Monitor the hotel employee strike status prior to booking
BigCane00 (Fort Lauderdale, Florida) on Oct 21, 2024
The major problem during our stay was that the hotel service workers (cooks, maids, bellhops) were on strike and picketing outside of the hotel. Not only did you have to go through them to get inside the hotel, they were banging on pots and pants for the majority of the day (by law they had to stop at 10 PM but they restarted very early in the morning)…… Those strikers were disturbing the guests that have nothing to do with the strike….. Since I did not know about the strike, hotel management was willing to relocate me to a nearby Hilton, but I chose to take a $50 credit instead….. However the strike should have been posted. If I knew, I would have stayed at a different hotel. Even a different Hilton (the Hilton 55 Park is located diagonally across the street and not impacted by the strike)(note that five other hotels are impacted by the strike-so do your research). Regarding the hotel, it’s pretty good and it’s very nearby the BART station. The hop on hop off tourist bus has a stop right at the hotel. The rooms are spacious and clean and the rooms on the top floors have great views. The Cityscape lounge has an amazing view. They have a pool, but we were too busy doing tourist stuff to utilize it. I did use the gym and it’s in very good shape….. So if the noise from the strikers don’t bother you then go ahead and stay there. Otherwise stay somewhere else.
Strike protests and other issues made this a negative experience

Of course the Hilton accommodations are beautiful. The room as was clean and spacious as expected. The check in and out process was simple. I was not expecting a Hilton employee strike to be taking place outside, and would have rather been informed that this was occurring prior to arriving. At least I would have been mentally prepared for this situation. I did not like crossing rhetorical strike line or being greeted by loud protests prior to entering the building. Although, I could not hear the protesters from our room, I had considerable concern about this upon entering. Other frustrations included employees that could not provide simple services such as telling us where the Cityscapes bar was located inside of the building (likely because they were contracted temporary hires working in place of the regular employees during the strike), difficulties with the air conditioning system, and an uncomfortable bed. In spite of the convenient location, I cannot recommend this Hilton at this time.
