Overpriced all inclusive resort with horrible food

rindarah (Monrovia, California) on Jan 03, 2025

To preface my review, this is our 4th all inclusive resort in two years (3 in Mexico, including this one, and one in Costa Rica). To put things into perspective, Fiesta Americana was the 2nd most expensive resort of the four we stayed at yet was by far the worst. And I feel bad writing negative reviews (which I hardly do) but this one is warranted. We are a family of four with two children (preteen and teen). We love the all inclusives because of the convenience and we are foodies and have found that most all inclusive resorts have great food for the most part. Fiesta Americana was the exception to that. The food was horrible. Everything was either too bland or more often than not, way too salty. The menudo at the fiesta one night tasted like a spoonful of salt and the Aguachile from the buffet was so salty. We made a comment to the waitress and she was doubtful at first but went to go try it herself and confirmed it and told the chef (compliments to the waitress Ruby who actually took the time to follow-up instead of dismissing us like most of the waitresses there). We thought there were 6 onsite restaurants (per the website) but there are only 3 you can reserve at, one poolside bar food buffet during the day and the breakfast/lunch buffet (breakfast is ok but the bacon was so hard that it was inedible every single day). The seafood lunch restaurant they advertised was non existent. And most nights, they convert one of the 3 dine in restaurants into a buffet. And I think everyone can agree that buffet quality food is different from sit down food. Here’s a run down of the food options: Asian - worst food of the 3 restaurants. Only thing good there was the shrimp in the pad Thai (but not the pad Thai itself) Mexican - average food, which is disappointing for a Mexican resort. Biggest issue was service. Took an hour to get our food and an hour and a half to get our drinks. Never got the water we asked for 4 times. Finally got it at the end of our meal when we asked the 3rd waiter that was servicing our table. Everyone around us was unhappy with the slow service. When we commented about it to the waiter, he said they were understaffed. We communicated that to management and they refused to admit they were understaffed. I think the waiters doing the actual job would know better but management was in denial. Also, the tortilla baskets had a lid where the underside is styrofoam. The styrofoam was dirty and had black spots. Unsanitary. Italian - I *think* this is the best restaurant of the 3. I say I think because I wouldn’t know for sure because we never got a chance to order from the menu. First night we tried going, it was converted into a buffet. Second night we had reservations, I saw them set up a buffet so asked if it was a buffet again and if there was no option to order from the regular menu. They said we could do both. I asked again to confirm because we didn’t want buffet again. They confirmed menu would be available. So we go for dinner, and they say there’s no menu. That’s a big problem with that resort. No consistency. One person would say one thing and another would say something different. This was constant our entire stay. No consistency and no accountability. When we had complained earlier in the week to management about the stay thus far, they said they would try to accommodate and we can ask for special dishes if we weren’t happy with what we were getting. So we mentioned that to the Italian restaurant manager and he shook his head and gave us a hard time about wanting to order off the menu. We weren’t even asking for a special order, we just wanted to order from the menu like we were promised. Finally, they reluctantly brought the menu to us and half the items weren’t available. Of the two entrees we ordered off the menu, one was good and one was inedible. I’m pretty sure if they were prepared to service menu orders, it would’ve been a lot better. That’s why I say this Italian restaurant is probably the best of all the restaurants. Room service - we ended up ordering room service more often than not because the restaurant food was inedible. We didn’t pay all that money to eat burgers and salad most nights but that’s what it came down to. And they couldn’t even get that right. One night, they lost our order. I called 1.5 hours after I ordered and the food never came (I assumed they were busy so was trying to be patient) and they confirmed they didn’t have our order. Food ended up coming 3 hours later. My son ate dinner at 2am that night because he couldn’t eat anything from the onsite restaurant (if you order the chicken fajitas from the Mexican restaurant, you’ll see why it’s not appetizing as it had zero taste) so came back and ordered room service at 11pm (we got back late as we waited 1.5 hours to get all our food at the restaurant). Another day, we had a late afternoon activity so the plan was to order room service for breakfast and eat lunch at the resort before heading out. Again, they lost our room service order. When we called an hour later, they said they had no record of it. So by the time we got our food, it was too late to eat lunch before we left so had to pay to eat out. Coffee shop - I cannot drink cow’s milk and asked for any alternative milk. They claimed they had none. I couldn’t believe I was the only guest that couldn’t drink milk but the barista was so adamant so I just ordered an Americana. As I got my drink, another staff came in with a cart full of almond and soy milk. When I questioned it, the barista almost looked embarrassed he got caught. Although there are definitely some hard working people there that we appreciated, there were a handful that were rude and didn’t care to provide good service. We explained our concerns to management on day 3 (we stayed 6 nights and 7 days) and although she was nice, it was all lip service. They didn’t make anything better or go above and beyond like she promised. We were left to fend for ourselves at the restaurant when we noted management told us to order special dishes, only to get attitude by the restaurant manager and we were embarrassed as it was drawing attention. Only thing the resort management offered was a pool cabana. That was not part of the problem and did not solve anything. So we didn’t accept that offer. They didn’t offer anything else. We travel for food and decided it wasn’t worth it to suffer and eat subpar food so we ended up eating out more often than not. It’s ridiculous we had to spend more money on food when we already spent so much on this all inclusive resort. We complained afterwards and management did nothing. They didn’t care about our experience or the empty promises made. I booked through Expedia and they were way more responsive in trying to help than the resort management. Thus, the long review. This is my only way of communicating to the management, as we can’t get through to them otherwise. So for travelers, be warned. We travel often and we are not picky. We have never complained about any stay at any of the hotels/resorts we have stayed at. This is a first and I can’t stress enough that this resort is overpriced and you will not get the food/service you paid for. I wouldn’t even mention this otherwise but for full disclosure, it’s a super old resort too. Rooms are old and outdated and you see a lot of cracks and rust everywhere. We wouldn’t even have complained about that had the food and service been better. We paid over $850/night so for 6 nights, that is a lot of money. It’s just disappointing and disheartening that we spent so much and spent our vacation at a resort that didn’t care enough to try to make things right or address our complaints (Expedia noted management refused to compensate in any way). I hope our review prevents some other travelers from having a similar poor experience.

Location location location!!

Asawari K (Sw Grand Mound,) on Jan 02, 2025

The best thing about this place is location. We had a great view from our room! Also all the activities are quite near by and accessible. So the location gets full points! Personally for us the food at the resort was a bit disappointing. The quality was okay - very less Mexican food was available, which was unexpected for us. And whatever was available was not very good quality. Service was mostly good - except for few occasions where we had to wait for about an hour and 15 minutes for food to arrive after ordered. One thing that really bugged us was that food was not tagged consistently on buffets. There was no way to know which one is vegetarian and which one is not other than asking the staff which was a lot of time unavailable to answer or were facing language barriers even if we’re trying to help. Booze is available, staff is friendly! If they know the answer they will do their best to help you despite not knowing English. Overall it was a good experience - again, the location is really really good! I still remember the sunset we saw at this beach! Hope you find the review helpful! Thank you!
