Cockroach infested restaurant with undercooked food. We got SALMONELLA!

This is the first time that I am leaving a review on a hotel as I am typically not a picky person. I also understand the effects of COVID on Cuban resorts. However, I feel that others should be made aware of the unsanitary conditions at this resort and concerns that I have. My family and I got sick from SALMONELLA at this resort. Concern # 1: The chef preparing the BBQ at the beach bar had meat on the grill that was cooking and pretty much ready. He then took raw meat and put it on the grill. I was horrified to see him take the meat that was already cooked and mix it in with the newly added (and still raw) meat and then serve it to people shortly after. He also kept the raw meat on the ground in a container without any ice. Concern # 2: The main buffet does not have air conditioning and was boiling hot. The food was just sitting there in extremely high temperatures. It was seriously unbearable to eat there some days and we would leave completely drenched from being there for just 15 or so minutes. Concern # 3: Some small sausages served at the main buffet were completely raw and were mixed in with cooked sausages. Concern # 4: There is an infestation of cockroaches; they are everywhere ranging from the main lobby, lobby bar, and hotel rooms. Some were also found in the main buffet. They are very visible in the main lobby bar and were walking around on the bar counter tops. We found cockroaches in our room as well and were too afraid to take our clothes out of our suitcase for the duration of our trip. Concern # 5: There is no bottled water. The water in the main lobby that was infused with fruit/vegetables tasted weird and did not seem fresh. FOOD: They had a wide selection of food, which was okay for Cuba. I was surprised to see fish and calamari. During our stay we saw lamb, beef, chicken, and pork. It got a little repetitive throughout our 7-day stay, but I would say there was more choice in comparison to other Cuban resorts I had recently stayed at. When we just arrived, they did not have eggs for breakfast. The omelette they had served was premixed and contained more flour than eggs. ENTERTAINMENT: The entertainment was very good, especially the night shows. The circus/magic show was great. BEACH: Beautiful beach. The water was clean, clear, and warm. There were no issues finding beach chairs. PROPERTY: The resort itself is beautiful. The property is nice and clean outside. SERVICE: The service could definitely be improved. For example, many times during breakfast nobody would approach us asking if we want coffee. When we would flag someone to come over, we had the feeling that they were very annoyed by us asking.
Another Wonderful Visit

We visited this resort April 13-23rd 2024...three adults and one child. It was my husband's second time visiting and our first. We came back because of the people! Everyone is so friendly and willing to help. Our favourites are Pavel and Yosneil in the lobby cigar bar. They went above and beyond every evening to ensure that we (and everyone else) had a wonderful time. While the food options weren't as plentiful (due to regional food shortages), the beach and everything else made up for it. We were a bit disappointed that the main building's elevators were not working as it t did cause my 68yo mother to use the stairs much more often than she'd prefer. All in all, we would 100% go back again and now consider some of the staff to be friends.
