Please beware before booking

AWaileaWahine (Wailea, Hawaii) on Dec 13, 2024

I generally try to only review positive experiences but this was so bad I felt I owed it to my fellow travelers to warn them ... My husband and I live on Maui but every December we do a staycation to the west side. one YEAR ago we booked a 2 bedroom OCEAN FRONT villa. we arrived and our room was OCEAN VIEW, over the sunburned backs of loungers, and a pool full of loudly playing kids. we returned to the front desk where they said that they consider that ocean front. no it is not. there are 2 buildings with real ocean from rooms, tower 4 is NOT. if you book O.F. be sure to say you will refuse tower 4. anyway, they said they were sold out, tough luck, and they said that they had to save rooms for people who booked a year before. I booked exactly 1 year before but apparently that did not apply to me. My husband wanted to leave, I talked him into giving it a night. we went back to the room and called for our luggage but were told they were too busy and understaffed and it would be at least an hour. we had been there over an hour at this point. My husband went down to fetch our belongings BUT they would not allow him to use a luggage trolley so he called me to come down and we awkwardly managed to shlep or belongings to the room. Unpacking our food we found the previous guests half empty water in the fridge. I grabbed the wine glasses which were very dirty. washed them. settled in on the small deck to try to rescue the evening when a crummy band started playing in the bar that happened to be right below us! Back inside we go. the next morning I decided to wash all the dishes as 75% of them were dirty and the dishwasher flooded the kitchen! we were quite worried a curse had been placed on our heads. we mopped it up with all the bathroom towels and called. they said engineering would be right up. They were not there when we finally gave up and decided to go home (glad we could drive home and didn't have to fly!) Upon checking out the gal gave us sad face, that is it. the manager came and was also sad. I paid 2835 Marriott points for this room which works out to ~$2125 for our one night stay. I could have stayed 2 nights at the Post Ranch Inn for that! My biggest issue is their labeling of that tower as ocean front. If you pay for a first class ticked on an airplane, you do not expect to be bumped to business without reimbursement, right? saying "we call this first class, see, you can see first class from here" would not work. The Manager from Nanea called but offered no help I called Marriott vacation club and was bumped up to customer resolution: no help.

NEEDS IMPROVEMENT IN 2025

MF8952 (Minneapolis, Minnesota) on Dec 05, 2024

A few complaints about this resort seeing as how it's about $700 night! 1. Trash is not collected often enough around the property. On every floor, everyday there is excessive trash overflowing in common areas. 2. The pools are great but there is no designated kids/adults section. Kids are everywhere and are allowed to bring huge floaties in the pool clogging it up on busy days. 3. If you don't "save" a chair by the pool by 9am you won't get one. The older people hog up and save seats at 6am. They are mostly left unmonitored and need to implement a 30 min rule if items are left unattended. 4. Food is lower quality and not worth the tourist prices onsite 5. Beach loungers at $120 a day are broken and rundown. Completely unacceptable to be charging for these. 5. We got our villa cleaned once in 7 days and they didn't even leave us new towels. They just took the dirty ones away.
