Winter get away!

Very nice resort with great staff and no one pushes you to tip with the bars or all inclusive. Very clean and great entertainment staff working hard to keep it fun every day! Beautiful well kept pools and beach areas. Open lobby's for sitting relaxing with great views and service from the bars! It is a 5 star vacation!

We recently stayed at Dreams Vallarta for a business trip with a few extra vacation days. Upon arrival we had a little issue with our reservation. Our group had booked ocean view rooms and we were able to book additional nights through them. The assumption with us as well as the coordinator of the group was that the room type would be the same. The front desk informed us that we would need to move two times, once for our extra night the first night in a "garden room", then move to our ocean view for the three nights of the event and then back to a garden room for the final 4 nights. That was not what we had planned and after about 10 min at the desk and a few sidebar conversations of staff they were able to keep us in one room. We did discover that the room rate was not a negotiated rate for the extra nights but rather the street rate so to speak on the website. (I should have vetted it as I would have had a better rate had I booked independently...Lesson learned). Our room was very spacious and first impression a great spot on the 7th floor. Off we went to the restaurant Cast Away for lunch by the pool since the other couple we were traveling with; their room was not yet ready. The food at Cast Away was great. The mahi mahi was a huge hit and I think one or more of us had it every day we were there. Returning to our room to unpack we discovered that the toilet had hardly any waterflow when flushing. It worked but not well. We went to the desk the next day and reported the issue. They said someone would be up to fix it. Well we reported it again on day 3 and then on day 4 the chain in the toilet bowl broke (it had been the problem the whole time that it was stretching before breaking). On day 4 the toilet was fixed and not another issue. I'd like to continue with the room/housekeeping review. The first night we had turndown as advertised that ALL rooms receive turndown and didn't require a request. It was very nice to come back to the room and find it done. Setting the bar for our expectations the rest of the nights we were staying. Well that fell flat when we didn't receive it again until we discovered the last two nights that you could request it on the app for the hotel early in the day. Not ideal when the site states that ALL rooms receive turndown. We had also called inquiring as well as went to the desk once and were never told all we had to do was go on the app. That would have been helpful. Yes I realize turndown is not the end all be all but it is nice. Now on day two our room simply was never cleaned and day 3 late afternoon it was not cleaned again. We did NOT have a do not disturb sign out or the button lit so it was simply skipped. We had to request cleaning finally on day 3 in the evening. Now between the lack of having an adequately flushing toilet and not receiving housekeeping or turndown and paying the rate we were paying I was admittedly irritated. When did things change...On day 4 when the toilet was finally fixed! While waiting for the maintenance team and for housekeeping to finally clean the room we had a knock on the door and it was the guy to restock the minibar. He offered snacks (Pringles and M&M's). He had me at Pringles mind you, but my thought was why haven't they left any of those things prior? Again requests had to be made if we wanted more by the way of the app. After the toilet was finally fixed and housekeeping was at the door (it was 6:30pm and requested by us to clean the room) we were off to the lobby to meet the rest of our group for dinner and I decided to inquire about the room credit that was mentioned when we checked in because we had a couples massage scheduled the next day. I should have known that the credit was tied to a presentation. That was NOT going to happen after the days and lack of service to our room. When they sat us down in front of Judith I was anything but polite. I quickly snapped I was not interested in a presentation. Judith very quickly realized that we were NOT happy with the room and the way that we had been treated with so many requests for service being ignored. She listened to all of our issues, took notes and then asked us to sit and give her a few minutes to help. She not only helped but found the hotel manager and introduced us. The two of them assured us that they would make sure that was the end of issues. They offered to move our room or whatever we wanted. My husband and I were not looking for anything extra and made that clear when we thanked them and said we would stay in the room as they assured us that cleaning would happen. The toilet was fixed so we were good. Turndown was still not happening but again now that I know you can request on the app it will be my go to in the future. Moving on to room service...That was a disaster. The 45 - 60 min estimate was anything but accurate the one time we used it before we had to head to one of the business functions. After more than 90 min we called and cancelled the order. When we came back to the room HOURS later. The one other time we tried it we ordered a club sandwich and it was mediocre at best. We knew from ordering the room service and exploring the app that you could request that plates be picked up. And we did request the service but it was probably 36 hours or more that they picked up. Now with the plate pick up mentioned I will digress back to my complaining...One of the other issues that we had reported on several occassions to the desk while asking about housekeeping and the toilet was the fact that the room next to us had had room service plates sitting out for days. They finally got picked up after several of our requests (not our dishes) on day three. Bugs, rodents, all the things that I can imagine likely appreciate them being left out...Did I see any no but the idea was stuck in my head! Lets move on to why we are going to give the hotel such a high rating...It was the staff at the pool and the restaurants and ultimately Judith and the manger Brando (That may be his name or Brandon sorry I wasn't better with his). Omar was our first server at the pool. He was AMAZING and we asked each day where he would be and the second day he was serving a part of the pool that wasn't ideal for us (no easy pool access) but he saw us and we explained why we hadn't followed him. He made sure we were spoiled by his coworker Alfonso and I asked if there was any way that we could have him on other days. Our group had cabanas at one of the pools scheduled and Omar introduced us to his manager Cristian. I may or may not have begged Cristian for Omar to be moved to the area we were in and he made it happen. Our entire group was so impressed with Omar. The following day and the day that the majority of our work group was checking out we decided to rent an Oasis Cabana and it was a great way to spend the day. Cristian checked in on us and the two servers that we had that day (I didn't get their names and I hate that) were fabulous. We had our own little private pool and people popped in as they were getting ready to head to the airport so it was perfect for the 6 of us to be spoiled for the day and the others to have a spot to stop in while soaking up those last minutes they had. When we returned to the general population the next day at the pool Cristian had arranged that Omar could work he area of the pool but also the group of 6 or 8 of us that were across from him and he did this for the remainder of our days. Cristian made it amazing for us by allowing this. Along with Omar and Cristian it would be wrong not to mention the activities staff. They were at the pool each day and then we realized they were the ones doing things like the night bingo or whatever activity was going on in the lobby at night. They work harder than any of us I assure you! They learned my husbands name real fast and got him in on activities and it was so fun! Victor, my husband loved it! The names of the activities group were Jorge, Alberto, Armando and Carolina. Please don't be shy and join them for all of the fun! Clearly we loved the pool days! The restaurants are next on my list. My husband and I had breakfast at Carnival every morning and befriended Alejandro over the days. We sat in his section each day other than his one day off. He was fabulous and knew exactly what we would request each day right down to the hot sauce I liked. If you are in the restaurant ask for his section...You will not be disappointed! Restaurants...Cast Away next to the pool was great. Barefoot Grill is where you can pop over to from your chaise lounge to get tacos to burgers and they had ice cream if you asked. The Italian restaurant Capers did not disappoint. The filet or the the lasagna were the hits of our table for sure. Tamarindo, the Mexican restaurant was our favorite and we were surprised. We have all done a lot of all inclusive resorts and for whatever reason the most disappointing restaurant is usually the Mexican, but not here...We wish we had not waited until the last night for that one or we would have been frequent fliers for sure! The Japanese hibachi restaurant and the only one that required reservations was actually the most disappointing. It was fine but not great. Carnival was the buffet and we only ate there at breakfast because we had several planned group dinners so we didn't have a lot of opportunities for evenings and decided we wanted more formal restaurants. The coffee shop was a great go to just to pop in at any time of day! Finally we did head over to Secrets one night and had the French restaurant chefs table and it was amazing! I believe our waiter there was also an Alfonso. Regardless they were all great! Our final review was the spa...Do it even if it is a small service because all services include the hydrotherapy. It was phenomenal! We did a couples massage and started with the hydro not knowing what to expect but were so pleasantly surprised and will do it again with our next stay. To conclude...After our room issues were resolved and then having such amazing experiences with the rest of the staff...Especially Omar we are coming back to try it again on our own. We have already been in tough with Cristian to let him know we are coming and will work with him to make cabana reservations so we know our plans! We will be back in June. The four of us that traveled together made the decision and booked our return within two days of being home. I'm ready to go back and again thank you to all that are mentioned in this review for saving us. Those first few days made me NOT want to return but the erfforts made by so many swayed us to come back! Thank you Omar, Alfonso, and the other Alfonso, Cristian, Alejandro, Judith, Brando(n), Jorge, Alberto, Armando, and Carolina! See you all in June! Kerri and Victor
