OCEAN MAYA ROYALE FEEL THE OCEAN FAMILY
X2765AKpeterj (West Kelowna, Canada) on Mar 28, 2025
Once again, I have so many positive things to say about our two week stay at Ocean Maya Royale, definitely our home away from home! Our greeting from the staff as they opened our car doors on arrival.... "...Hello Mr Joyce, Mrs Joyce, hello family, you are back!!! So great to see you again!" This sets the tone for our whole visit! As always, the staff is just the BEST no matter where you are on this resort. Our check in was made very special as we were once again able to connect with Luis Cortez and Rafael Jorge. Conversation, laughter and such a warm feeling seeing these two!! Again, we feel like family returning! Our experiences during our stay, so much to praise and so many staff that made our stay so incredible, enjoyable and 5 star PLUS! We consider them family and love that this feeling is returned in kind. We were very fortunate to have our housekeeper Eneida Chima again. Eneida is a true blessing. As I've mentioned in previous reviews Eneida looks after us as if we were staying in her own home. Her care and attention to the cleanliness of our room is above and beyond. And the little surprise "towel characters" that she does for us... we are always almost running into the room from our day at the beach to see what she has created for us that day. Our butler Juan Alonso, once again we were very happy that Juan would be looking after us. He was our butler last year as well. While Juan seems to be very quiet and unassuming, don't be mistaken by this. Juan gets the job done in a very quiet, professional way and never fails in his position. He surprised me a couple times anticipating our needs and looking after them even before I asked him. Casanova Jorge and Javier Vergara Quinto... La Dolce Vita and Blue Moon restaurants respectively... what can I say about these two? We are treated like royalty by these two gentlemen! The service and food at each of these two restaurants has always been excellent! And I will say, if something is ever slightly off with our meal, (Very rarely) it is looked after immediately and with a smile. No problem! The word "Family" just keeps coming into play. We love these two and the funny thing is they seem to have a great bond with each other and maybe even a little competition to see who can do the best for their restaurant. Privilege restaurant, where we enjoyed a lot of our breakfast meals and afternoon "snacks" (fish tacos, chicken ciabatta's, etc.). Always excellent service, Carolina runs a great crew and looks after her guests with great care, pride and personal attention. We have come to know her over the years coming to Maya Royale and she too feels like family to us. It is always great, almost a relief really, to see that she continues to be there. Evening dinner service is also excellent and our various meals have been excellent, never an issue or if one, looked after right away. No problem! Privilege beach service... This was outstanding this year! Even better than last year and we thought last year couldn't get any better! First of all... Jesus De la Cruz, our beach server extraordinaire!!! We did not even have to tell him what our drink was on our first day on the beach, he recited it off like it was yesterday that we were there! Unbelievable. And kind of goes without saying, he knew our names and remembered us from previous visits. He works so very hard, sometimes carrying and balancing two trays full of drinks (not sure how he does it) and goes like this all through his shift! Always with a smile, his smile is so infectious! We were never wanting or lacking for service when Jesus was on shift, cannot say enough about this man. It was our privilege to have him look after us! Beach/Towel Butler... I would have to say this is where service this year seemed to be stepped up a significant notch. Not that last year was bad, not at all, but this year Jorge our beach butler was awesome!!! (Sorry did not get last name) Never without fresh towels for our loungers, always bringing me fresh ice and always on the move asking and checking to see if guests needed anything, picking up empty ice buckets, etc. etc. And the fresh ice cold face towels mid afternoon were just the best! Jorge did not just sit in the towel hut, he was proactive and looking after his guest's needs. And all of this with a fantastic, quite often joking (a good thing) personality! We were very sorry that we did not get the chance to say goodbye to him the day we left as he was off unexpectedly for a couple of days with a bad tooth. I am so hoping that he will be there when we return next year!!! El Charro Restaurant... we love this restaurant also, in particular for lunch. The tacos are the best, the chef is very accommodating and made my wife cheese quesadillas when asked. Also, did a variety of tacos, not really on the menu, for me too! We really appreciate the service from the staff here. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. Special mention to Augustyn Sanchez Figueroa, when he is bartending here during the day. He is awesome, makes the best margarita on the rocks and all with his very special smile. We have been friends for several years now! The above are where the majority of our interactions were. However, I will touch upon other areas briefly here as well. La Hacienda (buffet) Restaurant... this trip we only went here a few times. Not for any real reason, just seemed to spend more time at the above restaurants. We have never had any complaints about the food here, the service and staff are always friendly and excellent. We do like the selections available and in particular I like breakfasts here. Route 66... another one, we don't frequent much, however from what I hear food is good and service is also good. Cannot make educated comments here. Yookoso Restaurant... we went here one night and enjoyed the show. Menu was set and basic, tasted decent but limited. One negative is that you cannot order "bar drinks" here. You are limited to ordering numerous bottles/types of saki (extra charge) or you can order draft beer. The sake is obviously an upsell and for one that does not drink draft beer, the only other option, was disappointing. I believe the whole concept of this restaurant needs a changeover of some sort as it is very redundant. The above, of course, is just my opinion while others may love it. Mikes Coffee... we frequented this quite often as my wife is a coffee drinker. Great service, great coffee and snacks as well. All very positive about this place!! Lobby bar... here several times during our two weeks. Bartenders are awesome, great drinks and service. Lots of fun and great socializing, people watching, etc. No complaints here, all good! Entertainment... Beach/pool areas... as others have mentioned Kendall and staff are the stars during the day at the pool and in the evenings as well. Unbelievable the amount of energy from this crew!!! In addition, the nightly entertainment is very good also. A wide variety, something different each night and always entertaining. We also loved the "independent" entertainers that were brought in to play in the center court area usually in the late afternoons to early evening times. Would love to see this continue as it provides something new and promotes local entertainers as well! Rooms, grounds and resort as a whole.... The rooms for us have always been wonderful. Never an issue with anything in the room. If something is missing, needed, it only takes one message to our butler or front desk and all is looked after pretty much immediately. The grounds around the resort are immaculate! So much work goes into maintaining the beauty of this resort and much credit and respect to all of those on the grounds crews that do the work. They deserve the credit and are unspoken heroes in my book. I am sure that I have missed "someone" here and for that I apologize. I thank with all of my heart the staff in all of the restaurants the we go to, too many names to remember frankly. But you are appreciated and seen by us for all that you do! Closing... I would like to mention again the two gentlemen that along with all of their staff are responsible for making our stay at Ocean Maya Royale Resort our true home away from home. Luis Cortez... for several years now Luis has become a friend and family to us. He welcomes us, with literally open arms each and every visit. He is professional, accommodating to our needs, warm, kind and truly an honorable great man. His leadership and guidance of his staff shows in the kindness and professionalism that we enjoy when interacting with the Privilege staff members. Rafael Jorge... from our first meeting, originally at Ocean Coral & Turquesa, Rafael has come into our hearts. He too is a kind, warm hearted man and we have become very good friends with him and feel fortunate for him to consider us family too. No request is ever too much for him, little or small. He is there to look after our stay and with his staff, they achieve this with flying colors! Ocean Maya Royale.... feel the ocean!! Family!!
Wonderful!

What a great time! We booked this resort last minute and we were not disappointed. We did not experience any of the noise concerns mentioned. There is an activities pool and a larger pool beside each ...other. The larger pool is the “quiet” one and the smaller the pool with the swim up bar which is definitely noisy because of the music, aqua fitness, etc. I would hardly consider it obnoxious and the quieter side you can’t hear it overly loud. Kendall, one of the activities hosts is an absolute riot. He leads the best aquafit I’ve ever done, engages extremely well with the guests, and has a hilarious sense of humor. He gets the party going and keeps it going. And on the days we wanted a more quiet day, we just went to the larger pool. Adrian is a gracious server on that side and takes great care of you while you’re lounging. Our room was in a great location next to the beach. It was clean, quiet, and comfortable. The resort as a whole is well maintained for its age and clean. All the employees are lovely. The massage therapists are fantastic. There are loads of activities each day, easy to find and well-attended. Everything from paint and sip, to yoga, to Spanish lessons and much more. The food is plentiful and tasty. We also recommend to take the Mayan dinner on the beach on Thursday night. While it is not included in the price, the show and food was excellent. Overall, we were so pleased with our perfect stay! Thanks to all of the team member who made our vacation special!
