Beautiful resort with amazing staff!
Kayla B on Oct 31, 2024
The staff is beyond wonderful in every area of the resort. They are kind, caring, and thoughtful in so many ways. There are a great variety of activities for kids and adults during the day and in the evening. The pools and beach are well kept and very clean. The rooms are beautiful with excellent ocean views throughout the resort. The food and drinks were excellent. Although this time of the year had less restaurant availability daily and seemed to have less variety of food options in comparison to previous stays we have had at this resort. Our room level included a butler who was unfortunately not very helpful or thoughtful during our stay. We only saw him a few times and any requests we had (like extra juice for the room) took 2 days to receive and went to the wrong room. Previous butlers made our stay extra special by leaving small treats in the room, helping us with seating at restaurants in the evening, and checking on us regularly to make sure we had a wonderful stay.
not as good as hyatt ziva cancun

not as good as hyatt ziva cancun in terms of food/hospitality. some crew at check in desk/coffee bar are not really friendly and with poker face. my kid got cut in foot at the buffet restaurant. the concierge came and said we have doctor but the payment is not included in your package. in the end the doctor helped disinfect and gave bandage and tell us it's complimentary as a courtesy. like they are doing a favor for us. the kid got cut by the restaurant facility!
Fun cycle class

Took the indoor cycling class with Patrick during our stay and had so much fun! It was a great workout with lots of high energy and motivation. I liked it so much I took it twice. I typically do not take cycle classes, but found this to be great!!!
High Expecations Met!!
clhuhman (Saint Peters, Missouri) on Oct 30, 2024
I had high expectations for this resort based on reviews from a fan Facebook page and they were definitely met! We traveled with 2 other families each of us with a 13/14 year old girl. We upgraded at hotel from a King Ocean View to a King Ocean Front with Butler. While our butler Raquel was fabulous and I highly recommend her, I do not think we would upgrade again. Other than hanging things to dry on our balcony we never sat on our deck to enjoy the ocean front view. Raquel found us at least 2 times every day to see what we needed and delivered. She also surprised us a couple of times with items in our room which was also nice! We requested wine, charcuterie boards and dessert plates for the room. While this was a nice perk, with all the food options and availability, we really did not need the extra food in our room. The wine was nice to have and my husband did ask for a specialty bottle of Rum which was great as well. But overall, was it worth the extra $150 a night plus the tip, probably not for us. Resort was low occupency and we had no waits at restaurants and we did not do any excursions so did not need Butler services for those types of things. She was very helpful with the checkout process as well. Highly recommend Raquel if you get a room with a butler. Rooms were kept clean, towels changed daily. Did like that Raquel requested our room be cleaned and turn down service at a time that worked with ourdaily schedule. We tipped both day housekeeping and turn down staff as they did a fantastic job. The pillows were FLAT so Raquel also helped ensure we got better pillows. My husband slept great and 13 yr old slept good on pull out couch. Even with better pillows, I did not sleep well all week. We did not need damp rid for humidity in the room, brought a clothes line, but just used hangers on balcony rail instead. Even with low occupency, we put towles on our preferred lounge chairs every day between 7:30 and 8:00 to ensure we were next to pool and lounging shelf. Perfect location next to pool bar. Daughter used the club pool, but it was fairly quiet so not very often. We did like the drinks better from the club pool bar so we would walk over to get some of our drinks there every day. The main pool wait staff was amazing (Amanda, Carla & Jorge). Even though we did not order much from our loungers, they were always checking to see if we needed anything. We did take large insulated cups and glad we did as they kept drinks cold longer. While we loved the entertainment staff (especially Amaurys), I had hoped for a little higher energy on the pool deck. My understanding was management does not feel "high energy" entertainment is what their clientele wants so it is not offered. They had Bingo several times during our stay as well as a raffel where they would hand out numbers and pull from a hat for 4 - 6 winners. A few staff would get on deck and perform a dance for a couple minutes each day, but did not really get guests involved. We did the organized beach volleyball a couple times which was fun. They also had organized soccer on the beach and a basketball hoop on the beach. We did painting on the beach which was fun, get there early to get a spot (about 16 available). Nelson was sweet and helpful! Water sports attendent service was disappointing. Took 3 girls to get SUP and Kayaks one day. Signed the forms and he pointed out which equipment to use. All other AI's they always come to water, give a little instruction and launch crafts. I was left pulling equipment into water and trying to get all 3 kids set up and going. Went later to use Hobbie Cat. It had been 15 years since we did one so we asked him to take us out but he said he'd explain in 5 minutes and we would be good. He did, but we were not great at it and had a very slow meandering, sometimes stalled ride. No other families in our group did the hobbie cats because they had never done before and didn't want to go by themselves and we never went back. Wish this service was a little stepped up/more hands on. With low crowds we could have gone out a couple of times each day but girls only went on SUP and kayaks twice. Beach is nice with lots of chairs and umbrellas. Sand is a littly 'crunchy' and somewhat packed, not soft and fluffy. Definitely some rocky coral as you walk in the water but that goes away after a few steps. I did not personally care for the floor bottom. It was kind of 'hairy' and somewhat mushy. I brought watershoes but did not take to beach the one day I walked out to barrier. Water is chest high all the way to barrier but there are little drop offs as you go so step carefully. I would definitely wear water shoes if I were to hang out. We ended up pool side every day as the water was amazing! Highly recommend hammock floats for beach and pool. We used ours every day. Waterpark was nice, but it was a bit of a walk out the front of the hotel. We only went one day and did not go back, including the teens in our group. They did not think it was worth the walk. I was very surprised by this as usually the teens are very into water slides. Good to know as it opens up other resorts for us w/o water parks. Husband and I went around the lazy river about 8 times and if it were connected to the pool area would have been using it for the duration of our stay as it was relaxing with some water sprays thrown in. The ice cream and snacks from food trucks were good. We also brought alcohol drinks from the pool area with us. They had daily liqour tasting at 2pm (Whiskey, rum, tequila, wine) which we participated in daily, they also set up massage chairs one day and offered free 5 minute massages which were fantastic! While I wanted to do the daily stretching and/or yoga on the beach, I never made it due to the timing. Wish they were offered between 7 - 9/before breakfast and having a swimsuit on as I never wanted to go change and we were always at the pool by 9:00 or 9:30. We ate at Waves (steak) on Zilara side and it was just amazing. Recommend the spinach artichoke dip and the short rib tacos for appetizers. I asked for med well tenderloin filet and it was cooked perfectly - not over cooked. I did not hear anyone complain about how the're steaks were prepared. Also ate at Tempest twice doing the Mongolian option (Tampenyaki and ala carte also available). The edamame appetizer is also amazing and ordered both times we went. I have to find Ponzu sauce and try this at home. Daughter and I loved picking our own proteins, veggies, starch and sauce. Prontoz for carry out poolside was ok. Chicken strips were way overcooked one day and ok another. Pizza was thick with not enough sauce one day and thin another with not enough sauce. French frys were never salted so had to ask for a plastic container of salt. The poolside BBQ was excellent every day. They also brought out an ice cream cart most afternoons and several times rolled out an alcohol cart for special tastings of various liqours. The coffee shop was excellent - my favorite was the coconut frappacino for a cool down after morning workouts. Everyone loved the fresh fruit popsicles. Mad at myself for never getting one! Husband ate at Navigator one night and thoroughly enjoyed his meal. The meat lover fest at Mercado was amazing - recommend the Tomahawk steak. Everythign at the Mercado buffet was just excellent with a theme every night (Bella Notte - Itallian, Carribiean Fest, Steak Fest, Mexican) and anything you could possibly want for breakfast. Made a special stop for Happy Hour at Moments Sports bar just to try the mozzarella sticks (there were HUGE) and nachos which we heard were excellent and were not disappointed. Wish they served lunch from here during the day. Evening enterainment was meh. Little kids seemed to love the early (7:30ish) movie on lawn with snacks, teens liked pre-show karaoke. We only stayed to watch the Michael Jackson show. We wanted to do the beach party and Fire show but it rained that night so it was cancelled. We did not stay for the Elvis show, Magic show or three tenor opera show (though they sounded amazaing in the hallways). We tend to eat earlier and staying around until a 9:15 show mostly seemed too hard for us;). We did schedule a photo shoot and our photographer Hector was excellent. The pictures are $20 each or you can do a different packages. They do not want to spend a lot of time going through pictures to weed down what you want (we started with 64) so they push you to a package pretty quick. We ended up getting 26 for $325 which is not much more than I would pay for family photos in the states. Definitely identify any photoshop you want them to do the first time you look at them and downselect. Check your pictures to make sure this is done to your liking (we had extra buttons added to one shirt that looked goofy and some items that were missed). Emanuel helped us with this the next day and did a great job. The beach is windy so we had lots of hair sticking straight up that needed to be edited even though they do their best to position you so the wind is favorable. We had a 9am shoot and glad becuase it just gets hotter from there! It is a tropical location and even in October every day was very humid, except one day where it rained a bit in the morning. We definitely got mosquito bites, even during the day. Not a lot, but enough to be annoying. Mosquitos love both me and my daughter. For 3 of us, we all tan easily, we used 1.5 bottles of suntan lotion. Daughter burned on her face as she was going under water and wiping her face frequently. She should have been reapplying every hour - lesson learned. Bring several swimsuits and cover-ups, work-out clothes and less evening/dinner clothes than what you think you need! You will love Hyatt Ziva! We will definitely come back some day, but may check out some other Ziva locations first!
