This hotel commits fraud and will downgrade you to a cheaper room

Mike P on Sep 08, 2024

Be warned: If the hotel says you've been offered a "complimentary upgrade," they may be lying, and may have simply tagged your downgrade in the system as an upgrade so they could re-sell your more expensive room. I booked a $250/night pool-view, 300 square foot room with a King Bed. When I arrived, I was told I had been given a complimentary upgrade... to a worse room ($230/night on the Marriott Bonvoy app) with two double beds facing the city. I demanded my original room, but was told it had already been given to someone else. They did ultimately give me a smaller room facing the pool with two double beds. I have opened a case against them with Marriott Bonvoy and hope to get compensation, but this should never happen. When someone books a room, it is theirs, and may not be given to someone else. Given that they told me I was receiving a "free upgrade" to a cheaper room, I suspect the hotel management is engaging in fraud, booking expensive rooms, downgrading the people who booked them, and then re-booking the more expensive rooms to make more money. If you have also had a similar experience here, please write about it and contact Marriott Bonvoy so they know what is happening.

Perfect stay for a party of 10 … minus the rude and abrasive receptionist we encountered after our 10 hour flight.

We throughly enjoyed our stay here. We enjoyed the splash bar and swam in the pool daily. I messaged and asked for higher floors for my party of 9 ( 5 rooms) and were all given floor 7 which had pool and part ocean views we couldn’t have been more happy. We found everyone super friendly except the rude receptionist we encountered after our 10 hour flight. She didn’t seem happy we wanted to pay for our rooms prior to being ready, she charged my son twice for his accommodation meaning he had no spending money possibly up for 10 days till the overcharge could be returned, he had to ring his bank get a email sent to him then give it to reception luckily he did get the double charge refunded the next day. Thankfully Lovely receptionist Erin finished my booking after encountering the nasty one.
