Have visited many times, first review

We've stayed here many times on our annual family ski holiday but have never reviewed before. We're just back home and still think it's a wonderful hotel, with great staff and amenities. We decided to try ...the gold floor this year and wish we had done previously. Although we love Portobello for breakfast, on a very busy ski day wait times can be long. However, in the gold floor lounge there is a lovely breakfast buffet, great coffee and (as we had 2 vegetarians with us) the veggie options were fab. Healthy snacks and yummy cakes are served there 2-4. Highly recommend it but all in all even without upgrading the hotel is worth it. Love apres in the Mallard, with live music too. the hot tubs and pool ease the muscles after a hard day skiing, changing rooms and gym all very clean. We found all the Staff very friendly, with many going the extra mile in their service. It's on the Blackcomb side (which our family slightly prefer to ski) but the village is easily reached by a short (8min) walk or by Fairmont bus into 3 drop off/ pick up points in village. We very much hope to return in 2026
A fantastic hotel with great ski facilities and ski-in/out location in upper village. Some thoughts for improvement...

This is undoubtedly a fantastic hotel. Our third visit and is perfect for skiing Whistler/Blackcomb. We had a Gold room on the 8th floor and used the ski valet, bar, leisure club and even had a meet and gr...eet with Archie the hotel dog. I do have some thoughts and recommendations to make this a perfect holiday. We first came here over 10 years ago and since that time, nothing has really changed. It still looks nice and welcoming in the lobby/reception, but I would have expected to see some upgrades in that time. Also nothing has changed in the inside/outside pool area, and I am think this now looks tired and in need of an upgrade. The hotel provides great ski facilities, but still people wander around in ski boots. We had someone upstairs wandering about in ski boots and think this is completely unacceptable. The hotel must have loads of complaints about this, so not sure why they don't ask people not to walk about the hotel in ski boots and especially in bedrooms. Finally, we paid extra for the Gold floor. This was great for breakfast, afternoon and evening food/snacks. However, it was evident people from other floors (not floor 9) were also accessing the lounge - really at our expense. Like pretty much every other lounge i have been to, there needs to be restricted access to this area. Finally, I don't have children and the lounge felt often like a crèche. I am not against families with kids using the lounge, but it is hardly an upmarket relaxing place when kids are running around and screaming. I blame the parents, but wonder if the lounge could be split into 2 kid friendly/adult only halves. Special shout out to all the fantastic (international) serving team and Ian (Hartley I think) on Gold reception for being the perfect host.
