Fine for a conference, but not until after the strike ends

jessietenenbaum (Raleigh, North Carolina) on Nov 16, 2024

I've stayed at this Hilton a few times for a conference. This year I knew about the strike and hated the idea of crossing the picket line, so I cancelled my reservation and stayed at a hotel a block away (for much less $!). But I still had to go to the Hilton for the actual meeting. (And a friend let me crash with her at the Hilton for a few nights, which meant I didn't have to pay, and so didn't give my money to HIlton. At least, that's how I'm rationalizing my decision to accept the offer.) The temporary staff are doing their best, and the service was generally fine in my experience. The food provided in certain meeting rooms was quite good. There's an entrance through the garage on Ellis St. one can use so as not to blantantly cross the line. But the noise from the strikers (who I generally support) was VERY loud, audible even in high up rooms, and ongoing from 7am to 10pm. I hope the parties can come to resolution soon and that HIlton gives the workers the living wages and benefits they deserve. (even if that cuts into the CEO's reported $56.8M compensation?)

Not up to par

Cathy B (CT) on Nov 14, 2024

This hotel does not live up to my expectations for a Hilton. As of the writing of this review, the hospitality workers' union (Local 2) was on strike, including this hotel. The people responsible for keeping the hotel running are doing a poor job. It's obvious my room hadn't been dusted cleaned in quite some time. My allergies were triggered badly enough that I couldn't sleep well at night. When I checked, the headboard was covered in dust, as were other surfaces. I'm told by several of my colleagues that their rooms were also dusty. The food was over priced. The nearly $50 USD breakfast buffet was no better than the free breakfast buffet offered at hotels that charge 1/2 this Hilton's nightly rate. On a positive note: The linens and towels were fresh and the coffee/tea service was fully stocked when I arrived. Front desk staff were friendly.
