The hotel Bella Costa is great! The staff is very helpful & friendly. I've been to cuba over 31 years. I keep coming back. Have been to other places but here is the best. The girls Dayagne & Haydelis are wonderful. The beach is beatiful & the coconuts delicious. The music is to die for!

Family of 4 we would recommend

Sightseer63828533337 (Grande Prairie, Canada) on Nov 13, 2024

Family of 4- 2 adults, 17 and 14 year old. Wasn’t sure what to expect because we have heard Cuba is struggling since COVID, plus the recent hurricanes (Oscar) and power outages , we were pleasantly surprised. RESORT The resort is older, but they have down the best they can for upkeep, you can see it’s older but the $$ and ability to upgrade isn’t there. It is clean and adequate. We were in the family suite, which was wonderful we had (probably) best view in whole resort of ocean, able to sleep 6 comfortably, 2.5 bathrooms, living area with couches and dinning table, large wrap around deck. Rooms were decent mattresses decent but once again just older. Our toilet didn’t flush in our onsite bathroom but they fixed it when they could, but didn’t matter with having 2 other toilets. FOOD Adequate. This had nothing to do with the resort but Cuba has shortages, we aren’t typically picky eaters and always found something to eat. We weren’t ever hungry. The pizza and pasta were great staples. The evening and all night pizza bar was wonderful BEACH/POOL 10/10 it’s only steps from the resort, clear water, white sand, lots of chairs and cabanas. Make sure to use the FREE water activities at the beach- just past the resort- sail boating (15min per day free), pedal boats and kayaks. You can also snorkel for $20 per person- it is OKAY not great - you see a lot of fish because they feed them with bread not because it’s great snorkeling place. There is one main pool that isn’t very deep- no shade at the pool until late afternoon and there was very minimal activities in the pool- we brought a small ball and played with it constantly. ENTERTAINMENT The weren’t bad but not nearly as good as we have seen at other resorts. A big part of this could be related to low season. STAFF/TIPPING Wonderful, very helpful, kind and caring. The morning coffee lounge was wonderful and a great start to the day- Ernesto had our orders memorized instantly. Bring USD to tip and do activities, we were warned that tipping is a lot and necessity. We didn’t find this (could have been because we were there in low season), the service you got for tipping or not was the same. OTHER Bring toilet paper and sanitizer if you wish to leave the resort and be prepared to pay to use bathrooms EVERYWHERE off resort (in the airport also- not in departures just arrivals). Do NOT get Cuban pesos you can do little with them and they are not able to leave Cuba (they will try to sell them to you on the tour bus from the airport). We took $200USD (only did snorkeling at resort and went to varadero 1x) and it was just enough, if you book tours you can use credit card. Other patrons said best to pay a bit extra and do private tours instead of the group ones- get more time, more personalized and not cookie cutter. If you wish to use the fitness centre to staff fit count this out this holiday the space is extremely old, not in repair and hot- similar to what I assume a jail gym is like (minus it has cable machines that were broke) BRING WITH YOU We took lots of snack food for flights and resort (worries about food) and didn’t need much- only enough for flights. Bring your own food to the airport for departure as airport is super expensive (ie. $5 usd for a can of pop, $10 usd for chips). We also brought sauces (BBQ, hot sauce, ranch, mustard etc) and didn’t need it at all. Bring YOUR OWN TRAVEL cups the drinks you get small cardboard cups that are not good bring your own refillable cups. We got the Tuesday Nov 5, day prior to anticipated Hurricane Rafael. Hotel did a wonderful job of prepping customers for the hurricane and honestly minus the part we weren’t allowed to be outside unless necessary (we had to to get to our room) and the fact we lost power for 5min prior to generators (which couldn’t run the large AC units in the rooms) you would have never known. If you have done Mexico—- CUBA nicer beaches, nicer people (more culture), more history, more economical.. MEXICO better resorts, not as nice people, pushier tipping expectations, better food, more luxurious
