Not good
Claire M on Jun 03, 2025
First and last visit to this resort. I will start off with saying that I read the terrible reviews about food, customer service, cleanliness, etc before I left, but I always keep an open mind with these - ...I’ve travelled to the DR (and stayed at other Bahia Principe hotels) many times before and I know what to expect. I never go to an all inclusive expecting it to be absolutely perfect; you take the good with the bad. However, this was by far my worst experience and there were really no positives. While I will certainly return to the DR, I will never stay with Bahia Principe again. Starting with check in, it was chaos. No welcome, no clear sign of where to go, just what felt like hundreds of guests hanging out in the lobby and like 3 staff. Next, food. My issue isn’t really with the quality or variety of the food, because again I’ve stayed at all inclusives and you don’t go there for the food. My issue was with the lack of sanitary measures. The buffet in the lobby was terrible and a cesspool of bacteria. The smell is absolutely horrific. By the last day I couldn’t even walk in there without gagging. If you sit far enough back into the buffet you can’t really smell it, but it’s the first thing you smell when you walk in. There are lots of options for food I felt, however it was not sanitary. Jams, honey, Nutella, etc were just sitting in bowls right where people were lining up for other breakfast foods. You were supposed to just grab a spoon and help yourself to spreads that people likely coughed on, etc. People were not using the tongs for bread, etc, and using their hands - there was no hand sanitizer provided. Fruit was covered in mosquitos and the tables were disgusting. Covered in food and sticky from whoever ate there before. There was maybe one day I saw them wiping down (more like brushing with a dry cloth) the tables between seatings. We found the food at the a la cartes was good, but you are limited to 3-4 dinners. Lastly, customer service was absolutely non existent with the exception of maybe 1-2 staff members we interacted with. We realized within a few days that the resort mainly caters to South Americans and so if you don’t speak Spanish you are treated poorly. This was further confirmed when we went to the gym at Ambar and one of the employees asked why we’re staying at Grand Punta Cana because Canadians usually stay at Ambar. I agree with the other reviews that the renovated rooms are nice, and the shuttles are frequent. To top it off, what was the most defeating is that this vacation was not cheap. I’ve paid less in the DR and had a much better experience. We booked with Air Canada vacations and for what we paid I am so disappointed. They rate this resort 4.5 stars and it absolutely is not. I would not recommend this resort to anyone.
Non- Stop fun and Entertainment!
Lesley R (Kelowna, Canada) on Jun 03, 2025
My family and friends went to this resort in May to celebrate my moms birthday and our friends new engagement and I can honestly say that this was one of the best trips of my life. I had been to this resor...t before 3 years ago and I absolutely loved it then. Before heading down I was reading reviews and I noticed that there was a lot go negative reviews which made me a little bit nervous to go back to a place that I had enjoyed and loved so much. But.... the resort did NOT disappoint. Take the negative reviews with a grain of salt. Are there things that need to be improved? Yes, but I think you can say that about anywhere you go. This place is stunning, the staff all work so incredibly hard are there is non stop fun going on all day long! One of the reasons that we loved this resort so much is because the activities and the entertainment is non stop. The entertainment team was so much fun! From the moment they arrive in the morning they were greeting guests with friendly smiles and coming over to chat and get to know us . They were always encouraging everyone to get involved in the upcoming fun games and activities, but were not pushy about it. The games always had us laughing and dancing. I really enjoyed that in the mornings you had your typical resort games like ring toss and corn hole and in the afternoon there were competitions, foams parties, dunk tanks, and crazy games. Also, the aqua aerobics at this resort was top notch. This team is incredible and can really dance up a storm. In the evenings the entertainment team would come back and continue the party with all the guests. The nightly live music and dancing on the terrace was one of the highlights of my trip. I had so much fun getting dance lessons from the staff members, they made it so easy and inclusive for everyone to join in and follow. The guys on the entertainment team who really stood out to us and made our trip so special were Luis, Robinson, Jorgi, and Anthony. They made my moms birthday so special and truly celebrated her all day long! we all said it was the best day and night and one we will forever remember. I cannot say enough good things about this team! Another team at the resort that made our trip extra special were the pool bartenders! These guys had smiles on their faces all day long and work tirelessly, making sure our glasses never went empty. One of the bartenders that really stood out to us was Wagter. He definitely went above and beyond and we were so excited to see him everyday. He was so genuine and friendly! Plus he would make us the best drinks, and have great recommendations! He always greeted us with a big smile and truly made an effort to get to know our family. He became our favourite Spanish teacher, he would encourage us to practice our Spanish, and was so helpful whenever we had questions. He also made my moms birthday so special by getting all the bar team to come out and sing happy birthday and treated us with champagne. Every evening we would stop at the pool bar to grab a drink before heading to our dinner reservation, because he provided such great service and drinks.
