Wonderful experience.

Beautiful hotel.. perfect location that is close by to everything.. easily walkable. Loved the rooftop and food! Our view from the room was stunning. The staff was super friendly, check in process was seam...less, and they had a lot of amenities for our infant son.

Not worth the money. Rude Staff.

This is NOT a family friendly hotel. It's a party hotel. I heard loud guests all throughout the night running down the hall (because yes, the rooftop bar is on the same level as some of the rooms and uses ...the same elevator to reach it). I heard loud noise from cars on the streets even though I was on one of the higher floors, people driving by were playing the bass on their cars hard. They provide earbuds in the room, which is a hint that yes, other guests have probably complained about the street noise. I requested 2 cribs, only one was in the room. I called ahead of time to ask if baby shampoo was provided and they said no. I buy a travel size bottle of baby shampoo and pack it in my suitcase and find out - a small bottle of baby shampoo lying in the provided crib. When we checked in, the woman at the front desk went through the AMEX FHR benefits extremely quickly and showed me a map of the hotel with its restaurants and started frantically crossing out multiple restaurants that we could not use the property credit for. I asked her to slow down and repeat herself and she said "why don't you just read the paper" and refused to explain to me or repeat herself. We booked through AMEX FHR and the breakfast is located across the street at their "sister" property. Breakfast room service is NOT covered and you have to go across the street to use this benefit. We were quoted an hour wait to eat breakfast (probably because the hotel guests are shuttled over from the other property). The hostess was nice enough to sense our desperation and seated us outside at bar stool level where the highchair would not reach the table so we held our child the whole time while trying to feed them. There were many empty tables that we passed by that I noticed were not filled and remained unfilled throughout the duration of our breakfast, however we were not offered a different table despite our waitress noticing our difficulty with holding our child. The breakfast area is nice but small, and the buffet was cleaned out at times and not well stocked. As we were leaving, we saw other people's children being given crayons, but we were not offered any during our time. Property credit for AMEX FHR - Does not apply to most of the restaurants and gift shop on the property, except for the spa, rooftop bar and a michelin restaurant with $$$$ price tags. I have stayed at a lot of AMEX FHR and have not encountered so many exclusions to the property credit. Check out at 4pm was guaranteed per AMEX FHR. We were running late with two little kids in tow. We asked if we could check out at 5pm and was told that we would be charged 150$. We asked if it could be extended to 4:30pm and was told any minute we stay past 4pm, we will be charged for it. The female manager who spoke to us over the phone, was rude, unfriendly, and lacked empathy. Delivery and tone is everything. We understand there are certain hotel policies, but we ask to be spoken to with respect. Oh by the way this is Sunday night, where usually it is a slower day for check ins for hotel. A separate male manager calls back an hour later, and offers 100$ to check out late. Wow, what a deal. The only redeeming factor about this hotel is that the basic rooms are well furnished and clean, albeit small. There are sliding doors to the bathroom so there is no true separate wall between the bedroom area and the bathroom. If you want a hotel where you can just have a bachelorette party, this is your hotel. I am curious as to how this hotel made it into the #1 Travel and Leisure Hotel. That is just wildly untrue. It's basically a hotel with nice furnishing but poor service. This hotel barely scrapes to meet the 4* mark. Here are some hotels in the greater San Diego area that I think are much better that I have personally stayed in: - Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines: Great golf course, beautiful views - Four Seasons Aviara, North San Diego: The best service. - Park Hyatt Aviara Resort: Fun pools for the kids. - Estancia La Jolla Hotel and Spa: Beautiful grounds. - Fairmont Grand Del Mar: Old fashioned fancy. - Rancho Bernado Inn: Pretty grounds.
