Waste of Money, A nightmare, Definitely not 4 stars

Tobi A on Jan 16, 2025

The only good thing about this hotel is the staff. The workers are understaffed and working 18 hours a day and yet maintain a really good and kind attitude. They were always friendly and helpful and genuin...ely put their best foot forward. I hope the best for them. Aside from this, this hotel is a scam. Firstly, there are no ocean view rooms. I have attached a picture of the ocean view you will have paid extra for. When we checked in they assigned us a different room with a view of the pool. We informed them we paid for an ocean view room and pushed back before they agreed to change our room. We waited until 4pm for the “ocean view room”. When we got into the room, it was extremely dirty. We originally booked this hotel for 6 nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary but ended up packing our bags and leaving two days later. Our bathroom had mold, our bed frame had a suspicious stain. The couch in the room was gross. Our privacy curtain never closed fully so we never had privacy. We were locked out of our room multiple times because their key system kept malfunctioning. It’s the worst thing when you’re tired at night and just want to get to bed but you’re locked out of your bedroom and have to wait for a technician to come out. We saw other guests experience the same issue with their door so seems to be a mass issue with their key system. They pour chemicals from a suspicious plastic bottle into the pool while people are swimming. I’ve never seen a hotel do that before and I’ve stayed at so many hotels. The breakfast food was barely edible and tasted like something cooked the night before and then reheated. If you wanted to shower with hot water, it took forever for the water to run warm. Food takes a while to come out but that wasn’t a big deal for us because we were never in a rush. But if you care about fast and efficient restaurant service, this is not the place. All in all, this was not a 4 star establishment. It was barely an overpriced 3 star establishment. When we checked out, they said they could not refund our incidentals because their bank system is down and that they will refund it as soon as it comes back online. Only God knows when and if we will ever get that hold released. They said they will not refund us for the nights we did not stay but we honestly don’t care. We are just grateful we were able to leave and move into a much better hotel. My recommendation is to not to waste your money on this resort. There are much better resorts and Airbnbs in the area that are reasonably priced The location is convenient and the public beach it is near is really beautiful.

Thank you, Azura, for memories we will treasure for a lifetime.

My husband and I chose the Azura Resort in Samara, Costa Rica, for our honeymoon, and from the moment we arrived, it felt like stepping into paradise. The resort is a perfect mix of luxury and relaxation, ...making it an ideal home base to explore the beauty of Costa Rica. While some reviews mentioned slow food service, we’d encourage those guests to embrace “Pura Vida” – the Costa Rican way of life. Taking a moment to savor the breathtaking ocean views and the warm atmosphere; if you want fast food, may we recommend McDonald? The Azura offers an entirely different, much-needed pace that helped us treasure every single moment. The true highlight of our stay was the exceptional staff who made our honeymoon unforgettable. Each team member went above and beyond to ensure we felt special: -We have to start with Roxanna, who truly made our trip. Her warmth and genuine kindness set the tone for our entire stay. She greeted us each day with the brightest smile and an unmatched attentiveness that made us feel like the most important guests at the resort. She has an extraordinary gift for hospitality and creates connections that go beyond service, making us feel like family. We owe so much of our magical experience to her. -Jonathon was a gem, always ready with friendly waves and spot-on food recommendations that elevated our dining experiences. -Alejandro is the epitome of cool. Not only did he make us the best cocktails we’ve ever had, but he also tipped us off to a nearby spot where we saw wild monkeys—an unforgettable adventure. -We had so much fun at the bar with Jazmine, whose fun personality kept us laughing and enjoying some delightful local guaro. -Brenda and Hanisey were absolute sweethearts. Serving coffee each morning, they were patient as we practiced Spanish phrases with them and they brightened our mornings. -Axel and Danny were attentive and speedy waitstaff, ensuring our meals were served with care and a smile. -Lux and Wendy, the excursion planners, were incredible. Thanks to their expertise, we had two unforgettable adventures: the Sealife Tour, where we were lucky enough to see three whales and over 100 dolphins (your results may vary!), and the Adrenaline Tour, complete with zip-lining, hot springs, horseback riding, and tubing. -Finally, Roberto, our driver, doubled as an amazing tour guide. He pointed out creatures and sights we’d never have noticed and was a joy to travel with. We’ll miss him dearly. The Azura Resort in Costa Rica isn’t just a place to stay—it’s an experience. Between the stunning accommodations, delicious food, and remarkable staff, we couldn’t have asked for a better honeymoon.

Luxurious stay!

Gina S (Ottawa, Canada) on Jan 11, 2025

We just finished a week at the Azura Hotel in the beautiful Samara, Costa Rica! The hotel was clean and the staff were extremely friendly and they work really hard! After speaking with some of them, they l...ove their jobs, so they are determined to make your stay the best one yet. The hotel is quiet, with everything, including the bar shutting down at 10PM. We never had an issue finding beach chairs, chairs by the pool or making reservations for dinner. This is not one of those resorts where you have to get up at 6AM to fight for a beach chair. Even during the day, I often had the pool alone to myself! There is also someone who takes drink orders from the beach starting around noon. Breakfast is a buffet (Choras) with freshly squeezed local juices. Lunch is either at the buffet or at the Chill & Grill, which is a sit down restaurant by the bar. Dinners are all at one of their three restaurants: Chill & Grill, Baccados or Tao. Chill & Grill becomes a steakhouse at night and offers a wide range of burgers, steak and seafood which were cooked to perfection every single time! We went here most of our nights during the week because the chef, Joshua, knows exactly what he is doing behind the grill. Baccados is an Italian restaurant where they have their own take on popular dishes, like the chicken parm that I had. It was delish! Tao is a Japanese restaurant that offers typical Japanese and Chinese dishes, but they add their own Costa Rican flavour to them. This restaurant was also really delicious to eat at. I've read on here that people were complaining that meal service took a long time, but we didn't find it like that. While the meal service took longer than going to your average North American restaurant, all the food came out hot and well seasoned. Have a drink or two and relax while waiting for your meal. I have to give a huge shout out to Jonathan and Axel who were our main two servers for all of our lunches and dinners during our stay. They are extremely professional, kind, and truly want to make your experience great. These two are often seen running around during their 12 hour shifts ensuring that all guests are happy, so please ensure that you tip them well! We particularly bonded with Jonathan and we will miss him! The hotel has 2 bars - one as a swim-up that has walk-up option at the pool and one at the Chill & Grill. The bartenders were very good at what they do and they loved going off menu to make specialty cocktails that they would highly recommend. The cocktails on the menu too were extremely delicious and they can make any of them virgin as well. I highly suggest to try the Mix Berry (frozen) or the Pura Vida. I've also read on here that drink service was slow and some were complaining about it. We do not have any complaints about it because there was 1 bartender per bar and they put a lot of love into their concoctions. We got to know Alejandro a little bit and he really loves what he does, so be patient and let him work his magic. There isn't typical entertainment as in the Caribbean, but they do have a guitar player or a saxophone player during dinner service at the Chill & Grill every single night. They were very talented and it made for a wonderful atmosphere! Once your night is done, you will find a little baggy of chocolate hanging from your door as an extra special touch from the resort staff. The concierge, who were extremely nice (Wendy & Luz) are who you text via WhatsApp should you need anything from extra towels to making dinner reservations. They go above and beyond in their jobs and when they don't hear from you for dinner reservations in the morning, they will reach out to you to let you know what spots are still open as a little reminder. TIPS: -This resort is about 2.5 hours from the Liberia airport, so ensure that you book airport transfers because taking a taxi this far would be expensive -All Costa Rican beaches are public, but there were no people trying to sell various merch to you. We were left alone in peace. -This beach does not have white sand, as the tide comes right up to the grass at night, but it sure is beautiful with stunning views of Isla Chora! -Download WhatsApp before you leave because this is how the hotel, the airport transfers, taxis and the locals communicate with you -The Concierge Azura is 1-506-8959-4747 on WhatsApp -There is a water dispenser in your room, which we mistook for a coffee machine, but the water in it is safe to drink -This is a tip that we only found out about on our last day, so it helps to chat with other guests! I won't be safeguarding this: there are howler monkeys in the forest near the resort. On our very last day, we went for a walk and we had a private encounter with about 15 howler monkeys, which was an incredible experience. They are usually found in the trees in the Mora Camp Ground. To get there, walk down the beach to the left of the resort. About halfway down, you will see a rocky road on your left - walk down it and you will reach a fork, go left. This will take you past the Hideaway Hotel and onto the main road. (Note that there were a couple of monkeys in the trees around the Hideaway hotel, but there were too far to see). When you get to the main road, turn right and walk down the road until you get to "Camping Mora" on your left hand side (it's just past the curved hill). You should get there between 7-8AM to see the monkeys. -If you keep walking past the campground another 10 minutes, you will get to Carillo beach, which is a gorgeous beach with white sand and lots of palm trees. I didn't realize how close we were to Carillo, so it pays off when you venture out to explore! Would highly recommend staying at the Azura Hotel! Pura Vida!
