was good, we never had a bad meal. The a la carte restaurants were first come first serve, so lining up for those began at 6 for the 6:30 opening. Maybe the resort wasn't at full capacity because each night only 2 of the 3 restaurants would open. Buffet wasn't overloaded with food but it was fine for a buffet. However I think they are understaffed because the hostess at the buffet was always off busing tables so the seating was a bit chaotic with people not waiting and then ending up at "dirty" or unmade tables waiting on glasses and cutlery. Now for the part that makes it a 3* at best. The room was old and probably hadn't been refurnished in 20 years. Opening the wardrobe was like summoning the crypt keeper it squeaked so loudly. The adjoining room door was nailed shut and no effort was made to provide insulation so when our "neighbour" returned to his room at 1:30am and had long conversations (on speaker phone) it was like he was sitting on the end of my bed. The light fixture was hanging out of the wall. Also an extra $ for the lock for the safe ($3 USD per day) ... I've never had a 4 /5 * hotel try to nickel and dime like that. For 2 days in a row we didn't get any clean bath towels in our room. The first time I went to the front desk to request them and was told very politely "Of course someone will be by in 10 minutes" *(Nobody showed up....ever)* I do understand that you might be waiting on a laundry truck, but please, don't lie to my face, I'd much prefer the truth and then show up with at least a clean pool towel. On day 2 I ended up finding some clean towels on an unattended room cart and I just took them back to my room. The amenities in the bathroom were cheap mass produced in China, again, fine for a 3* hotel. We got locked out of our room at least 4 times that week as our key cards kept needing to be reset. (Yes we kept them away from our phones.) The room had a smart TV with hot buttons for Youtube and Netflix, but no WiFi in the room. ?? LOL the only place in the room where you could connect to the WIFI was the toilet. As coffee lovers, (and the D.R is known for coffee) I was unpleasantly surprised to find that there was not one bar/restaurant that had a proper barista coffee machine. The buffet had big urns of coffee and the pool bar and beach bar had push button coffee machines that you would expect to find in a gas station. I knew that there wasn't a designated coffee shop on the resort, but this is the first time I've ever been to a resort and not been able to get a decent espresso/cappuccino at at least one place anywhere. (again NOT 5* ) Also No Mimosas at the buffet ... no cocktails at all in the buffet ...beer and wine only. Now did we let any of this affect our stay? No. Would we return to Marien when we next vacation in Puerto Plata? Again No. It's the little things that make a vacation memorable, and the little things here made it memorable but for the wrong reasons If you find a great deal and go in expecting a 3* experience, I'd say go and enjoy the pool and beach.
